    He’s a typical, down to earth Yorkshire lad.

      Kind of crazy Sheffield has two major winners since the start of 2016.

  • @golfinguru11
    @golfinguru11 2 года назад +80

    What a humble kid. Makes it easy to root for him, even as an American. Hard work pays off!!

    • @luckyspurs

      What's American golf fans' view of Scheffler and Zalatoris, personality wise.

    • @golfinguru11
      @golfinguru11 2 года назад +5

      @@luckyspurs I won’t speak for all Americans but from what I can tell Scheffler is very boring in personality and style of play. He doesn’t seem too bright either (rarely says anything insightful, a bit like DJ). Zalatoris on the other hand is already a fan favorite because he’s been so close to winning and has some relatable quirks (especially the putting)

    • @trlprk
      @trlprk 2 года назад +1

      Agreed, I was rooting for him to win the whole way

    • @chaseturknett
      @chaseturknett 2 года назад +2

      Right? I feel like he’s been in good form for the past few years but he just couldn’t close until yesterday!

    • @markharris5107
      @markharris5107 2 года назад +7

      @@luckyspurs Scheffler is a quality young man, and has the temperament for sustained excellence. He may not give as many great interviews as other players, but you also don't get the bad drama that sometimes hurts the image of players like Rahm. But people root for players for very different reasons, which tells us as much about the fan as it does about the golfer. Some wonder how anybody can root for Tiger after he turned out to be a massive cheater. Others are all about the talent and don't care about the personality or the character. Some jump on bandwagons since they always want to back a winner (and they jump off just as quickly). Others root for the underdog (and this year's US Open gave us plenty of those). I think that Scheffler and Zalatoris will be mainstays on the tour for a long time, and they will both be appreciated.

    Absolute class act. Seems a lovely lad. One of the hardest workers around by all accounts and to hit 17 GIR is a sign of a top top class player. Impeccable performance. One loose tee short down 18 and then a worldy shot out of that bunker. Great for Billy too. Could be the first of a few.

  • @bullwinklemoose8291
    @bullwinklemoose8291 2 года назад +52

    Not sure why I started rooting for him so hard as the round went on because I was all in for Rory and Scotty. He just played so solidly and I loved his toughness. Then when he hit that shot on 18 I was just WOW what a huge moment in golf history. I actually starting crying tears of joy with him as he celebrated with his family in those precious moments on 18 after he'd sealed the deal. What an incredible performance by Matt. So happy for him and his family.

    It’s great how Matt has improved since becoming a professional. When he won the US Amateur in 2013, he was a thin, wiry young man who looked like a primary school kid. He’s got everything he needs to be at the top for a long time, and it looks good for him winning more majors.
    Go Matt, The Open is coming up!
    So happy for Billy Foster, he totally deserves the honour of being a Major winning Caddie.
    I also believe that Will Zalatoris is the real deal, and he will surely win Majors and many other tournaments. He has now finished as the runner up in the US Masters, US PGA Championship and US Open!

    • @asdknjakljye

    The play out of the bunker on 18 was quite outstanding; when you consider what was on the line and needing a par, so there were a couple of big shots that sealed the deal. It probably should have come down to a playoff but you have to putt your nutt, and Fitzzy kept the pedal down; which is nice.
