    Great video man! I just got myself a 2019 Si. I made a mistake crossing over to the euro side. Traded my two year mini cooper 2008 s clubman, turbocharged 1.6L. Unreliable cars, break down all the time. It was a fun ride, and I modified it to stage 2, but nothing compares to the Honda Si! Honda owner since 2000. Best ever!

    I own a 2018 red si sedan these r my fav 5
    1. Torque, I love the early torque, also own a 2014 red si sedan, and my 2018 picks up alot faster
    2. Interior space, these new civics r fkin huge inside, keep in mind I have a 2014 si and my new one is wayy more roomier.
    3. Mpg, I've topped off at 42mpg on a 4 hr trip cruising and hyper mileaging as much as I can. FKIN sick!
    4. Steering wheel feel/sport mode feel, these new civics, the steering wheel you feel more planted to the road, just better feel when driving.
    5. Muffler, I'm in the IT field, and it looks like a frickin HDMI port lol

    I've been in the market for a 2018 Honda Civic si and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner's manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular? Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor that changes the ignition timing caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine while still saving money.

But than again it's a Honda 👍🏻😉

    You forgot the bonus #6. The hidden Honda image under the center console... unless you didn't know... :)
    Open your middle console, there will be a rubber-ish bottom. At the front and back of this padding, are two tabs. Pull either up, as this will pull the padding up. Look under the padding for a lil easter-egg given only to Civic SI's (that I know of).
    I showed it to my dealer the day I bought mine 2 weeks ago, blew him away. :)

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +2

      0ktane haha oh yeah! Should have showed that! It’s actually in all 10th gen civics (Si or not) my girl has an EX model and she has it as well, ours are different though. I’ll make a video to show it one day! Thanks for the reminder! Funny how sometimes the dealer doesn’t even know about it.

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  5 лет назад +3

      Aaron Nava Compared to all the cars I’ve owned, I’ve enjoyed the Si the most. It has been the most fun car and most invested. I’ve owned a 2004 Lexus IS300 and a 2014 Lexus IS350 F Sport with a full package, have no regrets with moving over to the Si till this day. If you kept up with my RUclips or Instagram (@phong.vlg) you will see I’ve invested quite a bit in the Si. I did blow the engine in February , due to the excessive amount of power I was pushing on the stock block, but I’ve recently have gotten the engine rebuilt with forged internals being able to handle the power I will be pushing out of it (Goal is 500hp). Aside all the performance, stock for stock it’s still one of the most enjoyable and reliable cars I’ve ever owned. I haven’t met a 10th gen owner who’s hated their choice yet. 😁

      About to start upgrades on mine, needing to know, how much whp did you put in before blowing the block? I am planning on intake, intercooler, exhaust, rear motor mount and then a tune to 280 Whp. Am I going to blow my block?

I and I told him straight up I’ll be here to get my car on Tuesday so you HAVE to have it ready. I’ve used him in the past and never ever had a problem. Normally I wouldn’t care but I have like 2k in parts just sitting in my garage haha. My ktuner is also taking a while to get here I know people who ordered it after me that already got shipping info. I ordered it thru VitViper on March 1st..Ktuner is responsible for the delay but wtf man you should be able to box and ship most of them on back order in a day. This year so far has been shitty for me seems like nothing is going my way...it came out to 8.3k to fix including 2 wheels on passenger side. It is a tuff time here in RI for auto body places cause people drive like shit in the winter and fuck there cars up haha. I’m looking at getting the 2018 civic si sedan really soon but I’m worried about the only 205HP. Is there a way to get more power out of it? That’s the only thing that’s stopping me. I’d buy it right up if it was at least like 250HP

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +3

      WolfovOdin of course there is, with simple modifications you can easily reach 250hp, there is a product called ktuner or one called hondata which is an ECU tune that can bump the amount of boost, torque, and hp. Big difference from that. There are also more modifications you can add down the road reaching upwards of 300+ hp. This engine is very tunable, and more products are being released for this car. I.E: Bigger turbos.

    • @wolfovodin7193
      @wolfovodin7193 6 лет назад +1

      I see. I’ve heard about hondata but I also heard that you need to upgrade heads and possibly get a new clutch for it to be safe, not sure how true that is

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +2

      WolfovOdin I recommend ktuner usually because I feel it’s safer and has more features. But you wouldn’t need to upgrade your headers, just have to upgrade your clutch eventually because of the torque increase. Our stock clutches will only handle for a while before slipping. So far clutchmasters is one of the companies that make clutches for our cars right now.

    • @PhongVLG

      StatiicMods Stock for stock the IS350, Where the build is at now... the Civic Si. More aftermarket options to build the Civic with it being already turbo’d + cost less to mod and it’s a lighter car.

    I have a 1997 5 speed lude with practically all new mechanical parts. Is it worth getting this 2018 civic si sedan or the 2012 and below?

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +2

      J. R. Well in my opinion, if your looking for reliability newer is better, with you be the first owner your assured no problems from previous.. also warranties. Start off with fresh miles too. But if your asking which is better? That’s opinionated, I obviously love my 10th gen. For what it’s worth, I feel you get a lot included in it; in terms of bells and whistles. Apple car-play, dual climate, heated seats, 7” display, etc. My opinion on the performance is that I’m very impressed, I came from owning 2 Lexus; my last one being a 2014 IS350 F Sport. Overall I love the Si the most, it’s just that much more fun, gas saver, and handles better, and plenty mod opportunities with it being turbocharged. This new model civic completely changed my idea of civics, I’m all for getting a 2018. But again its preference in the end. In conclusion, I feel there’s no going wrong if you choose a 10th gen. I believe it’s worth it. 👍🏼 Hope my opinion helps 😁

    • @jrlude_
      @jrlude_ 6 лет назад +1

      PhongVLG ok thanks for the info. I just swapped my motor in the lude and now I wanna baby it. I want another daily driver and I've been so torn in 2016 action TC, 8th gen civic si. Or these newer 2018s. I just want good passenger space, good trunk space, good functionality.
      How much did you get this out the door all fees included?

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +2

      J. R. Well it seems you want something to daily, that has a bunch of room, and that you want to keep stock. That’s what the 10th gen is out of the box, it’s plenty fast stock. Faster than an 8th, 9th, or TC out the box. It’s a great gas saver like I said earlier, and handles amazingly, has tons of space (much larger than previous gens) and comfortable. It is defiantly reliable, it’s a Honda lol. I was able to walk out the door for $24K (not saying everyone will be able to get my price). Only issue with the car I feel you might have, is wanting to mod it too 🤣 It’s crazy what a simple ECU tune can do, increasing the torque by 70 and the hp by 40. But in all honesty, go test drive one (sedan for the most space), and get a feel for it. Only way you’ll know is by driving one. I feel the 10th gen is slept on a bit, only a person who’s actually checked one out and driving one will know it’s capabilities.

    My 2016 Mazda 3 has the same bucket seats just without the SI and I have the same leather wrapped shifter. I also have a very intuitive infotainment system that lets me put in backgrounds as well. I was all set to buy a 2017 Honda Civic SI except the dealers were smoking crack because they had the nerve to ask for 30 plus grand. All total they were asking for 37 grand with tax license and warranty. The mazda dealership had a touring on the lot with all the extra options except leather seats (which I did not want) and a 9 speaker Bose system. with the 4500 rebate I paid about 19 grand. The 3 also is a more visceral driving experience. Even though the SI could handle it just felt like a numb driving experience. The SI is a good car and had it not been for the $5000 mark up for it being a stick plus everything else I would have happily bought it. As it stands I got the same amount of car if not more for about 10 grand less. You do have me beat on trunk space though.
    If you ever get a chance go test drive a Mazda 3 or 6 and tell me what you think

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +1

      William Jones Interesting, what state are you from that they marked it up so high? Usually it’s the Type R’s with the mark up. & I’ll check out a Mazda 3 when I can, but in the end the Si is an Si, different engine, transmission, etc. My top 5 are just things I wanted to point out that aren’t performance oriented.

    • @williamjones3534
      @williamjones3534 6 лет назад

      No worries man. Like I said I would have bought one had it not been for the drastic mark up. I live in CA. At the time when I shopping for a car it was June and the 2017 SI just dropped. Dealers charged a 5000 premium for stick(among other things) and suckers opened their wallets. They also marked up the sport as well. I would say there were mark ups across the board with dealers at the time asking for 60 grand for the type R. The experience left me very salty to say the least. It left me with the impression that Hondas were over hyped.
      I've owned Honda civics in the past and with the exception of transmission issues I've enjoyed and had very little issues with the car. I still have my 2003 civic EX. I guess my point was that I was glad the dealers lost their mind when they did because it allowed me to be more open minded to something comparable. I have pretty much the same luxuries you have in the SI. Well some things you have I don't like Apple Car play and somethings the Mazda has that the SI doesn't, like a Bose system. When you get around to test driving a Mazda (I would recommend a stick) let know how it compares to your SI.

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +1

      William Jones I feel you, it is nice to be open to different things. This is my first Honda, I’ve owned 2 Lexus prior. But yeah I’m the end very impressed by the luxurious things that this Honda has + it’s handle & power capabilities. I’m more of a built over bought guy, so the bose system isn’t much for me. Since in the end my car will be completely different than the car I bought at the dealer, but still I’ll take the time when I can to check out a manual Mazda 3 to get a feel stock for stock compared to the Si. Pretty sure I’ll have the same feeling to the Si, coming from your own review.

    Nice car! I do not like the volume touch screen and rev hang...also I dont like when non Type R Civics have the red honda logo on them..sorry but that's lame..otherwise a nice car. Glad you enjoy it.

    • @PhongVLG
      @PhongVLG  6 лет назад +4

      buildmorefarms100 Thank You & Yeah, I totally agree on not having a volume knob instead! The rev hang can be compete eliminated from the ktuner & for the Type R badge, I felt the same way.. But I ended up doing it because it matched better on the car rather than the plain silver logo. Don’t look at the badge at being just a Type R thing, but an aesthetic change. Not everyone is representing it as a Type R Badge, just a red Badge instead.
