I was a young , new, sole parent trying to come to terms with my situation when I first heard Victoria de los Angeles over the radio.. I was completely mesmerised by the angelic quality of her voice A tranquility came over me, tears ran down my face .I was transported . I have never forgotten that moment . And so began my love for Victoria's voice, my gratitude for that moment in time and now this posting which I can save and listen to, whenever I need her medicine....thank you🌷
What a wonderful woman!! Her singing is as exquisite as full of beauty, it is not possible not to be deeply moved by her voice. Truly an exceptional singer of all times. Always admired, always beloved. We miss you Victoria... Thank you for posting this recital.
The perfection of belle canto with a formidable technique. The prove is that her voice still sounded yuoung, rglardles of her age.
I had the pleasure of seeing her perform at Massey Hall in Toronto back in 1961. I actually got her to autograph my programme. Her signature was as unique and beautiful as her voice. I also had the pleasure of seeing Giuseppe Di Stefano that year at the same venue. Lucky me!
My favorite soprano. Her exquisite voice and impeccable technique was able to bring to life many operatic roles in the French, Italian and German repertoires. She was (and is) second to none in her command of song literature in many languages. I was very fortunate to have heard her many times on stage (in recital). An unforgettable sound. Bravissima, sempre bravissima!
My favorite artist! What an artist, what a frasing! You don't need to know the language she is singing, just the way she does it and one understand what is all about!
Sublime, excepcional, exquisita. Gracias Victoria, gracias por tu legado.
I saw her perform here with the Vancouver Symphony. She sang Purcell's 'When I am laid in earth', and Beethoven's 'Ah perfido'. The next afternoon Gerald Moore did a lecture/recital and she and her husband were sitting a few rows ahead of me. Afterwards I went backstage to get Moore's autograph. She was in the lineup and when Moore spotted her he let out a very loud 'Vicky!'
Artista eccezionale!
@danielcabreraloa5191 YES! The Mompou Cantar del alma! Here she is at 65 singing UNACCOMANPANIED between piano interludes AND DOESN’T STRAY EVEN SLIGHTLY FROM THE DEAD CENTER PITCH. This is a masterpiece of singing for sure. The entire recital is miraculous. I wish “El mariner” went on for 50 verses!
@@danielcabreraloa5191 I figured that much, but I'd still like to find the date! I fell in love with her voice in 1963, when I first heard her on an Angel recording (how apt!) of the Poulenc Gloria. I suppose if we date her debut to a 1944 performance of the Marriage of Figaro, as the Countess, this would have to be in 1994.✨🌹 Well, I was wrong! The tape was dated 1989!🤭

I only consider that capable to very few other singers, if I were to select I would pick Kathleen Battle and Ian BOSTRIDGE, and Emma Kirkby

Victoria de Los Angeles is such a wonderful soprano. I'm disappointed that her pianist here plays so crudely.
