  • Following a Concert in 1986,Victoria de los Angeles is interviewed by a French speaking journalist.

    " My proper name is Victoria de los Angeles.
    As a small child at home, I sang Spanish songs my mother knew and sang as she worked as a cleaner at the University of Barcelona.
    Sang Schubert's Heidenroslein when 7 years of age
    At school exposed to a lot of Schubert and Wagner----was really emotionally moved by this music
    I did well in the exams at the Conservatory----that is how I found myself in this career
    But I was never interested in fame or being a celebrity,and I still feel that way
    Speaks about her Barcelona opera debut in 1945 as the Countess in the Marriage of Figaro
    I have put a lot of dedication and devotion into my career----it is one of the most beautiful careers in the world.
    Major roles at the Met--Yes the 1950s were wonderful. I cherish my memories of the Met as it existed then. Some great singers.
    I loved playing Mimi in La Boheme and Butterfly-----I could relate to them a lot.
    Manon a great success
    Wagner---Die Meistersinger, Lohengrin and Tannhauser
    Bayreuth Festival---an unforgettable experience
    " I was a student the first time I heard a recording of Ninon Vallin singing Melisande-----I think it is one of the most beautiful operas in the world. "

    Victoria de los Angeles,born Barcelona in 1923 and died in Barcelona in 2005.
    Married and had two sons.

    I know & adore this interview. Even her speaking voice is remarkable, tho when we spoke in person it seemed abit high, whilst her singing voice was situated between the high & mezzo soprano tessituras.
    An adorable human being! My favourite singer in the world!

      +lochness11 No, i was unaware of these being posted. I doubt La Fundació VdlA doesn't know of them, however. I will send both links to its President in any case.
      I was already amazed by what YOU uncovered, whilst i'd found some interesting videos of her from TVE when she was in her 50s that i passed on to La Fundació the existence of which they were aware, i believe.
      The interview you sent me is in Catalan but i can understand most of it. I haven't seen all of it yet.

      Soy hijo del tenor Carlo del Monte con quién Victoria de los Angeles grabó dos Óperas: Gianni Schicchi y la Traviata con la Orquesta del teatro de Roma.
      Has de saber que el esposo de Victoria, quién fue su representante y llevaba sus finanzas, huyó con el dinero ahorrado y la dejó prácticamente en quiebra.

      Yes Raul. Victoria definitely was a very special singer and person. Sadly missed to many people worldwide.

      Victoria cantaba como era: pura, luminosa, mirada fija en lo Alto. Victoria sang as she was: pure, light-filled, eyes looking to the Highs.
