I too was excited to talk of Ukyo! While the samurai are no doubt cool, Ukyo is a great villain and also a good testament to the writer's skill, as he is an anime original character who feels completely natural, letting the anime creators add their own flare to the source material.
That's an excellent point! I never quite realized that's why Ukyo works so well in a story about selfless samurai, and how this makes for great interactions, motivations, and contradictions. One side shows how people can raise to the challenge even in the worst of times (the samurai) and the other shows how low people can sink even in the best of times (Ukyo). While I do Love the source material, I must say I also Love this adaptations additions, like Ukyo and how he really helps expand the examination of the human condition.
I appreciate your work. Your breakdowns are always thoughtful and thorough. A real pleasure.
Thanks! I take joy in making these little rambling video essays
Wish you great success

It’s never not interesting to see a story about the human condition, have its antagonist be someone devoid of their humanity.
