I haven’t played the original, so I’d be willing to pay 60 bucks as long as I know I’m getting 60 bucks worth of content out of it. Obviously, 60 bucks as a standard for games as a whole is not great for the industry, but that’s off topic and something I could ramble about for months, so I won’t.

      It's more so people are taking what they can get, and the fact Nintendo is being merciful by keeping their standard $60, when Microsoft and Sony already moved onto having $70 as their standard.
      Also it practically is an overhaul. It's built from the ground up, very updated graphics, and new gameplay features and content as Nintendo has confirmed on Mar10 Day. Of course, that stuff we'll just have to wait and see. But at least this means we can get TTYD for $60 than frekin $385 (not joking).

    The average Joe, or normies won't even know that this is a remake. They'll just buy it because their kid loved Paper Mario: The Origami King. Or something like that. We, as Nintendo fans, know it's a remake, but even then it's not advertised as that anywhere on the title or box art. It doesn't say remake, remaster, HD, etc anywhere on the front of the package. So I wouldn't worry too much. It'll probably sell well.
    Also, I think it'll probably sell better now that the Switch 2 was probably delayed to 2025. It actually has breathing room, and won't be competing for whatever shiny new Switch 2 titles are on the horizon.

    I'm not a fan of remakes being seen as replacements for their original counterparts. But with Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, that is very much the case. Even if in my opinion, the gamecube's lineup aged like wine, it's still dated compared to what we have now. If anything I want games to meet down the middle, like with the Xbox One and PS3/PS4. Graphically speaking. Content, do whatever you want.

    If TTYD wasn’t a remake of the best game in a franchise that hasn’t seen a decent game in 17 years, maybe I would complain, but people paid $60 for Color Splash and Origami King and those games are objectively flawed in respect to their combat. I mean, I think comparing view counts for the trailers is… a terrible metric to judge how any two games are being received by fans. Like, your video isn’t inferior to someone else talking about TTYD just because they have more views, right? Besides the fact Origami King JUST had the trailer dropped out of the blue because of 2020 being, you know, 2020. And has around 6 million views after 3 years.
    TTYD’s stand-alone trailer has nearly 2 million views in 6 months, a fraction of that time. But that’s the key thing, the stand-alone trailer has near 2 mil, but the September 2023 Direct it was revealed in has 4.5 million views. But again, doubling back, view counts don’t mean popularity, they just mean… this many people watched a thing.
    As for the price, they could have the game as a straight port, no changes period, and I’d personally pay the 60 for this. Partly because it’s one of my favorite games ever and partly because it’s portable now. But it also looks amazing, and even if there’s no added features, just having an all time favorite AND I can play it on the go? 60 is MORE than justifiable, in my opinion.
    But another thing, and this really applied to a lot of the Wii U ports that were full price- people need to stop thinking of these games’ price tags solely from the perspective of double dipping. Yeah, it may suck for you to buy DKC Tropical Freeze at full price again, but the Wii U was a flop, and the games on Wii U were being given a new lease on life to the Switch’s vastly greater install base. So many people are buying these games for the first time, so charging full price is fair enough.
    The frustration is valid, I won’t deny that. I’ve let games wait a time or two because they were just ports and I definitely didn’t need them over other games I wanted. But we gotta look at all the people a game being re-released is marketed at.
    And that’s just Wii U ports. TTYD being 60 is not an issue for me since this is a stunningly gorgeous remake of a game you need to pay an arm and a leg to get USED for hardware you might also need to buy used to play. I won’t say the price tag is 100 percent a good thing and that nobody should complain… but like, it’s the best option available since it’s being made accessible to so many people.
    Now, do I have concerns this could be a 1 time thing? Yeah, I won’t lie, if it bombs in sales (which I doubt highly, given how beloved the game is) or just is Nintendo throwing us a bone and they just want to continue down the path Sticker Star started? This might be a 1 time thing. But I’m gonna stay optimistic this is their way of saying “Paper Mario is back.”
    Can’t go through life assuming the worst.

  • @sealink129
    @sealink129 5 месяцев назад

    To be honest, I’m completely willing to pay that. While the story, gameplay, and character assets aren’t original, they’ve remade the game almost completely. The graphics and soundtrack have been revamped, the character sprites have new animations, and there have been several other things that show that they’re wanting to improve the original game, however minor the change (such as background locations having lit up windows and doors to show that you can enter). That’s more than most of Nintendo’s “remastered/remade” titles get. That’s not even taking into consideration that the original GameCube version is upwards of $75-100 rn, and before this was announced, was much closer to $150-200 depending on condition.

    Hey in relation to the eventual chance of a Super Paper Mario Remake, the 2D Bowser section in TTYD is apparently the predecessor to SPM, so it'd make sense to remake TTYD before SPM.
    But man am I excited to actually play TTYD, i grew up in the Wii era so i missed out on having access to Gamecube games when i even had the chance (because I'd rather have Wii games lol) and currently got a WiiU so no Gamecube stuff. So not only do i get to try out TTYD and form an opinion on it (i like having opinions, and also am very curious about it. How many more ways can i say im curious? Im pondering my interest on TTYD right now) and geg to see the origin of my favorite Paper Mario game.
