I think you're right about people who rely on triggers (even though I'm one of them!). I'm definitely going to see about analyzing my matches more, I have a friend coming over later to practice. I called him because of this video!
Best advise I can give is study your clan/deck, study other clans/decks. Vanguard has 2 concepts attack and defend. Attacks are associated with rush, power and pressure. Defense can be associated with guarding and how to handle rushes. You wanna learn how your deck functions on these 2 concepts. How they attack whether it's powerful attacks pressure or rush game. How well do you generate hand advantage to guard and how well your deck can responds to rush and opponents attacks. Know your enemy's skills so you know how to counter them I.e Tachikaze uses rush. They swing for 11k-15k solo with multi attacks. So to stop their rush its best to take an early damage in hopes of the trigger which will stop their rush game.

I haven't actually gone to a locals but if I did I would really like to top. I got my friend into the game, he is using the Kagero Legend deck and before I was able to beat him easily but once he started learning the deck he improved a bit in our next match beating me 2 n' 0, so now I'm wondering what am I doing wrong
Shadow Paladins are a great clan. Really strong. The Ren legend deck had some good cards but on its own it's a bit dated. There is some great Diablo support in G-BT06. Adding the new support to your deck will help improve its effectiveness. The G zone has been increased to 16 cards and G guardians have also been released so add them and fill up your G zone.

As for Royal units you can look into Seekers (my favorite and arguably the best) jewel knights and the new Alfred support units. Some viable boss units are Seeker Thing Saver Dragon, Sanctuary Guard Dragon, Alfred Exiv, Altmile. There's more but you can start there. Also know if you wanna play competitive or for fun.
Yeah this is nice and all but really tge one way to get better is buy tge vest cards for your deck and memorize combos. Vanguard really only cares if you play your combos correctly and draw the right cards. Yes practicing and understanding the meta is important but most clans are just going to want to play how they play often just due to how the game doesn't offer many complex interactions between players
My first round ever at Regionals, a Nova Grappler player attacked with a 21k so I dropped 15k shield then he goes "oh, sorry, it's 26k actually". I told him I wouldnt have guarded then if that was the case, and all he did was say "yeah sorry". I stared at him and almost called a judge, but decided to ignore it.
I know I try and believe me Im playing to what I think is hardest deck. my neo nectar bloom. Im always looking for ways to find combos with so many skills I miss some sometimes lol. but I still want to practice until I fully concur the deck.

Make sure your deck has a clear winning image and remember Vanguard is all about attack and defend, so knowing which decks to guard early against or not makes all the difference. Ahsha's stride turns isnt that scary when your sitting at 1-2 damage right?

No, I didn't. He was able to break my hand down far enough to where I couldn't maintain a proper field. I was using Battle Sisters.
