Kagurabachi is a prime example of the fact that you don't need to reinvent the wheel, many of those tropes exist for a reason, because they work, not everything needs to be a super complex deconstruction of tropes and methods of storytelling that have been consistently effective tools for centuries, the majority of the time, keeping it simple is more effective than overcomplicating things...
A lot of what makes Kagura Bachi work for me is the characters. I mean, to a certain degree, a lot of the side characters are not that interesting. But to me, Chihiro is such a compelling and likeable protagonist that he makes other characters more fun by interacting with them. The first chapter really doesn’t do him justice, I think. He’s not a saint like Tanjiro, but he’s also not a total edgelord. He’s… logical. His father mentions it in one of his flashbacks. He’s really not the type of guy to stay on the revenge path. The fact that he continuously watches these gangs doing horrible things, using his scar as a daily reminder not only of his father’s death but of all the pain and suffering still being caused by sorcerers, it really seems like he’s genuinely at risk of abandoning this quest to go and live a normal life the second he stops trying to remind himself why he does it. He’s developed these strategies to trick his own brain into staying in the game because he knows that dealing with the swords is so important. That’s what makes the side characters so good, to me. The fact that Chihiro has friends. His quest for revenge and justice haven’t driven him into isolation. He needs the support of these people now more than ever, to be there for him when he needs it and to be proud of him for how much he’s already accomplished. He wouldn’t have the strength to keep fighting if he were actually at rock bottom. And I think Char’s healing power is sort of the embodiment of that: he’s so worn down from the spiritual and physical toll of so many consecutive battles that he’s only able to fight Sojo because of other people paying back his kindness.
... Na. ... This story isn't Pre mature. It's not even a developing baby yet. Not a fetus, not even a zygote. At best it's a Gamete, a sperm cell or the egg. There has been borderline zero development. Missing hand, main cast, magic swords, main bad guy. That's it
They might actually do a pretty decent job. It’s pretty much just sword fighting and light magical effects, most of which can be done practically without the use of too much cgi
It never occurred to me to think of Chihiro's dad as an Oppenheimer like figure but you're absolutely right. They're WMD's and we have no idea how many lives those blades have ended.
I’ve been reading since it first came out, ( as with sakamoto days and so on ) I’ve never been more excited to learn about how the power systems and etc works! Can’t wait for the next one
No other manga started as this, no other, only kagurabachi. Kagurabachi the best one, the most popular, amazing, enough time has passed, peak joy man! :D
I think a lot of Kagurabachi’s success is that the it hits a dark enough tone to be more mature (Char’s whole deal, serious discussion of what it means to make and use weapons, etc) while still being light enough to do silly goofy shonen stuff, and, because of that contrast, it doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard
Dark topics with no humor breaks would just break people. Even Berserk has time for Guts to breathe once in a while, so it feels like they're truly human
Kagurabachi is simply Mastering the Art of Simplicty in Storytelling with Masterful Eccecution in Art, Style, Pacing, Characterazation, Writting, and more in a Familiar yet Effective, New, and Fufilling. We need more of this!

Organization of mages… special forces / teams at that… unique element swords… decent story pacing... if u let ur imagination use the info U're given it all connects like how u read ANY BOOK...WTF how can u not like this???
I’ve started so many new mangas and I haven’t seen one hit its stride this quickly. Only took like 15 chapters for this series to feel refined and fleshed out. Looking forward to the future of this
The author LOVES Batman, and inspired by Tarantino and John Wick. You can immediately see the inspirations instantly if you read this manga, also he's pretty good for a newcomer in his panel composition and fluidity, my God, I can see the movements in his drawings, it is very amazing as an action manga. This is the proof that you don't need gimmicks or even booba in creating a great manga (relatively speaking by the author's very limited experience) and be very enjoyable. Solid 8/10 for me.
I love Kagurabachi. It’s fairly formulaic for a shōnen but in a good way! It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel. It gives us our favourite shōnen tropes in great characters, interesting world-building, and a compelling plot. Also I ♥️ Char so much!!!
Actually, what’s even more interesting is why Char was kidnapped and repeatedly butchered by Sojo: the idea that her cells could be used to recreate another enchanted blade. So there’s another subtle plot line of the “arms race” that happens when a powerful weapon is made and used, which ties to the paradox of the blacksmith’s legacy.
Kagurabachi is amazing. Chihiro is a great protagonist. The side characters are great. It has a very dark tone to it. Detective/mafia/supernatural storyline is just so good.
Imma say this now since it's early enough to disprove it later on. Enten will unlock a fourth ability that embodys what chihiro's father wanted to ensure his son does. Bring out understanding whether as an illusion, or sharing his spirit energy to the enemies hoping to end a war peacefully and no not like indoctrination or infinite tsukiomi. More like izanami.
I also assume that he will need to reforge enten either unlocking the fourth ability I mentioned or unlocking entens true potential well beyond his father's scope.
Sojo is definitely in the contenders for the best villains in Weekly Shounen Jump. Dude was skilled, mastered Cloud Gouger in a week, cool and calculated. I hope Hiyuki will live up to the hype.
Man I just finished chapter 17 and I can honestly say that it’s incredibly interesting, slower burn, similarity to other good anime/manga but does just enough to separate itself
I was really unsure about this mamgs when it first came out and even now chapters sometimes feel like they're approaching the axe, but I'm glad it's getting good attention.
Yet with this one for the last few months on the podcast he was calling it average and mid. Now he's all of a sudden calling it good once it got more popular
So the abilities the MC use are from the sword itself. While I do realize the enchanted blade is a major part of the story I wonder if we'll ever see the MCs personal magic?
For me its Ichigo's realization that Shiro is him. That no man is absolute good and no one's motives are absolute selflessness, that at the heart of us all there is a beast full of needs, wants, and *instinct* . In short he realizes that purity of motive or purpose isn't enough and thus that he is both monster and man, the same as us all. Which yeah is also Yuji's acknowledgement of Mahito as humanity's reflection. But it feels more personal than Yuji's moment, which Ichigo's is in my opinion.
Is it wrong that I feel kinda sad the praise for it is no longer sarcastic? Im super happy that it is unironically a good series and is earning its popularity, but it was so funny when everyone was teasing
