Hi Max, met you at Pak n Save a few weeks ago. Me and the kids just harvested our first Puriri seeds, cleaned and in the fridge now. Will let you know how we get on.
Howdy. I'm just trying to remember sorry. I know I keep an eye out for the puriri fruit and collect off the tree when the fruit have ripened to a beautiful red and the birds start getting into them. You can see when they start falling to the ground.
Hi, your videos are amazing thank you! I was given some dried Puriri seeds with the pulp dried on, and am currently soaking and scraping them. Will they be viable, and should I still cold stratify them after I have the dried pulp off, or am I wasting my time? Cheers, Annie.
Howdy. I would still wrap the seed in damp cloth, place in ziplock bag and leave in the fridge for a few weeks. The seed really needs that chilling factor to help germination. Let me know how you get on.
Hi there thanks for the videos - we have a bush block in the coromandel and i am trying to grow a few puhutukawa from seed. is this the same method for puhutukawa ie need to chill the seed? thanks in advance for your help!
Howdy Bob. I've grown pohutukawa from seed and is best to sow fresh seed. I dry out the ripe capsules in a paper bag and sprinkle the fine seed onto seed raising mix and then cover with the mix and keep moist until they germinate. Good luck! I live on the Coromande and I love it!
Thanks very much for your help with that! I've been busy collecting sead and preparing to have a go at some cultivation. I'm keen to put some big natives planted under the manuka that's in regenerating areas. Thanks again for your help and well done on the videos :)

Kia ora, are you able to provide any advice on propagating pūriri from cuttings? Thank you.
Howdy. I have never tried as I have always had great success from seed. If I do try, I will post a video
