Well done on this series of videos. Been inspired to plant the seeds after collecting a cone. Will see what happens after following your instructions. Great message too..."Plant some b.... trees!"
Just watched all your full series. You did a great job showing the process. After the cyclone in the Waitakere ranges theres a real need for more trees. im going to follow your example and grow a bunch
Loving your videos, thank you... are you able to do Kumarahou, I have been holding on to a whole lot of seeds but too scared to plant them and kill them 🤦🏽♀️
Hey Mate. Would love to see an update on the trees planted. :) P.s. I collected some seed pods Infound on the ground at a mates farm. I only had time to plant half. Most germinated following your steps!! Cheers for that! Is it to close to summer to plant the rest now?
Thanks Ryan, I will post a video of how the trees are going, in the ground, maybe after a year. I don't plant kauri out until April/May as it can be too dry this time of year. I'm sure you could though if you can hand water them all Summer. Cheers!
I bought kauri seeds from Germany and just saw your video. Have no idea how old these seeds are but would try. I live in Denmark and hope the seeds will grow. Thanks for the good video.
They may well but it seems they work it out amongst themselves. Some may stay smaller while others fill the space faster. In the bush, it's common to see trees growing very close together.
my cone fell apart today , thort was a bit soon, Im nervous as last yr they blew away, lol, im going to put a stocking over it, plant in March, is that about right, otherwise Im coming to you to buy some lol , ae ra Captain plants some blimmin trees . Fantastic work, I vote ur a saint of all Kauri, you so rock bro, still i dont think i can do it but one more try and into it. kia ora bro
That does seem a bit early. Maybe because of the hot dry weather. Just check the firmness of the seed and plant straight away. You could have plants up in a couple of weeks! Good on you!
Thank you for the insights in planting kauri. I am in Hawaii and attempting to germinate Agathis Macrophylla with zero success. I do all the steps youʻre describing in your videos, still nothing. Are there any tricks Iʻm missing? Aloha from Hawaii, Thomas P.S. your tree planting efforts are admirable
Howdy. Ah the Pacific kauri. I can't see how following this method wouldn't produce the same results I get, they are very similar. One possibility could be that the seed isn't as viable. If the seed is firm and plump, not thin and papery, it should be fine. It also has to be fresh and sewn as soon as possible once collected. Can't think of anything else as they are usually easy to germinate.
I keep my kauri off the ground, on benches, until they are potted up into bags. I believe best practice would be to keep them raised off the ground but because my trees are mostly grown and planted on my property, I'm not too concerned with dieback. Tiakina kauri is a site that sets out growing and planting guides and rules for growing and moving kauri to protect from dieback
Thankyou for the videos . I have been thinking about growing from seed but at this stage no . Yes to planting trees but really important to get the right trees in the right place ?
Absolutely! Of course with kauri they are often not going to be problem until they are quite big, which could take 50 -100 years or more! I also have no problem with pruning or even removing trees I have grown if they become a problem and enjoy them while they are young.
If the tips of the branches and trunk of my kauri sapling have wilted and dried out over the summer heat, should I prune these or just leave the tree to naturally shed them?
Howdy, for the first time I have seen this in trees I planted over the last 2 years. It has been so dry and many trees have suffered, even well established natives. I won't prune them and am hoping some rain will revive them and will get a new flush of growth.
If the seed is still plump and firm, you could try in a warm dry place and look after them but I have never planted kauri at this time (July) as I plant seed usually in March/April
Kauri snail from the root too the moana then to Harbour snail turns into seed grows in mangrove type waters then forms to stumps reason why everyone got to settle with maori cos other countries back then came here threw labor work in our mills
Hi Max, is it possible to email you about a question I have on propagating kauri seeds I have collected on Kawau Island in NZ? If so, are you able to provide me with a convenient email address? Many thanks
holy shit dude that bit at the end was so kiwi and so awesome. Plant some bloody trees. mate you are an inspiration.
Hahaha the most kiwi you'll get. 🌳🌳

Good on you Jimmy. There's not such thing as too many trees.
Wow. So epic. I have a massive kauri that’s dropping bombs and I want to help it out. Thanks for the inspiration!
Well done!
Brilliant. loving the vids!
Thanks for being such an inspiration! Plant some bloody trees I will!

Howdy Ame, I haven't grown Kumarahou yet but will as soon as I can source some seed.

Unfortunately the seed doesn't stay viable for very long so I'm not sure if they will germinate but good on you for giving it a go!
Great work!!
If you plant Kauri close together do they bang into each other when they get really big in 20 years? Thanks
They may well but it seems they work it out amongst themselves. Some may stay smaller while others fill the space faster. In the bush, it's common to see trees growing very close together.
Love these amazing videos and your awesome message.

thanks for the 4 videos starting tomorrow!
what are your thoughts on keeping them off the ground? i know some of the nurseries in Auckland have to keep them off the ground cause of dieback.

Do the honey bees like these?
Howdy Steve. It doesn’t appear so, there is a good list at a site called ‘native plants for bees’ though.

Hi Mate, pls add another video to show how big they are now... we are eager to know...

Hey bro could you start kauri off from seed now or is it too cold thanks
