Glad you got it to work out! Yeah, it's strange details like that which aren't quite obvious at first- thanks for leaving the comment and hope you never need to use the hook!
Pro tip- if your going out in bad conditions or purposely going out on trails. Install before you leave the house. You dont want to be digging for it once your vehicle is stuck. Also Put recovery strap in a BOX behind drivers seat. It will be nasty if you have to use it.
The newer Escapes, and all the C-max US models don't even have the hook port. I got one for my 2014 Escape. It's basically impossible to find a tow point on these unibody cars without the hook. If anyone knows where to hook a tow line to a C-max, please let me know. No wonder Europe mandated they be in there to prevent car maker stupidity.
well hopefully you can get one just to have in case of emergency- just FYI, we included a link to Amazon for one that works with '13-'16 but I'm not sure if it's a direct drop in fit for a '19. I can confirm if you'd like
Ace Cat- Your Escape doesn’t have a panel to remove? Make your own and leave the tow hook in permanently. Have someone with tools and a welder guide you through the process. That “specialty” tow hook could be made at home easily, along with adding something to receive the homemade tow hook. With proper driving techniques and proper winter tires, one should never be worried about becoming stuck. Unless your comment was of a sarcastic tone, then well played! I’m not taking anything away, nor hating on this video, as it’s informative.
take that, and throw it as far as you can in the dumpster! those are trash, no deacent tow company will use them because they are a liability and are KNOWN to let go and do more damage. also do not I repeat DO NOT tie a knot in a strap, you just GREATLY diminished the rating of the strap, instead have a rated shackle for it.
Thanks a lot, Tyler- noted in your comment on the FB page as well! You're correct on the strap with the diminished rating- a shackle & bolt would keep the straps in tension without degrading it. I'll add a note/ follow up video. Also, I believe I should also clarify that my intent for this video was to show there's something to use when we're stuck in a ditch somewhere- mostly if our vehicles still have power to the wheels- this hook has assisted me and others in helping pull your wheels out of a rut to then continue getting yourself out- I could see how a fully dead car could shear this bolt....
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews even a stuck vehicle can snap these if you jerk/jolt them too hard, or pull on a side ways angle. they only like perfectly straight
Thanks for the video, I had absolutely no idea it was left handed thread, saved me a return, because I couldn't get mine in

Thanks Tonto! Personal experience, I presume?!
Any chance you could do a video on installing a bull or push bar?
I have a 2016 escape
Do you know or can you find out what the thread is

Thanks for weighing in, @Joe_M- great to know about the C-Max too... we'll keep digging to find out and continue posting about it here or on the blog

@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews There is no spot on the front of the 2019 models. it seems they have removed them
2017 escape has this recovery hole in a frame but to get access you need to remove front bumper or cut a custom hole above right fog light.
There is a special place to store that hook. Under spare tire in a styrofoam holder where jack is. There is a specific mark for that thing.
Not applicable for 2019-2020 models.
