- Jim Keach sings a song from the soundtrack of the movie, "The Long Riders". Ry Cooder edited, arranged, and composed the music for movie. Ry Cooder won Best Music award in 1980 from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards for this soundtrack. Enjoy!
I tried to find a place to buy this directly from Ry Cooder, but didn't find it. There are sites all over that are selling the cd. Just Google it. I'm NOT promoting this site, but for those of you too tired (or don't want to take the time to Google), here is a site which has the cd for purchase: www.amazon.com/Long-Riders-Ry-Cooder/dp/B0000076AV
There are even vinyl's out there if you look!

The best song about the wild west that has ever been written .
And tell em I lived for the moment.
And I died when I tried to go straight...
I saw the film and was not impressed but the soundtrack echoes in my mind 30 years later, especially this Wildwood boys, a true masterpiece with philosophical tones. Thanks to Ry Cooder for the creation and arrangements, and Jim Keach for the interpretation. I still enjoy from time to time. thanks to both...
Great! Jim Keach sings this so-so strong! Touched me in one's heart of hearts!
This song takes on a new life in light of the times we now live in
It's all about a post civil war era. Civil wars are strange like that. The defeated Royalists of the English Civil War lost their fortunes and estates, confiscated by Cromwell. Many took to the road and used their old army ranks and titles. Colonel this and Captain that. England had a plague of highwaymen robbing coaches. The defeated Confederates of the American War, old Quantrille raiders, joined the James Younger gang and others and robbed Yankee trains and banks. The Republicans defeated by Franco in the Spanish Civil War often took to the hills of the Sierra Nevada of Southern Andalucia. Many were there, or rather their descendants still lived in the wilder parts as late as the 1990s. By that time their trade was mainly hash and heroin smuggling. The Guardia Civil had regular patrols in those mountains. I was stopped several times in the hills :
"Documentas por favor, etc. "
The latest I've heard is that many of Putin's jailbait released from prison and sent to Ukraine, are now back in Russia, raping, robbing and murdering civilian Russian people. Not strictly a civil war perhaps, but as Putin thinks Ukraine belongs to Russia, it qualifies as one, at least in his eyes.
Wonderful period piece, with its mournful Gaelic strains...."The Long Riders" in 1980 was the best American Western in a long time, and it's power is that it departs from the accustomed Hollywood typologies, and does a good job of recreating the period.
Jim Keach sings Wildwood Boys; My favorite. !!!
+key2seventhree So glad you found it here and enjoyed! Thanks for letting me know also. I've had 3 comments since 2011, so yours is truly appreciated, Moppet
p.s. I have a Playlist called "Soundtracks" with the music from The Long Riders in it. Also, Crossroads & The Songcatcher soundtracks.
learning this for a jam this tuesday . Jessie was a complex character...brave , hard as nails , a brilliant guerilla fighter , cruel and sadistic to those who didn't share his views , wouldn't want to be his neighbour....but those were harsh times and atrocities happened on all sides .I can understand why a lot of folks think of him as a hero , sure enough . Regards from the U.K.
Good Words
God bless him, Frank and Cole more my kind of feller. Jesse born from the bloody border reality of the times. Damn! Damn Yankees! Rebel Yell from Scots-Irish in London. Bank robbery is freedom.
Superb.
I love this so much.
Great vocal. Beautiful arrangement and playing.

Thanks for putting this on here. I had been looking for it now and then for a while. My favorite song from this soundtrack.
@UncleDuckle So glad you found your favorite song from the soundtrack. I tried to get them all on, but some were blocked. It is a great soundtrack! Thanks for listening. It means a lot to me to know that some like the music I'm putting up. Your comment is greatly appreciated! My best to you, Moppet (Barbara)
It's one of my favorite soundtracks. I like Ry Cooder a lot and have known him since his early work with the Rolling Stones. I have this on vinyl but need a new turntable to play it. I was really happy to find the songs that you were able to put up from it.
A true Southern Classic Up the Missouri Rebs Oorah !!!
@UncleDuckle Thank You! I loved Ry with the Stones before I knew it. When I found out who 'the player' was, that was it. I've been a dedicated fan. I loved him with Taj. When Southern Comfort & Long Riders came out, that was icing on the cake. I need to get my turntable working also. Thanks for commenting!!! If you look around, I don't get many! It's ok though. On some songs I see comments that don't have a thing to do with the music. Just arguments. I'd rather have nothin' than fighting! Thanks
we call it the.outllaws lament. all us old criminals can relate to it.
I've been gone due to illnesses. Just seeing this comment and you made me smile. Thank you, Moppet
absuloutly.
Rebel Yell! 14th Virginia Captain James Strain and his three brothers. My other side Hoy , well one rode with Quantrel and was hung Perry Hoy. His son married Jesse James daughter. Scots Irish in London. Rebel yells.
