Yup, i can relate. One of my supervisors saved like a crazy man for a few years to buy himself a new Land Rover. Wouldn't listen to people who tried to warn him. 38K miles and two yrs later amd the transmission's dying quick. He is going to learn firsthand about the Revenge of the Hindu. Tata Motors (India) bought both Jaguar and Land Rover, two of Englands premium car lines, and promptly made two pretty twitchy vehicle lines a total disaster by putting Tata parts in them.

I use to own an ex-Australian Army Land Rover 110 with the Isuzu 4BD1 engine. It was uncomfortable, it was dusty, it was noisy, it was slow (speed limited to 140kph), no power steering, it was not secure (no key) but it was bulletproof, reliable and could go just about anywhere. I miss that old girl.
I tow Jeep, Patriots, Compass's, Wranglers, Grand Cherokee's, Liberty's on a daily basis......Now that I know Fiat is the culprit! Makes all the sense in the world! "Fix It Again Tony"
I drive a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Got it from mom for $1,000. It's a real Jeep with a 3.7l V-6, leather seats (now cracking from age). It needed work as mom and sis didn't take very good care of it. Man, that engine hauls a&&. Love the visibility. Most used to drive here and there picking up junk for the house. Overall a great vehicle. The new Jeeps and the Nissan Rogue are garbage cars. I hated the Nissan. It's worse than the Jeep Compass. I like the Jeep Renegade but it's a F.I.A.T. Fix It Again Tony.
I look at these cars with heated seats and and all the bells and whistles. We as a country have become so soft. My first car was a 69 Ford Galaxie with nothing. But hell it had vent windows which should be brought back. Today we live in a cocoon, some people never even roll down their windows for years unless they are at a drive through. The simple pleasure of the open road has been lost. Quite the pity, glad I lived when I did. I guess it's all relevant, you can't explain it to someone who wasn't there there. You can't miss what you never had.
My fiancée has a Ford Bronco Sport. Brake issues. Suspension issues. Differential issues. Software issues. Sensor issues. Not to mention all the little things just falling apart.
Electronics and plastics have been taken WAY to far! Then the cheaper and cheaper material, lower and lower quality control, no thanks, I'll keep driving my old CJ-7
Being born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, it's just been sad watching Jeeps turn to junk. When Daimler came into the picture, they still had a few good years but that also went by way of the roadside. I have many, many friends and family who work for and retired from Jeep, they won't touch their own product anymore even with the employee perks that go along with the purchase. Just sad.
Not just the compass but every Chrysler product. I own a journey and my son had a challenger (had) now a charger and I'm convinced they are designed to fail. Mainly the coolant! So far the plastic in the cooling system WILL break and so will the engine. Advice any Chrysler product with the plastic tee's in the cooling lines get rid of them. Cut the hose and buy a brass or stainless steel tee to replace them. When the electrical phenomenon starts pull up the fuse box under the hood and check the wiring. The box rubs on the wires and will start shorting out or catch on fire like my journey. Do it now because you won't have time to jack the car up and take off the wheel and pull out the fender well to disconnect the battery under the fuse box while it's on fire unless your on a nascar pit crew. The pins in the brake calipers are soft and hard breaking will bend them and cause a wheel to not disengage.
The Lincoln navigators use a bunch of plastic gears behind the dash for the multizone hvac. when the car starts to get old all those gears will have a tooth break off. You have to rip so many parts off to get back there. it's expensive to fix. Then a year later another one will break. When they break they'll start making a loud popping noise as you're driving the vehicle.
@@alpine1600s I own both by the way. I have a "real 4wd vehicle" : explorer sport Trac , and my Cherokee Trailhawk. It's quite good.
I think an all wheel drive vehicles should be replaced by 4 wheel drive. I like the idea of having fwd until it comes a situation when I can push a button and turn it into 4WD
Worst car I’ve ever worked on. Was a 2016 jeep renegade with that 2.4 tiger junk. Try to change the starter on a four-wheel-drive and see what you run into.
I have a 2007 dodge caliper 2.0 automatic. Im at 390000 miles. I have a lifetime powertrain warranty I am on my second transmission (free under warranty) Engine never been opened Engine burns 1/2 quart every 4000 miles The car has never left me on the side of the road Best vehicle I've ever owned
I've driven domestic cars and trucks for over fifty years (GM, Ford, and Dodge), and have never, repeat NEVER had reliability or quality issues like Scotty loves to drone on forever about. I have always been a fanatic about maintenance and have kept very good care of my vehicles. Have covered the USA from coast to coast, every state in the union, never been stranded on the road anywhere, ever.
Same here with 07 caliber. I am approaching 200k and still going. I believed that the 2.0 engine for the caliber was developed by Hyundai, Nissan, and Chrysler. No wonder why it's a good engine.
My brother in law bought a new Jeep. He kept saying "you should get one". Then the troubles started. He didn't keep it long. It was a piece of junk. I never cared for Chrysler products after the 50's. They just seemed to be cheaply made. Now, I see so many Chrysler products with premature rusting. All the new cars have way to many gadgets and computers on them. Worst part is a lot of mechanics are leaving the dealerships. Many seem to be parts changers now, basing their decisions on computers. I fear that eventually we won't have any real mechanics.
Actually, Scotty has now said several times that the Nissan Frontier in particular is probably a better choice than the new Tacoma, especially for the money. Just do the search. He seperated Nissan’s trucks from their other vehicles and says the cars are junk but they make solid, reliable trucks.
Based on Scotty’s information (and other evidence) I just bought a 2019 Frontier Pro4X with 31k miles on it. It’s black, has all options and a lock-in differential. Rides real smooth and it’s super peppy. Doesn’t get great gas mileage. I’m retired so I don’t commute. So gas mileage is something to consider about the vehicle.
@@CMBBmc-jd6ur my 2002 prerunner Tacoma v6 automatic gets 16 mpg average. 😂 And I still love it. Lol I would love to have a newer v6 frontier! Do they make them with manual transmissions?
Scotty, I just bought a 2024 Nissan Titan. I did a lot of research on RUclips and get nothing but positive reviews, however Consumer Reports doesn't like them. Can you do a review on the Nissan Titan Pro X4 Please? Thank You!
We bought a Compass the first year. We needed 4WD as wife was a nurse and had to go to work no matter. Only issue after 2 years was two gas caps?!?!?!? Traded it after 2 sounds like a good move.I liked the design as you could still see AMC influence in it. Thx
I have a neighbor who had a 2019 Jeep Compass it had a 185,000 miles on it loves it he replaced it with a 2023 Compass. I don’t think it will give as good service as the previous one with a direct injected high pressure turbo engine.
I'm getting happier and happier with my 2016 Mazda CX-5. 2.5L, no turbo, 6- speed auto. 107K miles and no problems, doesn't burn oil. Mazdas or Toyotas in my future.
@@economicfusion6065just got a 2024 CX-50, handles like a dream. My only complaint is the AC is weak in hot temperatures. Weakest AC of any car I owned. Do you have any AC issues, or do I have a rare defect?
Notice that the AC plumbing, even the high-pressure pipes, are made of plastic! And you have to remove the front bumper and other things to replace the pipe.
I put a 65 inch tv in the box in the back of my Patriot completely flat, gate shut (back seats down) Basically the same vehicle. Sometimes the front passenger seat also flips down like my Cherokee trailhawk. Mpg is unremarkable. Never more than. 25mpg. The Cherokee trailhawk is an INCREDIBLE off roader. Nobodu can dispute, especially with a 2 inch lift.
I had a 93 Integra hatch. When I needed a washer/dryer I went to sears to pick them up. Had to take each out of the box and 2 trips. But it fit completely in that thing. I just needed to put a blanket on top to keep it from shattering the glass. That car got 50mpg on back roads and was fast af. Who needs a rollover mobile to bring big stuff home?
Wife had a 2014 compass. Extremely slow and not enough power to maintain cruising speed on the interstate so the transmission has to work very hard and burn up quick. When 2nd transmissions blew, got rid of it for junk
I really don't get why people hate on Toyotas for being boring. My 2015 Camry 2.5L is incredibly fun to drive and I love the sound of the engine at 6000 RPM. It's not a race car or anything but it's plenty fast for the majority of people. If you want speed, don't get a 4 cyl engine in the first place, but I'll happily rev my Camry to redline at 300K+ miles. Only issue I've had so far is that the screen went out
Gross weight of the Compass is the max weight of the vehicle with passengers/cargo. The curb weight of them is around 3300 lb range for the 4x4 model. And the 4x4 models are FWD until there's traction loss
My 2017 Jeep Renegade I babied. It had 2 coil packs, radiator fan, thermostat, coolant overfill tank fail. Of course I had the "normal" Oil consumption issue - at least 1 quart of added between oil changes. Then at 90K miles it had a small head gasket leak I was able to seal with coolant additive. It was the newest car I ever owned and I really enjoyed it. But I realized the engine was not going last much longer. It was my first and last Chrysler I will ever own. So I traded it in on a one owner 2004 Honda CRV that I now have 133K miles on. I hope to get many miles out of it and it seems to be pretty easy to work on a lot of things yourself. You have to ask yourself, have you ever heard anyone say "I would really like to get a Fiat!" ?
I got talked into this piece of making lemonade failure 2022 Jeep Compass trail hawk and I hate it! Nothing but problems from the beginning and they can’t fix them. DON’t buy it and yeah bad mpg.
I have a 2017 Compass i got when it was 2 years old with 23 thousand miles. It now has 36 thousand and I've had to replace 4 wheel bearings. It's a piece of excrement.
Uber and lyft break contractor protections to use our own equipment. We have to buy modern vehicles. I wished I could use an 03 maxima with a standard transmission.
The Compass/Patriot was nothing more than a reskinned Dodge Caliper. Played with the suspension for a little more clearance and there you have it. The interiors are almost the same in every way. The platform was an old Mercedes set up from when they owned Chrysler. (much like the Charger/Challenger/300) Fiat just built them till they ran out of parts and moved the name to the newer Fiat based platform.
This new car quality made the decision for me to rebuild my 99 Pathfinder if engine or trans dies 290k, only have to change the fenders they sucked up 98% of the rust its clean everywhere else. So far 3000 to buy it and 100 for a chip.
Time will tell if the new GRAND WAGONEER is gonna be crap too. That new 6 cylinder has great power but still too new. I talked to a guy who bought one of these lower cost JEEP vehicles brand new. Nothing but trouble and noisy engine.
one of the ladies I work with leased one of these and it was at the dealer at least 2x I know of with engine replacements ...she eventually got something else ..
Any thoughts on a well maintained 2012 Toyota Prius with 116K miles? The car is being sold for $7900 and nearly all services were done at a Toyota dealer. It also has the original hybrid battery.
Prius is actually a high mileage low maintenance work horse. Prius taxis getting 300-400K miles or more. The engines are tough and so are the hybrid systems. Yours is barely broke in. Park it in garage or carport, change oil and take care of it and it won’t let you down. I’m on my third Toyota hybrid so I’m speaking from experience.
You are a little late..... I bought my 2021 Pre-owned Compass Latitude in March. I eliminated a new 2020 Chevy Trax in less than 36,000 miles when it began to not responding to the gas pedal. I do have an engine warranty til 98,000 miles.
Om jag någon gång skaffar en annan bil så blir det en lite större kombi ev en ganska stor suv!?. Men det ska vara en rejäl motor och helst inte automat!!!!!!!!
Hey scottykilmer.....A UK follower here...One aspect of road transport not talked about, [for some obscure reason?]...is the massive air pollution from tyre and brake dust!! Especially around heavily used roads. The heavier a vehicle, the more brake and tyre rubber dust it puts out. Given the appalling ''couldn't-care-less'' driving attitudes of too many drivers these days, that pollution issue is going to become worse, as ordinary personal transport gets heavier. To my mind, the whole electric vehicle thing is all ''mouth & trousers''......Shifting the real pollution issues away from the consumer, into areas of the globe where we think it doesn't matter. I agree with the whole climate change thing [so am not in denial]...I just disagree with the way we are going about things.
Thank you for your informative videos, I have been wondering, what would happen if you fill your radiator with ATF instead of water and antifreeze. The ATF is very liquidy, would protect your engine from corroding inside, and it should never freeze. I know it is a stupid question, but I'm quite interested to hear your comment.
The only reliable Compass is a rare find. It's the year where they offered the 6F transmission with the 2.4 World Engine not the 2.4 Tiger shark. The new Compass is just as bad with the horrible tuning they did on the ZF 9 speed. It's pretty sad when Nissan got the gear ratios correct for the ZF but Chyrsler couldn't. Even with the 3.2 V6 in the Cherokee it only uses 7 gears because 8 and 9 are way too tall.
Dang. I can't win! I am afraid to ask, Scotty, but what do you think about a Ford Escape, 2022? Do you have any thoughts on it? Thanks for all of the information you share! You are appreciated! ❤
Maybe he didnt buy the Land Rover for the "image", maybe he bought it because when its working, hell, even when it's broken it's a much nicer and more refined car in every way than a Toyota.

I’m a speechless mechanic 🧐
I barely see these on the road. Every now and then I do, but few and far between. Glad you've had success with it.
Thank You!
All luxury cars have always had a lot of electronics and that is there downfall as they get older.
We bought a Compass the first year. We needed 4WD as wife was a nurse and had to go to work no matter. Only issue after 2 years was two gas caps?!?!?!? Traded it after 2 sounds like a good move.I liked the design as you could still see AMC influence in it. Thx
😂
I'm an older car man simply because the cars made today are way too complex for me. Especially with P.O.
Buy Honda , Toyota , Mazda , Subaru… Japanese . The end
It really is that simple.
Buy a 1969 dodge dart with a slant six with some up grades you can work on one with your eyes closed. All new vehicles are garbage.
Mazda is actually doing better for reliability and is more affordable.
The Newer Mazda's have came a long way TOO
Honda quality has slipped in recent years says scotty
I have a neighbor who had a 2019 Jeep Compass it had a 185,000 miles on it loves it he replaced it with a 2023 Compass. I don’t think it will give as good service as the previous one with a direct injected high pressure turbo engine.
Scotty : I'm English
Even our candles are second rate .
The wick is an optional extra .....
😂😂😂😂
That's too bad. It's a cute little jeep. I rented one for a week while waiting for my personal car to be repaired. It drove well.
Calling the Compass a Jeep is an insult to the real Jeeps.
I had to rent a car recently for a couple weeks. They gave me a Jeep Compass. Less power & cargo space than my 2008 Mazda3.
The CVT transmissions are junk. Stay away from anything Fiat. My son learned the hard way, but he learned.
This is not a fiat
I'm getting happier and happier with my 2016 Mazda CX-5. 2.5L, no turbo, 6- speed auto. 107K miles and no problems, doesn't burn oil.
Mazdas or Toyotas in my future.
Same here. I also have 2016 cx5. 80k miles. Also have a 2021 cx5
@@economicfusion6065just got a 2024 CX-50, handles like a dream. My only complaint is the AC is weak in hot temperatures. Weakest AC of any car I owned. Do you have any AC issues, or do I have a rare defect?
@@The_Laureate i will say the 2016 has slightly better ac, but not by much
When Scotty's hand waving index goes up so high. Stay away from that vehicle!!!!
Yes I have a 2002 4 inch lift 33 x12.5 R17s mint condition, Bushwhacker Fender Flare Kit,Blacked Out, Heavly Modified,Love Offroading!
@@ryanbrandt5404 yep. Had an 88 Integra. Was a beast for that stuff.
If you're considering anything sold by Stellantis, you're making an enormous mistake.
Wife had a 2014 compass. Extremely slow and not enough power to maintain cruising speed on the interstate so the transmission has to work very hard and burn up quick. When 2nd transmissions blew, got rid of it for junk
Scotty was hilarious in this video. He was HYPED UP! 😂
8:06 That would be a Code 2.
I believe in function over form and speed because I don't want to be buried under the jail speeding
I love this damn mechanic he’s so funny he makes me wanna be a mechanic you have anything to say about mk4 2000 - 2002 Volkswagen jetta
Great video review and I mostly agree with you on these cars. The Lincoln is a jaw-dropper.
Scotty: coffee is very healthy, as long as you don’t drink 20 cups before doing this video.
Cheers!
the content is good, but the animal pictures are what keep us coming back
Time will tell if the new GRAND WAGONEER is gonna be crap too. That new 6 cylinder has great power but still too new. I talked to a guy who bought one of these lower cost JEEP vehicles brand new. Nothing but trouble and noisy engine.
Got to love it when Scotty and Kamala laughs out loud.
@@Michael-yi4mc hate when she does
Landrovers also have trouble with airbag failure on suspension
one of the ladies I work with leased one of these and it was at the dealer at least 2x I know of with engine replacements ...she eventually got something else ..
I have 2008 jeep compass it has 207,000 miles on it and i do Uber with it
Any thoughts on a well maintained 2012 Toyota Prius with 116K miles? The car is being sold for $7900 and nearly all services were done at a Toyota dealer. It also has the original hybrid battery.
Prius is actually a high mileage low maintenance work horse. Prius taxis getting 300-400K miles or more. The engines are tough and so are the hybrid systems. Yours is barely broke in. Park it in garage or carport, change oil and take care of it and it won’t let you down. I’m on my third Toyota hybrid so I’m speaking from experience.
@@Chaz610 Okay cool! I appreciate the advice and knowledge from your experience. It seems as though it’d be a legit purchase. Thank you.
I rented a Jeep on a recent trip to Florida, and it was the worst car I have ever rented in America.
Can you do a video of what cars to buy if a person lives in Connecticut? Price range $6,000
Scotry merch sweater : comin out the wa-zoo
Don’t buy an automatic transmission. But the manual transmission is a totally different beast, and you can get them cheap.
Ahh, jeep Lincoln, Land Rover. The choice of every middle aged woman, old couple and off roader.
Lincoln died with the town car, sad really.
@@Winters_Follyso true and Buick died in 2004 in my eyes
That 2024 Lincoln Nautilus is state of the art (the interior display is epic), now only the test of time will determine its reliability down the road.
And the newly rich that do not know any better.
Another recallmobile
Bring back the 3800 hundred motor
Jeep isn’t owned by Fiat. Stellantis owns Abarth, Alfa Romeo, 😮Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall.
FCA is Fiat 🤣
@@jenniemetcalf5900 what’s FCA?

Hey Scotty, get your hand off my door window 3:15 you are leaving prints on my glass.
You are a little late..... I bought my 2021 Pre-owned Compass Latitude in March.
I eliminated a new 2020 Chevy Trax in less than 36,000 miles when it began to not responding to the gas pedal.
I do have an engine warranty til 98,000 miles.
Hey scotty what you think of the nissan, honda and mitsubishis merge?
The shade tree mechanic is DEAD💀
Tacka vet jag manuell. Växellåda.!!!!!
I'll buy a jeep and Landrover when you do Scotty
Thank you for your informative videos, I have been wondering, what would happen if you fill your radiator with ATF instead of water and antifreeze. The ATF is very liquidy, would protect your engine from corroding inside, and it should never freeze. I know it is a stupid question, but I'm quite interested to hear your comment.
I got a 2004 Chrysler Town and country. 165,000 miles. Also another vehicle but My van is luxury
How's your AC? I have the same vehicle, but the aC is crap.
Thank you Scotty for your advice
The old v8 Lincoln was 🐐 these days saburban Denali
So it sounds like the only reliability built into these cars is that you can rely on them to be overpriced and need expensive repairs at some point!🤔😕
Had a jeep liberty loved the body style and proformance but a gas hog to no end.. sold it.. got a Toyota Highlander the same ordeal..
If you need a backup camera, you shouldn't drive ,call Uber
The only reliable Compass is a rare find. It's the year where they offered the 6F transmission with the 2.4 World Engine not the 2.4 Tiger shark. The new Compass is just as bad with the horrible tuning they did on the ZF 9 speed. It's pretty sad when Nissan got the gear ratios correct for the ZF but Chyrsler couldn't. Even with the 3.2 V6 in the Cherokee it only uses 7 gears because 8 and 9 are way too tall.
When the light goes out none of these will run.
Dang. I can't win! I am afraid to ask, Scotty, but what do you think about a Ford Escape, 2022? Do you have any thoughts on it? Thanks for all of the information you share! You are appreciated! ❤
My mother bought one of these back in 2010. I've never seen a bigger colossal piece of garbage on wheels. Never ever buy one of these off shoot jeeps.
Maybe he didnt buy the Land Rover for the "image", maybe he bought it because when its working, hell, even when it's broken it's a much nicer and more refined car in every way than a Toyota.
WHAT IS THE BEST AUTO OR CAR TO BUY THAT'S ELECTRIC FOR THE MONEY
Probably Chevy Bolt
nissan leaf for best value
Prius. New ones are pretty sweet. 44 miles electric before gas kicks in.
Any Toyota hybrid. You'll really appreciate not being tied to a supercharger for an hour
I want the Cartman door mat!
Fram till mitten av 2000 talet så var svenska Volvo och Saab mycket bra. Efter nej tack. På tok för mycket elektronik.
