    Thank you - just bought a house and couldn't figure out how to change the filter. I looked and looked before I found where it was supposed to be. Turns out the renovators never put a filter in so it's been running for months with no filter and dogs in the house. I have an idea of why my bills are so high now....

      We recommend a furnace inspection which would be a very good investment to get your furnace cleaned up and running back like it should be. The company that I hire also does a very good job cleaning it up inside so as to make it run efficiently and removes any fire hazard or problems from not having a filter. Our lake home had the same terrible situation that you did, no filter, and it was actually in need of the tune up as a result and almost failed to work that winter when we purchased it. I am very happy to hear my video helped you with your furnace.

      To re dig a whole new draonfeold I mean lol not just to used it xd so don't worry take care of it pump the tank when the capacity is taken up by one or two thirds of "sludge" and scum now just a sec year student in north american secondary school but the real pros call em soemtiem "floaters and sinkers" lol sorry this is gross but very expensive and hair pulling jwren not working right as you may imagine...don't worry about "little poppies floating up in my yard like play dough" "coming up from out of the yard"
      That is not how it works it uses a pump if this is not a gravity system the most inexpensive system I presume as well obviously its not ognan need hopefully an electrical per!MIT etc for a pump or pumps,alarms etc but the alarms are lovely by she rhombus controls by letting one know Jane there is a situatipn" where the tanks three quarters full so to give emergency time to turn off the water and either let it "rest" in other words use no water anywhere in the hpusre,no dishes,laundry,baths,etc for at LEAST three days tbh just for on the safe side otherwise you will risk having a backup/septic system overflow/breakout....eotheri n the house at lowest point or points of drains possible or if lucky in the event of these happening hopefully it don't tho but if does then outside the hosueo n yard at LEAST is better...hey IRS a start whereas mold etc could grow in house

      I think it should be ok. I purchased a cabin that did not have any filter on the furnace at all. Who knows how long it was without but it ran fine. Over time the fan motor could wear out or become unbalanced, and the inside ducting of the inner furnace will get all contaminated. The filter is important, but there is room for error. I am glad my video helped you out.

    • @WordofAdviceTV
      @WordofAdviceTV 5 лет назад +2

      I go to houses where people have been putting it in backwards for years and there's no problems. To be honest, after seeing thousands of filters I don't think it affects the airflow much. Many filter have a net on one side and not the other. The netted side goes toward the furnace or blower motor. That way if someone does not replace the filter for a long time, the net will prevent it from being sucked into the blower wheel. (I have seen them sucked in before, takes forever to pry them out of there)

    My story: I took the old filter out and it looked very nasty after 1 year, then I went to buy the new one at the gorcery store and they did not have the right size. I got one a bit smaller for tonight and hopefully I find the right size tomorrow.
    I learned to but the filter first then put the old one to garbage.

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  8 лет назад

      hahaha, I forgot I said that. I love when I can humor someone when doing chores. Yes, make sure you get the correct size because a filter that is too small can leak around the edges, or even get sucked into the intake. I have the same problem at the lake so I have to purchase filter material and cut it do size and place it on a simple wire frame to keep it in place. Thank you for taking the time to write a positive comment.

      If the new filter does not help get the airflow to increase, then have your landlord get the fan motor checked. If it does not move air adequately then the furnace will not work very well at all, and the airconditioner will freeze up in the summer.

    what would be causing a rust pattern in the middle of an air filter? The last one I changed was just dusty, today the one I pulled had a huge, long rust stain in the middle. Does this have to do with moving from AC to heat? Bad pump? Thanks!

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  5 лет назад +1

      That is very strange. There must have been some condensation of water inside the vent, and touched some metal and dripped onto the filter. As long as the filter is dry, I would not worry. It is highly advisable to have a furnace inspection once in a while. They recommend every year or two, but even once in five years is better than nothing. You might want to consider a furnace inspection if that happens again. They can make adjustments and clean it to save you some money.

Filter seems to be 16x22x1 or maybe a 5.

      If you don't have an owners manual, check the model number of your furnace and do an on line search to see what air filter you should use. After years of doing daycare I learned that cleaning an air filter and having frequent furnace cleanings helps to keep the air quality clean. :)

    The a/c technician came out to fix our a/c and he removed the filter from the unit which is in our attic. When we got the new filter, we didn't know which way the air was flowing since the old filter was gone. There is a huge tube (about 2' in height) covered with plastic and (I'm assuming) insulation to the left of the air filter cartridge leading away from the unit. To the right of the air filter cartridge is some sort of machinery. Looks like a tank of some sort. We are assuming the air is flowing out through the tube and not toward the machinery. Does that sound right? You said that the air flows toward the furnace. If that tank-looking machinery is the furnace, then our filter is in backwards. We can't tell which way the air is flowing just by feel. What do you think?

    • @videostothepoint8671
      @videostothepoint8671 7 лет назад +3

      The filter slot is almost always installed on the "return air" side of the furnace. If you take a piece of paper and hold it in the filter slot you will see it start to pull to one side. At first it just seems to pull straight in, but if you cover up some of the filter slot opening the paper will pull to one side. Point your filter arrow that same direction. Good luck, and don't let go of the paper! :)

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  6 лет назад +1

      All furnaces "should" have a filter, somewhere in the system. Perhaps it might be in the air ducting further from the furnace, but only your owners manual can tell you that. It is possible that a home might have a furnace installed without a filter, even though all furnaces are supposed to have one, but some people might be dumb enough not to install one in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. I purchased a lake home that the owner neglected to have contractors finish the filter housing, and set a filter on the intake carelessly, and so much dirt, hair and dust entered the furnace that the fan blades had serious problems after 12 years.

    • @stevetrivoli1385
      @stevetrivoli1385 6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your response. My furnace is in my attic. Hard to get to. I did pull the cover off today for the first time in 16 years. No filter directly connected to this unit. Looked relatively clean inside. The instruction are nailed 5 feet above the unit and unreachable without major effort. Really odd.

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  6 лет назад

      Look for any intake filters, such as in the ceiling or walls. All ducting leads to the furnace, so there must be some part of the ducting that has a filter. I have seen them in the ceiling.

      yeah there are filters at the ceiling on each floor, I always change those. but is there filter in the furnace too? is it either or maybe both. • @videostothepoint8671
      @videostothepoint8671 7 лет назад

      If you only have one heating system and there are two filter slots in the home then there is probably not another filter anywhere in the attic. Sometimes filters can be installed INSIDE the blower compartment of the actual furnace itself, but rarely when the unit is in a hard to reach place like an attic, and especially if you already have accessible filters in the home.
      If you are unsure you may want to schedule a one-time $60 tune-up with a
      reputable hvac company to double check. Could be well worth it.

    Can a dirty filter inside the furnace cause ac unit to rumble and sound like it wants to blow up? Just rented a place and we turned on the unit and it started rumbling something bad,the outside unit sounded normal,nothing was stuck in it,came back inside and the indoor was rumbling..Checked the filter and its very dirty

    • @FROSTYLIFE
      @FROSTYLIFE  8 лет назад

      I recommend that you have the owner get a furnace inspector over there to check it out. Most cities have laws where the furnace of rental properties be inspected every year or two. The rumble just might be a dirty or damaged circulation fan.

      I know where the furnace filter is and I change it regularly. I was wondering if the air conditioning uses the same filter as the furnace or does the AC have a dedicated filter located somewhere else?

      Wow I felt bad not changing mine for a year (got my first home and was clueless). Crazy how yours still works after that long but glad it does.

    Don't write the date on the side of the furnace. Write the date on the side and top of the filter!

    Another person who likes hearing himself talk.
    It shouldn't take 9 minutes to show how to change an air filter and which direction is the air flow.
