- Hello loves! I wanted to start a new series (that I can actually keep up with) and that's to really lean into tracking my hair journey. I'm not saying this is a growth journey and I'm not limiting it to natural hair, just focusing on Fred. I honestly haven't had a consistent hair routine since I started this channel but, I think this will be a great way to use what I've learned and share it with you all. I hope you all enjoy! 💛

I'm Faren. I big chopped in April 2013. I have medium to low porosity hair, that is super dense at the crown. My haircare regimen includes washing my hair at least once a week, regular treatments (protein, olaplex and bond salve) and trims every 3 months on blown out hair. I am not a hair care professional, and I'm honestly still learning my hair.

Love the new color! I've started doing a pre-poo process by applying Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my scalp and letting it sit for hours with a moisturizing pre-poo on my hair prior to shampooing. Also, I've been drinking more water and eating more veggies to help. I think you're right consistency is key.

I would recommend curls and potions blends scalp mask for dry scalp. You can use it before you wash your hair or after shampooing while you deep condition❤

You can try Nature’s Blessing as a better option to the Donna’s Recipe. No shade.
Ooou yes the PATTERN deep scalp detox is really nice. It’s easy to use too much so yes update us on that please. I use it as I prepoo and if I need some help before wash day.

Good idea to get a shampoo with zinc pyrithione and going to a dermatologist. Your hair color is beautiful ! It bring out the color in your eyes. Also you can try a shampoo with salicylic acid (I think neutrogena has one) and concentrate it onto the scalp. This should be your clarifying shampoo and follow up with a moisturizing shampoo then deep condition.

I've suffered with seboraic dermatitis my whole life (I don't think you have it but if you do, it's a very mild case). Top shampoos are 1 Nizoral (contains ketoconazole which is what dermatologists prescribe to treat dermatitis) 2 Neutrogena T Gel (contains tar soap, really stinks but keeps the flakes away for days) 3 Neutrogena T Sal (contains salicylic acid, not as effective as the first two however it's better than most over the counter anti dandruff shampoos... If you like minty cooling sensation, head and shoulders, mane choice tropical koolada and Mizani Anti Dandruff shampoo are honorable mentions. I hope this was helpful. I would also suggest a scalp scrubber to help get the dead skin off your scalp when shampooing and keeping all products off your scalp.
I have a tangle teeter shampoo brush that really gets in there, you think that works the same as a scalp scrubber?
I tried The Verb morniga oil a few drops on my dry flaky spots and it really helps with the dryness
Good to know, I've always been interested in trying The Verb, but I just haven't.
Do you use shampoo’s with sulfates . I know some naturalistas are terrified of that word. But get atleast one shampoo in your collection with sulfates. I recommend Head n Shoulders Tea Tree (really any of their shampoos, they contain 1% Zinc). My scalp use to flake so thick, my scalp scabbed up in certain areas. And when I had protective styles I would grease my scabs too with Blue Magic 😂
I do use sulfates now, just not every wash day lol. I'll definitely look into the H&S tea tree. And yessssss!!! My grandma used to grease my scabs with Sulfer 8 🤣 (and I used to hate smelling like Sulfur 8!)
