The Charlotte Hornets defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 97-65. Mouhamadou Gueye led the way for the Hornets with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Jake Stephens added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the victory. Stephon Castle tallied 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists for the Spurs in the losing effort. The Hornets improve to 1-0 in the Summer League California Classic, while the Spurs fall to 0-1.
Dude can defend and has good passing abilities. CP3 for sure a good mentor for the young man.

Hes fundamentally sound, and controls the tempo. Will develop nice with cp3 as a mentor
He can definitely play point guard. Has great vision has great pacing. I can’t wait to see him develop with CP3 on his team
To me, he feels a bit more like a wing who can handle the ball and be a secondary playmaker. Kind of like a young Jaylen Brown.
Idk man that 3 ball looks smooth as hell, his balance off two feet when he spins in the lane is brilliant. He does it so quick and can adjust his shot to either hand mid air, v excited to see him with the squad

Just goes to show, there’s a big difference between ‘can’t shoot’ and ‘inconsistent’. This is not some Ben Simmons situation, or even a Giddey situation, Castle has decent overall mechanics and coaching, reps and confidence will go a long way towards building consistency. Encouraging.

Huge uconn fan here. Watched every game. He lost his legs from an injury and once he got them back, his shot was fine. His shooting issues has been blown out of proportion. He's got great mechanics and great form.
@@Talo_Skywalkeryou’re right it is a little slow if he cleans it up by using the same form but make it a pure smooth 1 motion he can develop into a solid shooter. Little details make all the difference in shooting consistency

What doesnt show was opponents avoiding him like the plague like they used to do with Kawhi. Add in Wemby+Sochan and there's nowhere to attack.

Already has great court vision, bodies up well on defense and stays active thru the whole play, and his shot looks fluid. Perfect fit for the Spurs. I'm hyped to see him in the starting lineup

Stephon attended my school, Newton High, and graduated in 2023, while I graduated in 2012. The talent in today's league is incredible. The best player on our 2011 and 2012 team could not stop him.
Truly hard to believe this guy is only 19. He already has the ideal NBA body and even greater since he’s a PG, handles the ball like a vet. It’s just so amazing to watch! So excited for this team!

The Spin Move was cold, he did the spin to the right but finished with his left hand that's tough, good body control and awareness, for someone that's supposed to be a work in progress from 3 he's shooting with confidence and the form looks clean, that's a good sign.
In a :21 sec stretch in the 1st qtr, he got an off reb, asst, def reb and a bucket, CONSECUTIVELY. In his first game, the potential is there

You could see flashes at Uconn but he was a role player as is everybody on the Uconn squad(s). He has a complete game and has great vision/tempo as mentioned in the comments here. I think he can be a great pro. There is a reason Hurley was so high on this kid…got to see him every day and at 19….sky is the limit

Castle has a lot of poise and control for a 19yr old. Kinda like a CP3. Oooops he's gonna mentor him. 3 years tops and this kid will be borderline All Star. Wemby Sochan Castle defensive trio will be a nightmare to go up against real soon.
Poised, confident, fundamentally sound. Those alone will take him far.
I see a super high upside player. I have read all over scouting reports saying that he isn't any kind of elite athlete but with his size and strength for a guard he is as athletic as he needs to be for his game to work on both sides. Not to mention he plays with tempo. He looks like a guy who once he really starts improving after his 1st/2nd seasons who could have elite PG upside. Despite what I've heard there doesn't seem to be anything limited about his offense. The shot will have to improve over time but he knows where to be and where his shots are and has a much better looking 3 ball than I was expecting. Very impressed.

I like it, got the spin move, the floater, the deep three, good passing vision and works on defense. I see a larger tony Parker, less quickness but more length.

If he can actually develop a 36% 3 pointer on over 5 attempts per game. He could be a star. He has everything but a shot. But unfortunately players rarely ever improve shots from how poor his % in college was. So at best he may just be a bigger Marcus Smart.
