    3:43: You're knocking it because you THINK the hinge will loosen up over time. In fact, you said it will "definitely" loosen up. I had a Logitech headset that rotated like this for YEARS, and it never loosened up. I loved and miss that "rotate out of the way" mic. Please don't knock features because you THINK they'll degrade over time with no real evidence or data to back up that claim. I don't care if it actually does loosen up eventually. The fact is you don't know that at the time of this review. Also, those HyperX and Razer mics sound like absolute crap. Corsair has really nailed the mic in their headsets haven't they?
    7:38: Come on, giving people the impression that multi-device pairing might be an issue when you haven't even tested it, and just because you had a bad experience with a different company, is shady. I use a Virtuoso and Dark Core Pro on the same slipstream dongle and it works perfectly. 7:56: No, it's NOT your experience. You just said you've never tried it with Corsair devices. That's like not recommending a Ford because you had a bad experience with Chevy. Come on.
    I usually look forward to and respect your reviews, but these two things are a bit disappointing.

    • @KyleTP
      @KyleTP 3 года назад +39

      This review seems to have a really negative tone, when other reviewers are praising mic quality, sound quality and comfort, which are surely the most important aspects.
      He's complaining about the materials attracting finger oils because it looks bad, but he also said RGB is pointless since you can't see it when wearing the headset, so surely it doesn't matter if the material looks dirty since you can't see that either?
      Next he's complaining about not being able to position the mic arm differently, but why would you need to change its position when it already sounded fantastic in the sound test?
      Regarding battery life, he must have got a defective unit if he can only squeeze 8 hours out of them, at least a review on techpowerup stated they get around 21 hours with the RGB off which is a lot more reasonable, and I haven't heard anyone else mention terrible battery life.
      The weak range is kind of to be expected given the greater bandwidth for audio and mic quality, you don't really need a gaming headset to stay connected when in a completely different room from your TV/monitor, most people won't be gaming 6 metres or more from the dongle.
      I don't think other EQ settings matter too much because the headset will be using the default pure direct when on console/without iCUE running on PC so as long as that setting sounds good I don't care much about other choices.
      It also seems ironic that he complains about the possible long-term lack of durability with the microphone arm, yet he's sticking with the HyperX Cloud II wireless headset even though the volume wheel already broke lol.

    Bought two of these on sale. One for me, and one for my wife.
    Unfortunately, the headset was too small for my head. I have a fairly big head, but this one definitely seems to be for medium/small head sizes.
    It fit my wife perfectly though, and I set it up for her and tested sound and mic. Mic is absolutely outstanding, although we did find it best to boost it all the way up in the ICUE software (device settings > Mic Boost). Sound also seemed really good. A definite upgrade from her Steelseries Arctis 7 wireless headset, but none of us are audiophiles, so I can't comment on how accurate it is. First impressions were really good though.
    I really wish they made the frame for the headset bigger, as it seems like a perfect headset to me in many ways. But I guess I'll stick with my Corsair Void Elite Wireless headset for a while more.

    As a previous owner of the HS80, I can say that the microphone on this thing really IS impressive. It's so clear but also has plenty of body - some would mistake it for a studio quality mic. It's honestly that good. The sound on these are also equally impressive. Dolby Atmos sounds fantastic, and the sound stage is well represented but also fairly wide (especially in comparison to the Virtuoso's, which is a very closed sound stage). I thought the ear cups were soft and comfortable, but could have been a liiiiittle bit larger for my taste.
    Overall, my main gripe with the HS80 came down to the microphone, ironically. However, it wasn't the sound quality but instead the functionality (or lack thereof) of its flip to mute arm. First off, in its standard position the mic flips straight down at a level fairly far from your mouth, so its pickup registers fairly low and I had teammates telling me that I was difficult to hear. "Well its adjustable, right?", you're probably thinking... *sigh* Well, yes and no. You CAN bend the arm towards your mouth which allows for far better pickup audio as well as a clearer sidetone for yourself (which is fairly low without adjusting it closer), however this presents another problem. Upon bending the arm in order to allow better audio pickup, you have now introduced another problem which is when the you want to mute the mic you MUST flip it back up. And when doing so in a "bent" position, the way the mic is attached to the headset in its location means that the end of the mic is going to be touching your forehead or hair in its "muted" state. Each time I positioned the mic to be directly in front of my mouth (slight to the side to prevent pops), it meant that if I flipped it up it was rubbing or in direct contact with my head. This is in contrast to my previous GSP 500's which also feature a flip to mute mic, but one that is mounted OUTSIDE the ear cup, not under it.
    In conclusion, I feel Corsair would have been far better suited giving the HS80 a flexible and removable boom mic, similar to that on the Virtuoso, which allows for a far better range of movement and control. In its current state, it is probably the least convenient flip to mute mic I have used and that is disappointing considering it's capture quality is quite good - extremely good, actually. This may not bother some people, maybe even most, but I do think the mic could have been better designed from a functionality and comfort perspective and I hope if Corsair decides to update this headset with a similar cousin or successor that they take this feedback into consideration. Especially since it's my ONLY gripe with the HS80 - everything else on this headset is superb. And if the flip to mute style doesn't bother you at all, I whole heartedly recommend it.

      @PumatSol 3 года назад

      Quick question, did you have icue always running for sidetone or is it possible to enable it and then close out of icue? I refuse to have that bloatware running at all times and I just want to disable the lighting and enable sidetone and that’s it. I’d rather uninstall after that if I can.

    I could be wrong but I think the reason why the HS80 mic sounds a little better than the XT’s is the position of the mics. In the HS80 the fixed position of the mic looks to be further away than the position of the XT. I think maybe if you moved the XT mic further away (that’s if the mic is even capable to be repositioned) it might make it sound a bit less harsh if you know what I mean

    To anyone interested in buying this headset, let me tell you something that these youtubers won't even mention at all. The sidetone. This headset has such a low sidetone volume no matter how much you adjust it through ICUE, or move the placement of the mic that it will not help, unless you use third party applications. I've had this headset for about 3 days now and I have messed with it every which way using the default methods: ICUE, Windows mic settings, and the Dolby Atmos software that comes with the headset. This headset would be nearly perfect if not for the awfully low sidetone volume, and sometimes even low mic problems. Shouldn't have to resort to using a third party app just to fix a device out the box.

    Logitech wireless G533. No RGB, choice of using DTS 57.1 of Logitech's sound scheme, still works all the way a floor level below when I go get a coffee and audio left running up in bedroom. And battery lasts a long time and charges quick. Love it! Super comfy, good mic, removable ear cushions. Was $100 Canadian, but I got on sale for half that, (Black Friday week sales 2 years ago, still going strong and I use it allot).

    Recently did a battery replacement on my HS70s, pain in the butt but worth it since I really liked em (and missed warranty period). Shame to see battery hasn't really improved, but omfg the mic is great - man I wish it was the old removable arm though. Whhhy RGB, I wish they had marketed these as a step down from Virtuosos instead of the step up from HS70. It looks like void headset made a child with arctis headset.

    [00:00] Hey there, Dmitry! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Corsair HS80. It's always great to hear from someone who's experienced the product firsthand.
    [00:27] I totally get your mixed feelings about it. It's strange when a headset has some impressive aspects but also disappoints in certain areas. The design and comfort seem like positive improvements, but the issues with the mic arm and battery life are definitely a letdown.
    [02:32] I'm with you on the RGB obsession-sometimes it feels like manufacturers prioritize flashy lights over practical features. And it's frustrating when there's no voice prompt for changing EQ profiles. Small details can make a big difference in user experience.
    [03:14] It's good to know that Corsair kept things simple with the accessories. Sometimes less is more, especially when the core product quality is solid.
    [04:09] Microphone quality is crucial for many users, so it's nice to hear that the HS80 performs well in that department. Have you had a chance to compare it to other wireless headsets in a similar price range? I'm curious to know how it stacks up against competitors.
    [05:32] Comfort is a big deal, especially during long gaming sessions. The adjustable strap and comfy ear cup padding sound like good design choices. And the flat mode for VR compatibility is a smart move.
    [06:31] That's a surprising limitation with the wireless range. It's strange that Corsair would advertise 18 meters but not deliver on that promise. I'm glad the reconnection is quick, but the voice prompt bug is definitely annoying.
    [08:05] Battery life is a major concern for wireless headsets, and it's disappointing that the HS80 needs daily recharging with RGB on. A percentage battery indicator in the software would be a simple but very helpful addition.
    [09:02] Sound quality is a key factor, and it's great to hear that the HS80 delivers a pleasant and full sound signature. The inclusion of Dolby Atmos for headphones is a nice touch for supported games.
    [11:09] Thanks for your honest review, Dmitry. It's clear that Corsair made some improvements with the HS80, but there are still areas where they could do better. I hope your replacement for the Cloud 2 Wireless arrives soon and meets your expectations.
    [11:35] Looking forward to your future reviews! Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing your insights. - Dmitry

My kitchen is 4 steps from my PC setup, and I cant even go to the fridge without constant beeping and audio cutting out.

    Sue me but I don't like the adjustable microphone arms. My favorite part about my Sennheiser is that it's in the perfect spot every time, you never have to worry about breathing in the mic or the pickup distance being too far away. As long as the company put the microphone in a good spot, it really doesn't need to be adjustable. I feel like that's a weird thing for the video to harp on so many times when the microphone clearly sounds fantastic at its fixed position.
