I like his work. But. He mostly reviews gaming headsets. Most gamers don’t really care about sound quality. And audiophile community does not care about gaming headsets.
One thing I LOVE about my (wired) HS80 headset (among a few other things) is that they DON'T use that horrible "leatherette" material for the pads. That crap just peels off within a year.
You're the only one so far that mentioned the headset now saving the eq settings to the headset itself which is likely a deal breaker for me so thank you.
I’ve had the original HS80 for almost 2yrs now, I love it, but I’m ready to upgrade. I’m a PS5 gamer don’t use a PC, so what’s the best headset to use with the PS5? Is the HS80 worth getting if you have the original? What headset you recommend for PS5
I just got the hs80 max (primarily for remote work) and I have to say that there is a lot of great qualities on these headphones especially with the addition of the software, you can really dig in to it and build a great eq sound that fits your needs. I am on Mac so I wasn’t able to use the Dolby atmos sound but I can say that not using these headphones for PC would be underusing them heavily. If you just play ps5, you might hear some sound improvement but without the extra software to eq it, I’d say stick with your hs80
Just found your channel doing research on this headset, and I've got to say I really enjoy your format and explainations. Keep up the good work and I'll definitely keep checking your stuff out. You've got a great formula, dude. These are on sale at my local store, so I think I'll get them for $40 off.

I think what I most appreciate about your videos.. is the lack of dust/debris from product shots. It feels very professional. I mean the earcups are like lint magnets but you somehow were able to show em without a speck of dust. Mad props.
Hello! I love your reviews, but i have hearing loss, and i need a headset to be a little bit louder than the basic ones, can you tell me if those sound powerful? I would love too that you include this mesaueement on all reviews if you can, thank you!
Its always great to watch new tech! However have just moved from the Nova wired to the Maxwells based on your review… and I’m blown away! Keep up the great content!!
Hey something that I rarely see people (you included) cover is how many devices can be paired, and what the multipoint behaviour is. Those features are really important to me.
I would have loved to test this part out but I do not have enough wireless Corsair devices to accurately test this. I'd hate to give out incorrect information. So sorry!
@@GadgetryTech I mean Bluetooth devices, like tablets and phones. For example, the Audeze Maxwell can be paired to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously and connected at the same time, although you only get audio from the one that's playing last. That kind of information would be useful.
Funnily enough his review for the corsair virtuoso wireless rgb xt covered this and is what made me buy that headset. I.e. can use it on aux/usbc+ wireless at the same time
Would you recommend the hyperx cloud alpha over the hs80 max? I couldn´t quite understand, am I still able to use the hs80 max while its charging? Awesome video btw!
Subscribed. Great review and quality video. I really enjoyed the extra details so many other reviewers skip right over like the headsets range. There ARE times one needs to go visit a toilet, of swap some laundry around, or go outside and mow the lawn. (The last one is a Sennheiser HD350BT while playing music on an ipad from inside the house.)
Hey, amazing review. I purchased these and you’re right. They aren’t the best for FPS (MW3) style. I don’t get that deep sound with footsteps! Maybe I’ll try your EQ. You find it best with atoms turned on for FPS? I am contemplating switching to the Steelseries nova 7 instead.
I had a problem with the original HS80. It felt like an unfinished product with an update due. This is exactly the update I anticipated. No USB support is weird, and I wish they would increase the sidetone range, but the extended wirelss range and addition of BT is exactly what the original version was missing! Simultanious connection would just put it over the top, but oh well. I am still glad I waited. Regarding the sound prfile, I welcome the non-exagerated nature of it. I am someone who uses headset for work calls and you-tube reviews (whink-whink) while doing the busy work, so Steele-series needed to be EQed down significantly for podcasts and other non-FPS gaming needs. I also like that Corsair does volume synnc with 2.4 and BT. It is wery annoying on most headsets to have to adjust it on the device itself. Overall, great headset for most people, I believe!
Awesome deep dive into these! Glad to see a comparison of the mic before and after the firmware update. Question on the Dolby Atmos EQ: Is there a reason you have the surround virtualizer off? I was under the impression that's how you get the Atmos spatial effect, but maybe it's an extra layer on top of that? Thanks!
It's more of a preference thing to be honest. I've done better in FPS games with virtualizer off, but I occasionally use it for single player/casual games.
I’ve been searching for a new headset for about two years but haven’t found anything that checks all the boxes for me and it’s frustrating. I’m still using my Corsair HS70’s. But I’ve tried the Virtuoso, Steel Series, Razer, and most recently HyperX Cloud III (which I absolutely loved based on your video recommendation but didn’t realize how important sidetone volume adjustment was for me, cause I would be yelling without hearing my own voice lol).
Yay thanks for the review! Do you think this is better than the Blackshark Pro 2023 edition? Also I have kind of a big head (almost size 8 hat) do you think this would work for me?
I think a size 8 head SHOULD be okay, but it also depends on yoru head shape. The BlackShark v2 Pro 2023 may fit slightly better. Both are great, and I honestly go back and fourth on a top pick between them. If you want more of a V-shape with strong bass, the Blackshark is better. If you like a flatter/smoother sound, go with the HS80 Max.
@@GadgetryTech thank you so much for your thoughts. I find it odd also that the HS80 Max doesn’t work with the Switch via dongle? I like that you can also carry over EQ with the Blackshark. But man, flip to mute mic is so convenient
@GadgetryTech for some reason I find the base stronger/better sounding on the hs80 max than the BS 2023. It just sounds more full and rich compared to BS
Yeah so I just picked these up and while they are nice, they are definitely a little tight on my head. I am not sure if that is going to loosen up after while, but if not, will probably go with BS 2023. Also, these oddly don’t work with a Switch dock via USB dongle.
Good information! I've been using the cheaper Corsair Void Elite wireless and was looking for an upgrade to compliment my system. I'm a FPS guy, too so it means a lot to hear and see what headsets are pulling their weight.
Yo I have a question about this headset. Does the headset save your volume settings on console after powering off and on or does it just default back to the highest volume you set on the console?
got this headset, i had the maxwells, nova pro wired and wireless and also the blashark v2 2023. and this one is by far the best one in my opinion. sound is amazing, and the mic is amazing. that’s all i cared about. and it’s super comfy with wicked cushions
What do you like bout the HS80 Max's sound vs the Maxwells? Obviously it's subjective, but Maxwells are meant to be balanced with great detail. And most "gaming" headsets are boomy or have boosted mid bass with "meh" treble clarity.
@@PHYLOgg well to be honest the maxwells sounded great also. but really couldn’t tell a different, the hs80 max is louder, more detailed for me and just sounds so much clearer. they both sound great but i ended up returning the maxwells because they were so heavy and hot. gave me headaches
Honestly in my experience personally the Maxwell is a lot better. Much more detailed. He's right that the HS80 gets louder but the Maxwell gets loud enough to go beyond safe listening volume levels anyway, so I think it's hard to count that against the Maxwell. The HS80 is quite flat sounding out of the box, not too exciting, and not especially detailed. EQ helps but it really only takes you so far as the fairly run of the mill dynamic drivers in the HS800 are just not that exciting. @@PHYLOgg

Thanks for the review pardner, I bought the original HS80 wireless on your rec, and I like them for all the reasons you do. But in the six months since buying two of them (one for me and another for a friend), I've already had to request two replacement earpads. Not to mention the signal dropping issues that are worse than expected. Unfortunately, I don't think the better battery and worse mic are worth the extra cost, and having to gamble on if the previous gen issues have been fixed.
Hi, it’s sad that you are not talking and measure the best feature of this headphones : the soundID collaboration. You can tune them to studio reference then adjust by your preference and ear’s loss (first is the more important). SoundID on android and sonarworks on PC are amazing.
2:10 😂😂 "i swear i can speak english" I am dying 😂 that's me every time i open my mouth tho😅 Thank you btw. for being honest in every review and especially taking the time. I really appreciate it, one of the best review channels.
The mic does sound better after the firmware but, it still sounds robotic or lispy, the old hs80 is completely clear, plus i play with a guy every day that returned the max because of this and went back to the original.
Thank you. Do you recommend it for watching movies on PC? I've been using HS70 for watching movies but the battery life, range issues, and the annoying beeping makes it so that I never use it for anything else.
I find the HS80 more comfortable. Both aren't amazing across the board, but I can wear the HS80 Max longer. A30 has simultaneous BT and custom EQ which is nice though, so it depends on what you prefer
Thanks! Lol I alternate with M&K or controller depending on the game. I'm better with movement on a controller for games like CoD but sometimes I play M&K just to switch it up
I'm looking to get a new headset soon. I've had the old Rig800 HD from 2017, and they have been amazing up until about 3 months ago. The mic has started getting fuzzy and very sensitive with the flip up mic mute sometimes activating when the mic is moved slightly. The comfort and quality of the Rig 800 has had me looking at the Rig 800 Pro HD. Would you recommend these over the Rig 800 pro. The Mic quality on these, is really appealing to me.
Hi Joe another great review thanks for your time I play on PS5 only and I'm currently using the audeze Maxwell and the. Thanks! Logitech apparently released an update where you can save to the onboard DAC now! It's a happy surprise for sure, so you should be able to customize it to your liking. With that being said, I think you'll be happy with it!
Is this a suggested Atmos tune for the HS80 Max or a revised for the HS80 as well? i noticed in the HS80 vid you mentioned putting Atmos into detaild mode, i cannot find that option
Hey bud hope you are well? Looking for some advise, looking for a good wireless headset for sim racing and cant decide between this or the corsair virtuoso rgb wireless xt. Any advise would be greatly appreciated
hmm, can you do a wired mic test for this headset? I bet it'd sound even better no? oh and also I've taken a closer look at your old hs80 reviews and surprisingly the mic sounds better than the new one. I wonder is it because of the noise suppression thingy in the iCue? software
My old Stealth 700 Gen 2(not max) just cracked by the ear part, Not sure if I want something like this that clearly has a great mic or the Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max
Thanks for the video! Great information. I have the Logitech g pro x wired headset, I tried the new g pro x 2 and I legit heard no difference in sound quality on call of duty. I play on console so no eq adjustments straight out of the box. I’m gonna stick with my wired g pro x. I’m glad you made this video, extremely helpful
Man, i dont know, but those latest corsair headsets all virtuosos and those HS80 need to be EQ'd the hell out of them to get a decent sound, which beats the purpose of buying them, good sound is something that should come out of the box.
The Corsair virtuoso xt's are now the same price as the hs80 Max at $180. Which one is better at that price? I have very beginner knowledge when it comes to this stuff, but i feel like the hs80's are over priced
Update. Keeps disconnecting from ICUE and shutting of features. Still works but annoying. No fix as of now and tried everything. Excellent Headset. Wanted a light weight headset for Helldivers 2. Returned PS5 Pulse Elite Wireless for HS80 Max. Much as I like my Audeze Maxwell, it's to heavy for longer times. HS80 Max sound quality above avarage. Build quality and Weight is perfect. HS80 Max or HS80 has the perfect blend
I had these for 2 Days I almost cut my wrist trying to fix icue so I can update this Headset toke 4 Hours I got them for 120€ brand-new so that calmed me down a little bit but im getting SteelSeries after that
I play casual gaming while working from home taking calls, is this headset good for taking calls? Like compared to work headsets like jabra or plantronics
What headset would you recommend for ps5 were you can change stuff with just using a app as i dont have a pc. Basically the best headset straight out of the box i got my friend the corsair hs55 for Christmas he seems to like them. But i want the best so your advice would be grateful thank you.
With slight differences in price based on black friday sales , which WIRED headset would u recommend between G Pro X , HS80 and the cheapest being Razor V2 X , for ps5
Update: So I got the hs80 max went home, put it on, and found out my head is too big to leave it on comfortable on my head........ bummer :(. Will order the wick cushions to see if they help. If not, I'll try the steelseries nova 7x.
That's tough! I think the Virtuoso still has a slightly cleaner sounding mic, but both are excellent. I can wear the HS80 MAX for longer periods of time, and the mic is still better than almost everything else on the market.
@@minhn2888 Yes, I have them, what I like is that it sounds very good, the battery lasts a long time (I use it for more than 10 hours a day and without problems), my friends tell me that they hear me better than before (before I used void pro). What I don't like is that they are not comfortable so I had to buy pads on Aliexpress and problem solved.
I've been thinking to buy blackshark v2 pro 2023 for my ps5 but I can't find anyone testing the mic quality on the console and I keep hearing many people experience white noise. Do you think hs80 max is a better option?
I tried them, sound was fine, I got them for the mic and everyone said that my g pro x wired with ice pop mic sounded better so I returned the new black sharks
So IF I turned off the RGB (with softver I guess) does it stay that way without running the softver? Or you should run the software all the time even for that? Missing the built in memory always scares me away tbh.
Good evening, I know this is an older video, but I am pretty sure on my original HS80 pair when I press in the volume wheel I do get I believe 4/5 different audio presets(beeps) that I believe all do have a distinct sound, so are you 100% sure that the preset eq's don't work on Playstation? I´ve the JBL Quantum 910, but i want other headsets with the same quality of sound that this one offer me, will this corsair offer that quality? i know that the mic is better than JBL but that feature is not a game changer for me.
That FR graph looks horrible. Not your doing. Just commenting that the Max seems to have a terrible default tuning. Mids and treble is where a lot of game detail is and it also greatly effects soundstage. I can't believe Corsair would ship something with such terrible tuning. Awesome job with the video as always though!

Thank you btw. for being honest in every review and especially taking the time. I really appreciate it, one of the best review channels.
Lol yeah, some of my cuts in the past have removed some big blunders before haha. Thanks so much for the kind words. I try to be as honest as I can!
Your preset really helped with the audio quality. The default was too dark and veil
@gadgetrytech. I’m torn between HS80 Max and the Astro A30. I’m just a PS5 player. That’s all I need them for. What do you recommend.
I find the HS80 more comfortable. Both aren't amazing across the board, but I can wear the HS80 Max longer. A30 has simultaneous BT and custom EQ which is nice though, so it depends on what you prefer
Whats better for fps the corsair hs80 max or razor blackshark v2 pro 2023
is the mic worse then on the HS80 non max ?
Great review, once again. Thanks 👍🏻
Btw, who plays fps games, on a pc, with a controller? That is a bit weird.
Logitech pro x 2 wireless I've just ordered these for PS5 I know you can't tweak the sound for PS5 only PC do these sound good enough for PS5 for games and movies or do you think I made a bad decision what's your opinion for PS5 only thank you Joe stay safe and happy gaming
I might pickup these since the razer blackshark v2 pro's were huge disappointment for me due to terrible white noise.
Great video as always. Is there a link to those headphone stands that you use in these videos?
Thanks so much! amzn.to/3si8cSZ
Hey bud hope you are well? Looking for some advise, looking for a good wireless headset for sim racing and cant decide between this or the corsair virtuoso rgb wireless xt. Any advise would be greatly appreciated
black shark v2 pro 2023, hs80 max Which one do you like better? I play various games such as fps
hmm, can you do a wired mic test for this headset? I bet it'd sound even better no? oh and also I've taken a closer look at your old hs80 reviews and surprisingly the mic sounds better than the new one. I wonder is it because of the noise suppression thingy in the iCue? software
The new HS80 Max does not work as a wired headset anymore. Only the old HS80 did. The mics sound identical to me when I A/B them on the same machine
Do those EQ presets save on the headset now? So That I can use them on the ps5 too?😊
I just bought this Headset yesterday, How can I tell if it is charging or not when I plug it in? There anyway I can see what its battery life is at?
My old Stealth 700 Gen 2(not max) just cracked by the ear part, Not sure if I want something like this that clearly has a great mic or the Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max
Thanks for the video! Great information. I have the Logitech g pro x wired headset, I tried the new g pro x 2 and I legit heard no difference in sound quality on call of duty. I play on console so no eq adjustments straight out of the box. I’m gonna stick with my wired g pro x. I’m glad you made this video, extremely helpful
So glad you found it helpful! Thanks!
Corsair makes good headsets.Hopefully they will release their flagship soon
When are you going to review the AceZone A Rise headphones? I'm waiting for it since I saw the previous one
They are hand built! Mine is almost ready for shipment, so I should have it soon! Trust me, I'm excited too!
Man, i dont know, but those latest corsair headsets all virtuosos and those HS80 need to be EQ'd the hell out of them to get a decent sound, which beats the purpose of buying them, good sound is something that should come out of the box.
So with the Logitech G733 the head band gets stretched out in a couple months, I would love to know if this happens with the HS80 as well
The Corsair virtuoso xt's are now the same price as the hs80 Max at $180.
HS80 Max or HS80 has the perfect blend
wish it was simultaneous bluetooth man.... i guess i gotta go with the VIRTUOSOS XT's
I had these for 2 Days I almost cut my wrist trying to fix icue so I can update this Headset toke 4 Hours
I got them for 120€ brand-new so that calmed me down a little bit
but im getting SteelSeries after that
I play casual gaming while working from home taking calls, is this headset good for taking calls? Like compared to work headsets like jabra or plantronics
How would you say the quality of the mic compares to the Epos/Sennheiser PC38X?
I like those more simply because they aren't constrained by wireless. They sound a little more natural.
Is the firmware is increasing the quality on PS5 also?
For Atmos, is there a way we can get the lines to show? Makes it easier to match if I can see the lines.
does the mic automaticly mute if you take the mic stick up?
now question is, virtuoso or hs80?
What headset would you recommend for ps5 were you can change stuff with just using a app as i dont have a pc. Basically the best headset straight out of the box i got my friend the corsair hs55 for Christmas he seems to like them. But i want the best so your advice would be grateful thank you.
would this work with steelseries gamedac?
Wait so is there a difference between using custom EQ in dolby atmos and in the corsair app or not ?
With slight differences in price based on black friday sales , which WIRED headset would u recommend between G Pro X , HS80 and the cheapest being Razor V2 X , for ps5
Did u get anything?
whats the name of the headphone stand at 0:15 ?
If you had to choose between this or the maxwell?
It's a touch choice! The Maxwell is a better headphone overall, but it's almost double the price. It's up to you if it's worth the difference or not.
In the end had to choose between the nova 7 and the h8 max. Choose the max hope it will be good ;)
Update: So I got the hs80 max went home, put it on, and found out my head is too big to leave it on comfortable on my head........ bummer :(. Will order the wick cushions to see if they help. If not, I'll try the steelseries nova 7x.
Hi, which one is better for gaming and teleworking (customer calll)?, HS80 MAX or Virtuoso XT?
That's tough! I think the Virtuoso still has a slightly cleaner sounding mic, but both are excellent. I can wear the HS80 MAX for longer periods of time, and the mic is still better than almost everything else on the market.
Thank you very much for answering, I'll go for virtuous xt
Did you get the virtuoso XT yet? If so how do you like them? What don’t you like?
@@minhn2888 Yes, I have them, what I like is that it sounds very good, the battery lasts a long time (I use it for more than 10 hours a day and without problems), my friends tell me that they hear me better than before (before I used void pro).
What I don't like is that they are not comfortable so I had to buy pads on Aliexpress and problem solved.
@@lDayrelare you using the virtuoso XT on pc or ps5?
Has anyone heard anything on the Sony pulse 3d elite? Release date? Difference from the original pulse 3d? Might be too soon
Can you compare the sound quality to the EPOS H6 Pro? I am really can not choose. Is the H6 Pro sound much better?
H6pro sounds better
@@GadgetryTech I have ordered it already. The clamping force scared me away from the HS80. Thank you for your great work!
Was hoping the new one had more head adjustment :(
Same! Telescoping yoke of an inch or somethin would have been perfect!
I feel they do work.
@@TrekBuilder all good! I also recognize your name from multiple other video comments. Thanks for you support. The built in ones will work, but any custom ones you make do not save to it sadly.
Hey, thanks for the reply. You make great content, and I've been collecting headsets now for, oh man, over a decade now. Thanks for the clarification. I interpreted what you said in the review as no presets work on console, but I understand. Thanks again, and I love your channel!!
@@TrekBuilder no problem! Your name stood out because I rode Treks all the time growing up haha. I bought my son a Trek now as well
I´ve the JBL Quantum 910, but i want other headsets with the same quality of sound that this one offer me, will this corsair offer that quality? i know that the mic is better than JBL but that feature is not a game changer for me.
how is it compared to the maxwells ?
Maxwells are definitely better overall, but they cost almost twice as much so they should be. Both are good options for the money.
This was a very in-depth review, thank you so much! Do you have a Dolby Atmos tune for the VZR Model One per chance that you enjoy using?
Hi guys, do you recommend this headset for Ps5? Asking because you can change the sound settings form pc software…
In no way does the mic sound like the old one with the new firmware
can the hs80 max do 96kh with atmos or dts-x? every time i try it sets it to 8 channel with spatial sound off in sound settings.
Hi, can I ask a question. If I put a ps4 copy of truck driver into my ps5, will the thrustmaster t248 be compatible or no?
Thank you so much for ur help!
lol took me so long to find a range test finally
I wish I had a database of them all. Maybe one day!
can it use for phone and playstation or pc at the sametime?
Unfortunately no, only one at a time.
I must have missed it but does it have sidetone?
yes it does, just not great. I discuss it during the mic test section of the review
@@GadgetryTechThanks, im looking for a lightweight headset that will be my alt headset since it is difficult for me to use the maxwell for long gaming sessions. What would you recommend? I dont play competitive fps games so foot steps position is not that important for me.
Best review.
Mic is worse than on hs80 tell me if im wrong.
Nope, it does save on a headset and no need for iCue to be running for presets, had it on my old void wired headset.
I need to connect my hs80 to my windows 10 monitor but i have no usb outlets on my monitor. What can i do??
Is this “monitor” an all-in-one computer? If not, you will have USB ports on the computer that is connected to the monitor.
@AlexTurbo I tried that. I plugged it into the tower itself but then only the PC could detect the headset and not the PS5. and when I plugged it into the PS5 the OBS Studio on my PC couldn't detect the headset. 😭 😭
@@ytuser4597 oh yeah, the headset only connects to the device that the dongle is plugged into unfortunately
@@AlexTurbo do you know any headset I can get that could connect to both the PC and PS5 at the same time?
@@ytuser4597 The BlackShark V2 Pro has simultaneous dongle and Bluetooth connections. But if you’re doing it to use the mic on PC, I suggest an external mic.
Btw the 15% link on amazon is not giving the discount. Its still $179
The discount is for the cushions only.
@@cgrf45The link points me to the headset and not the WC pads.
@darkblade088 check a bit further down in description. I checked the links and they work. Hope that helps!
What monitors u using
U should have links to ur set up so I can buy em
On your previous video you were also talking about dolby access and that if you own the hs80 you get hardware activation or something and I bought 2 of them (hs80 wired) for my 2 best friends and can't quite figure out how to activate dolby access for headphones even if we tried whatever reddit suggested.
It always forces you to buy or try the free 7 day period.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you
Think just the wireless version got it for free.
Unfortunately they only include Atmos on the wireless HS80 models. Sorry!
You can still purchase and use Atmos btw - it's just not included with the headset.
