How does it not? He was asked on how South Korea's treatment of women compare to other countries and he went to the absolute extremes (Iran and Afghanistan) to make it look good.
He’s pointing out countries that actually treat women unfairly. But I suppose when you think everything that doesn’t work out perfectly is just you being oppressed, then real oppression being experienced elsewhere doesn’t really move the needle for you.

@armartin0003 lol. Your ideals got me labeled a creep and harrasser of women even though I never did anything wrong. It was women who actually " harrassed" me. They are the ones who were kinda relentless in their flirting. Funny how at the end of the day, the thought of them being creeps or harrassers never seems possible in the minds of people, but with me, an innocent man,- it's on record even though no such evidence exists. Talking about north america, europe, etc, basically anyplace where women have the same rights as men.
If he was going to play whataboutery, he could have pointed to North Korea. I wonder what that says of his opinion about the rights of women in North Korea?
But it's not equality/equity cause there is still a hierarchy those men will get theirs and go on as usual most of this are men who couldn't compete in any of these times. It's affirmative action from loser men.
A lot of these guys who don't like feminists are just clout chasers. They see women who are upset. And they see this as an opportunity to harass them for fun. In their heart, they see women as inferior. Or as objects. And they've done this same thing to other men who aren't "macho" as well.
The fact that they already felt sexually harassed when a woman bring up toilet etiquettes shows exactly how they've never been sexually harassed before.
The fact that he thinks the woman telling men to take more showers and pee with the door closed is sexual harassment... I mean it wasn't a very intellectual statement but please, this man wouldn't survive 24 hours as a woman if he's insulted by that. Maybe talk again after you've been groped and threatened in public without anyone lifting a finger to help you. Or after you've been harassed by a coworker to the point you dread going to work. Then let's talk again about what sexual harassment is and who are the emotional ones.
I think there two aspects One is women actually going though it and other is a false claim. The one who committed should be in jail, but the false cases should be stopped.
The fact that they called them freaks when the women asked them to be more considerate and civil in public/unisex spaces and then when the women are offended by it they act like they didn't do anything wrong and the women were too emotional and couldn't hold a conversation . If you want to have a respectful and honest conversation with someone may be start by not calling them names and instead try see from the other person's point of view.
Why are there unisex bathrooms in the first place? Why should men change what we do simply because women don't like it? Why should we allow women to dictate our behavior based on their emotional state?
The woman wasn't even being aggressive you can tell it was his own insecurities . He started telling people not be aggressive when they where only trying to add their opinions.

They don't care about women's wellbeing, only concerned with how many babies they can pop out - to keep the system going, more lending for banks, more people to sell diapers and baby formula to, more home/car loans, and so on...

as a korean adoptee, i know first hand how korean society views women. i learned that single mothers in korea are about the most stigmatized group of people in the country. theyre basically seen as 2nd class citizens, esp. compared to single fathers. to the point where they have a whole np organization dedicated to supporting them called KUMFA. since 1990, 90% of "orphans" in korea arent parentless at all. they simply have a single mother. and whether they were widowed or their husband left or they were just a boyfriend or fling or whatever, it doesnt matter. Even with abusive partners, they may encourage the woman to stay or get married to them if they have a child. if a women doesnt have a man around their arm, the child is viewed with disdain and oftentimes family relatives will sneakily take the baby when the mother isnt aware and secretly bring them to an orphanage where they're cut off from their family line forever. the mom can spend years and years desperately searching, but the baby is already overseas with new parents. and adoption agencies will straight up lie to couples that the child is an "orphan" or that the mother "wanted to give them a better life" when in reality, the child was basically trafficked. sometimes hospitals will even take the baby right after birth, taking advantage of the mothers state, and secretly bring them to an orphanage. and then if the adoptee wants to find the mom? well, too bad, because usually the child, if theyre on the family registry still, will have to go through the father to find them, since its a patriarchical system. and sometimes that father is reluctant to say anything or even admit the child is their dna child, like the case with Kara Bos in 2020. and then also oftentimes the mom cant see the child anyway because her new family will look down upon her for having a child out of wedlock.
A while back, I read a graphic novel memoir of a Korean girl who moved with her mom to the U.S. during the 1990s because the stigma of single motherhood was SO strong in South Korea.

As heartbreaking as this is, this isn’t surprising. People here have to understand how SK society is where it’s at today. After the Korean War and the country was in shambles, the sole priority that emerged was improving its standing on the global stage. Naturally, the only metric that SK would use to gauge this progress is the state of its economy. As a result, they only obsessed over economic results, numbers, and rankings. In doing so, they neglected the social well-being and health of its people. Basically, SK grew up too fast physically but not emotionally/mentally. So to men, they believe their perspective on entrenched norms and their privileges aren’t out of place. But in order for society to move forward, discussions like these have to take place. So while it seems really sad to see gender conflicts right now, I see it as a critical first step to getting the ball rolling
Very well said! As a Korean American your insight is refreshing. I would like to add, this is not a young country, it has an ancient history where men were always elevated above women. I hope for the sake of all men and women we will be able to understand each other soon.
As someone from a country that's often lumped tgt with SK, Japan, Taiwan, etc. as having an East-Asian developmental model, I somewhat agree with this take but I would like to highlight that this is severely depoliticised view of history. What is the reason that these countries had a lot of "economic progress" but no "social progress"? Because for most of their history, they were authoritarian/semi-authoritarian dictatorships where democratic and social movement were annihilated, and activists were targeted and even killed. How come not many people bring this up? Because these dictatorships were backed by the US/the West... In the beginning of the video the feminist march is holding a banner with two slogans, one about women's rights, one about the length of the working day. Because misogyny is not just an issue of holding on to old patterns, it is fueled by male anxiety that's captured by neoconservative movements. Even today, Japan and South Korea rely extremely heavily on traditional patriachal models to handle needs such as childcare, care of the elderly, aka the woman stays home or works AND takes care of the household. However, this is basically untenable today. It's basically a similar story to the West, when men feel powerless due to economic precarity and losing the traditional role of dominating over their wife, they lash out at women...
The ministry of gender equality is the one responsible for the declining birth rates? I lived in SK for a few months, and every guy and girl I talked to said that they can't even begin to imagine thinking of being married and starting a family when rent alone has doubled in the past 5 years, while wages have stayed relatively the same and the job market has shrunk because of covid and global economic downturn. It seems to be the exact same problem in japan. Maternal leaves are a bit of a joke, paternal leaves are unheard of You have to pay a fortune to live in a tiny apartment in a major city. Imagine trying to do that with kids and a spouse. In this day and age, even two incomes in some countries/cities aren't enough to raise kids. Maybe if these governments addressed that, they would be able to raise the birth rates atleast a bit
Gender equality is just a cog in the machine of the Globalist agenda my friend. This kind of economic instability is happening all over the world in order to weaken countries' ability to sustain themselves. Japan was the first to fall.
Real estate pumping goes hand in hand with feminism in industrial societies. the result isn't very cheerful for human beings in general. korean feminists don't see through this that they are bieng made into working bees. they are just happy to see some status and be spiteful for men. apparently this has got so bad in korea that there was a massive backlash. good for them.
The last line "My greatest fear is that men and women lose their gender identities, and end up being identical apart from their genitalia" (14:21) encapsulates the primary issue perfectly. You can easily draw logical connections to every single issue with traditional masculinity and anti-feminism (even when not under those labels) from this fear alone. In my opinion, quelling this fear in young men and understanding its causes is a big part the way forward. I would have loved to see Hanako press further on the logic behind the fear itself, but this was great reporting and I applaud the choice to approach the topic with a larger focus on the feminist opposition.
Feminists seem to have an issue with everything traditionally masculine. That is the problem most men have with them. Every time there is a social issue, feminists are always blaming “men”, “the patriarchy”, “toxic masculinity”, or “traditional masculinity”. In other words, men! Women as a group are hardly ever handled accountable for some of the issues we currently have. Hence, we are tired of being made to feel like villains for things most of us are not responsible for.
I believe the fear is the expectation and treatment of men in relationships nowadays. We are expected to be earn a significant income, be emotionally available yet unbreakable, be always dedicated to our partners happiness meaning all our free time is their time. That has been my experience during my last 3 relationships. One was a very long one. Heck even for child custody and government support. The 3 friends in my circle give the cheque to their ex spouse. Two gave up completely not by choice on getting joint custody. They reluctantly accepted 1 weekend per 2 weeks. Misleading narratives or outright false accusations were brought against them. The other guy took a loan out after being with his ex spouse for 4 or 5 years to pay all her debts. She left him within a month of the loan being taken by him. He had to fight to have her make payments on the loan. She did not pay the majority of the loan. There are some amazing women in this world. My mother, sister in law, grandmother and cousins. All of them are honest, proud, strong, intelligent and hard workers. Sadly nowadays I witness more stories of a woman taking advantage of those with no recourse or say. Also some men who mistreat women too. I lost an aunt to such a coward. So in my opinion there is a social issue. Men are considered more as labourers. I understand a child is not conceived by only one and in the past many women were left penniless. Still no dad (not on drugs, alcohol, not violent, no criminal records, no domestic reports or anything except he has diabetes so he could maybe pass put though it has happened for 10 years) should not restricted from seeing their daughter because the mother is spiteful. Yet that is acceptable and commom nowadays. This is the reason these organizations are happening because some men feel mistreated in some cases rightfully so because of their gender. The same mother decided to move as far away as possible recently because my friend was finally given more visitation rights. It has been 3 years. He hold got 1 to 2 days every 2 weeks a year ago. He doesn't even fight or complain which days. Anyways there are some terrible people with no hearts or kindness in this world. Even in my family I have 2 aunts and 2 uncles that I struggle to even acknowledge at all due to their past actions.

Men are the problem of all these “privileges” if you or any man thinks what you just mentioned is discrimination then you have never been discriminated against in your life.
@@GaryHighFruit The reason there is a parking lot for women is because men have previously committed crimes targeting women in the parking lot, so to prevent crimes, a women's parking lot was created at the entrance where there is a lot of floating population, and even this rule is not really followed. Seats for pregnant women in the subway are also a pretense that most people do not adhere to. Korean women even nickname incel men “omega men” to mock incel men who sit in pregnant women’s seats to deliberately embarrass them. You are mistaken about the female-only pharmacy school. There is no pharmacy school, it is just a department in the women's college. Also, the reason why there is a women's university is because in the past, Korea was a culture where women were bound by patriarchy and could not receive education. Women's colleges are universities that were created to provide educational opportunities to such women and guarantee their right to education. And looking at deepfake crimes, sexual harassment, and sexual harassment crimes that occur frequently in schools these days, it is understandable that this is the reason for ostracizing men.

Especially the interview with that activist because every logic he brings up comes from the feminist narrative but he is completly unaware (the se*ual harrassment part, no doubt). It made me want to scream. I was born and raised in Korea but am living abroad now. The more I distance myself from my home country, the more I can see what a clusterfuck of a situation we are in. When women try to voice frustration about the very real misogyny that is omnipresent in every corner in the country, the whole society (I'm not talking about just men) just gaslights us that the problems lies on them, that they are already too privilieged and they are asking for too much, and it's discriminating men. The society nitpick every little thing and try to 'mathematically calculate' the equality like 50:50. A great example is always the military service. The common narrative is that if women want equality, they should go to the military. You can just tell by the fact that the word 'feminist' is used as an insult in Korea.
He wasn't unaware about the sexual harassment stuff, he was actually proving a point, specifically about how easy it is for women to claim sexual harassment

I was a feminist before too but after getting into relationship with my gf, now my wife, i realised how privileged i have been all of my life. She had to struggle to convince her parents to go to B-school (where we eventually met), has been molested in the past, has faced catcalling, slut shamed just to name a few. It was so dishearterning learning her side of the story and then i asked some of my female friends too and their experiences were very similar to my wife's. A lot more needs to be done for gender equality. Men who are against feminism are generally the people who have never gotten to listen to the other side of the story.
This is my issue with neo-feminism straight people will get triggered when they don’t want to admit their privilege how about you ask trans-women and queer women like lesbians tiger expierences you only referenced straight cisgendered women fake woke.
and feminists also never listen to the other side of the story, so whats your point? you're just spitting out bullshit and its pretty apparent you got your brain spilled by your gf
Bra ..... tell me those privileges. We'll be here waiting. Yeah thats right, there are non. Women, especially in USA took most of that power/freedom. Should I call it will? If that female colleague reports you to HR that you didn't do anything to her, has no reason, you're fired and jailed. Why don't you plan your counter argument, we're waiting
let the powers that be divide you from your brother or sister by telling you how they take a larger piece of the scrap, meanwhile they pick your pensions / retirement clean. The theme from 'Parasite' continues.
While you are right, I'm not ok with women and queer folk being killed at higher rates and treated as subhumans. Plenty of men who claim to be my brothers and comrades do that shxt too, and silence those affected in their own movements and affinity groups. Also don't wanna wait till after the revolution to be able to, say, get an abortion, just saying. In my experience, women and queer folk trying to fight next to men as equals, ARE STILL NOT TREATED AS SUCH by the men they choose to fight with. So cos you're also right, I'll keep fighting with men, but don't you forget, they often don't have my back as i have theirs.
I have heard and read many horror stories, from people I know too, about how minorities in general are treated as second class citizens. People of color being shamed in public, single mothers and their children being bullied by their own familes and women being assaulted and mistreated in every layer of life. At work, at home, in schools or on the street. Accounts of unsuspecting women being pulled into cars or clubs against their will is something I've heard of personally. Of course SK isn't going under in complete visible mayhem. But the effects of what is happening will lead to further negative consequences. And it's not like they are the only country pulling that kinda bullshit. It's all very saddening and unnecessary.

Do these south korean feminists also want females to enter compulsory military training? I mean, equal rights should also entail equal responsibilities right?
usually feminists prefer conscription to not exist for either men or women, because being cooped up with just guys for a year in the atmosphere of a bunch of male stereotypes often messes with the brains of 18 year old boys.
If conscription guarantees equal rights for women 100%, I will gladly accept it. But everyone knows that discrimination will continue for another reason even after women serve in the military.

As a korean man, i can say that not only men, but the whole society is tired of feminist movements held in every part of living. The cherry picking feminists are doing are literally going way over the arguing for women's right. Once, starbucks in sk had an event providing one free cup of coffee to korean military soldiers. The biggest women organization in sk stood up and blamed starbucks for being discriminatory as only men are obliged to go to the military, even though the word 'soldier' didnt even mean men. Starbucks apologized for it and the event was closed early. In south korea, there are parking lots for women, subway seats for pregnant women which are pretty much abused as women priority seat, men should serve military services, there are pharmacy school that only women can go which makes it hard for men to be pharmacist even with better PEET score, universities are forced to have women professors , female quota system in congress, companys and much more on. The problem is that, the starting line is same for all men and women in south korea. There are literally no law that discrimate one for gender. No social atmosphere that forces women to quit pursuing their dreams. but the finish line is much shorter for women. That's the current feminism in korea for whos wondering.

That woman saying she wanted men in unisex bathrooms to shut the stall door when they pee and then the man asking her why is she getting so angry is ultimate gaslighting behavior. They have a serious problem with men in S. Korea setting up spy cams in bathrooms and recording women in them. Of course he didn't mention it though because it's the men doing it. Japan has a similar issue.
Ministry of "Gender Equality" and Family is an official english name, but an actual name of the ministry in Korean is Ministry of Women and Family. I was wondering why there should exist one ministry that supports women and families. It seems that men or father are excluded.
I found it interesting that the law maker she spoke with chose to focus on the extreme end of gender inequality-places where gender inequality has been on the rise as a way to minimize what’s happening in their own country. Kinda like, “ well it’s not as bad as country x so be grateful” and I’ve heard this kind of argument a lot. It’s saying that equality is too much to ask for, and we interpret women being equal to men being at a disadvantage. This kind of thinking is almost like silent sexism or sexism that isn’t blatantly, “women weak, men better”, but is still there. All women want is a seat at the table where there’s obviously room but are being told it’s too high if an ask.
The problem is that women are approaching the situation in a very disingenuous way. The woman in the video who spoke about "civic" awareness blatantly disrespected men, then at the same time she made her propositions, didn't once consider the desires of men. So what women like her really want isn't fairness, it's for them to rebuild society in a way that caters to them.
"women want a seat at the table" .., it would happen once humanity adopts a full fledged technocracy.. governemnts of science directorates where knowledge rules. Because everyone can have knowledge. I know hormonal imbalances might affect a woman's ability to think and rationalize but when she is able to rationalize and be able to observe data to put forward for science.. that data is undeniably true and it can match in value with what men can provide. That's only when both women and men won't need to fight and die in wars, when both men and women won't need to do dangerous work that can result in fatalities. But for now we are headed back to how the human genus managed to survive. Men ruled over women and protected them from other enemy men. Simple as that.
What are the multi-variates for South Korea's pay gap between men and women? Are there laws against sexism in the workplace and in terms of pay? We know that in every developed country, the gender pay gap is often not related to sexism.

as a korean adoptee, i know first hand how korean society views women. i learned that single mothers in korea are about the most stigmatized group of people in the country. theyre basically seen as 2nd class citizens, esp. compared to single fathers. to the point where they have a whole np organization dedicated to supporting them called KUMFA. since 1990, 90% of "orphans" in korea arent parentless at all. they simply have a single mother. and whether they were widowed or their husband left or they were just a boyfriend or fling or whatever, it doesnt matter.

Fantastically articulated. I completely agree. As an American woman who lived in S Korea you can see this played out.

5:11 classic case of gaslighting. This man is so emotional and sensitive. He should smile a little.
@@flaviusfake271 that’s sounds like a problem with the family court system. Which needs to be reformed. In my country joint custody is automatically granted, if you want sole you have to prove why. Everyone wants to blame the problems of capitalism, such as recession, and the absolute requirement that we fill in the supposed labour gaps with new sources of labour while trying to underpay them - on everything and everyone except capitalism. Let's blame women for wanting equality in the workplace. Let's blame gays for having a marketable demographic. Let's blame liberals for the fact that an automobile requires a fraction of the man-hours to create than it did when the industry was at its peak. Let's blame conservatives for believing the lies that conservative politicians tell them about "bringing jobs back" while at the same time taking in money from the industries they surrender to regulatory capture. I saw the Korean news today about the employment restrictions for short haired women. I hope that Korean women will be employed and paid without discrimination😢
You could say ANY kind of person is being restricted. But the news chooses to highlight women.
In south korea,
* There are parking lots for women,
* subway seats for pregnant women which are used as women priority seats
* There are pharmacy schools just for women.
This is sexist discrimination. All this oppresses men.
There's a female quota system in congress, companies and much more.
@@GaryHighFruitok male, most of the “privileges” women have are a response to 1, companies refusing to hire women in the first place and even with these laws and rules women still get pushed out if the work place by men.
Second, any parking lot, busses, space you just mentioned exists because men have a problem with a*sulting women literally everywhere. Womens trains and parking lots got introduced after cases of men harming and r*ping women in them at such a large scale women were given their own.
Men are not victims of this s*it.
@@GaryHighFruit The women's quota system is always a system and is not followed. Rather, in the educational process where women become teachers with significantly higher grades than men, male teachers are selected through a male quota system.
If you find it hard to believe, search for major personnel positions in Korea right now. All people in important positions are men. Korea is a country where the names of new male actors appear in the credits before those of female actors with high careers, even if a drama is filmed right now. Is the Korea that oppresses men you are talking about the same country as the Korea I live in?

And with “soft giants are sweet” i meant strong men who are fairly soft from the inside, they’re truly the type of men who i see as strong as they don’t act all macho and arrogant to show over their masculinity and strength as they don’t have to boast and flow naturally. I myself believe that drafts everywhere should be abolished and that the fact that only men are expected to go through that is unfair and discriminatory, but i do still think war is more of a man’s game.

@14:23 he admits equality scares him. Probably because as a man, he benefits from the system as it is
Stop being silly. As a South Korean man he will be drafted by the system. It's the women who are benefited.
Ministry of "Gender Equality" and Family is an official english name, but an actual name of the ministry in Korean is Ministry of Women and Family.
I was wondering why there should exist one ministry that supports women and families. It seems that men or father are excluded.
I’m so glad my daughters aren’t like these women. They don’t realize they’re doing more harm than good and just being used as political pawns.
Calling something 'Reverse discrimination' is a strategy to keep oppression and reserve any progress made towards ending racism and sexism.
100% fact
Enjoy it while you can, this is the last generation of unchecked gynocrats.
She framing her questions like men have really wronged women since the beggining of mankind
Well looking back.. it was worse back then.
Ummm men have wronged women since the BEGINNING (learn to spell idiot). Wtf are you talking about?
@@elisaaguilar6423 The majority of men throughout history loved, cherished, and protected women. Countless generations of men AND women worked there fingers to the bone to get us where we are today. 2:36 The long blink showing her disgust. LOL.
There is no way women and men will ever be equal no matter what you do... that's the bitter truth.
Women should be at home taking care of the family while the man is doing his thing out there to provide for the family.
Why? Many women have careers and passions they would like to dedicate themselves to. Why is it that only men get to fulfill those roles?
