framers who know what they're doing are fantastic. can't tell you how many dead valleys here in Colorado I see up on roofs that are just miserable for ice damning and heavy rain. awesome job!
Hey, there's a few things about that roof design. #1 That's an expensive roof. #2 It's time intensive. #3 That took some serious skill to pull off. #4 It's a beauty; it will look great when finished
Why is the trade protecting this skill so much? The compound miter cuts are tricky. I would like to see a pro like you show us how to measure and cut the angles.
Shalom Matt This same concept I used to flow water in my concrete slabs We make an indent ion it he concrete known as a valley gutter to channel water from a to b
I was wondering if you needed some ideas for some content would you dad be willing to do an interview type video about how he got started and maybe how he managed to stay a float during the housing crashes and maybe his outlook on the industry today from when he started.
👋 Hello Matt Your grandfather invention tool it is an outstanding tool👏. It's, also part of 🦺 construction 🚧 history and valuable piece. 👍 Specilly a memorabilia for you & your family... Thank you for sharing that history treasure.🏅🏆 Sincerely, Mr Villalba 😎JV🇵🇷
Great job as always Matt! Just wondering why you don't use the G90 clips between your sheeting on the roof. With all the other Calif. building requirements, I'm surprised they aren't required. And thanks for answering my earlier question about the roof slope going into a vertical wall. God bless, stay well!
The sheeting under the first cricket was laid out different than the second. The first went 1/2 then full then 1/2 and seemed like more work. Secondly, in the bay area, we been shut down for over a week. No delivery and no city inspections.
The facia holding bracket looks very useful; generally for a single installer (smaller crew?), but can be used by all. I'm a new subscriber, so thanks for all the videos.
Great idea for hanging facia by yourself, might have to try it. Necessity is the mother of all invention. Alot of great tools have been invented by builders
Hey Matt, like that contraption tool (24:30) your grand-father came up with! If you don't mind I'll be holding on to that idea and might make one of my own.
Great build Matt, we are into our second week of complete lockdown here New Zealand ! your videos help pass some time ! All the best to yourself and family ! be safe, looking forward to finish of this project ! Bang on ! or is Lockdown on now..........

Nailing or tacking the osb too the roof do YOU Prefer staples or nails? and Y? On the roof do You still want the 1/8" space between sheets. As YOU do for the the sheeting the sides of A house. if not Y? Or What makes the difference OSB is OSB isn't it... thank YOU & haVe A bLessed Year...
Saw a guy balance the fascia with one hand from the middle. Use the nail clip magazine as a straight edge and nail the fascia right in the middle. Nail it on the next rafter and you are good to go. Well that answered my question about 'what is a cricket' from the last episode. Seeing it done makes the explanation easier to understand. A cricket here in Australia is a bug.
@@MattBangsWood I am not a builder so it was onto the computer to read the building code and Australian standards and I couldn't find anything about a cricket. Hey Matt, nice roof, when we start sheathing the roof I switch to the hitachi coil nailer , it holds way more nails than the stick nailer, just sayin. You guys stay safe out there :).
You made a great video, and you seem to be pushing your job right along. I just stumbled on your video, and am wondering about your roof nailing. I didn't see you guys spacing the OSB, nor using a flush nailer on your Hitachi. Are you guys just running the compressor at 100psi?
All of our guns are flush nailers, integrated to the gun, not the cheesy little attachments. NR83A5’s. We space when we nail, that’s why we hand drive it all. Space sheets 1/8” from one another, side to side and up and down. 😊
Huh I have the same gun, it is supposed to set for faster depth. But I have had nothing but problems. I had to re-shear an exterior wall and re inspect it. So I always roll with that "tacky" attachment as you called it. Hmmm I guess you have it all figured out bro. That must suck, having nothing left to learn
Good videos! I just started working as a carpenter. I’m in my 4th wk with the company that I work for. On Tuesday I got put on the roof , I learned a lot on these 2dys. My only problem is that I might now have the proper boots. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you in advance.
Matt, on the cricket framing, is it necessary to go to the edge of the wall your looking to save from water leaks. Looks like you have a foot or more from the wall edge.
Another great video thanks for sharing. Can you explain why you add an infill piece on top of wall plates between trusses? How is the roof vented at the sofits if it's closed?? Thanks
Arent you supposed to use galvanized nails for Fascia board? I like that rig to hang fascia. My pops used to band 2x10-24' all by himself and i would look at him from the ground thinking dayum! He did Fascia for 15 years and he gets weak when he see's someone else doing fascia the wrong way. Lol. Good times driving 20D galvies all day! I learned to drive nails like that lol. Be safe!!!
I guess the only difference is that we would drive them with a hammer and not a nail gun. It was a big no-no to drive galvanized nails on fascia with a nail gun. Keep up the good work!
I see now why you build the crickets later, it would make the trusses a nightmare! Will the house get roofed before work stops? I would be scared to death if my investment was getting rained on for who knows how long.
Totally worth it. Most platforms have worm-drive style saws and as long as you can keep batteries charged you’ll be able to cut all day and not have to worry about a single cord
Only get 1 cordless saw, there’s no need for more. 1 cordless will help you when you’re on a lift platform getting moved around so you don’t have to reroute power and especially when doing roof sheathing. I don’t use cordless saws for when I’m setup doing a lot of cutting, like for studs and anything else like that. Because they do chew up your battery’s and eat there life away. It’s also annoying recharging batteries
If you have a cordless impact or drill on a makita or Milwaukee or dewalt get the same brand to stay on the same platform so you don’t have different chargers or anything like that. All three of those systems I mentioned all have good cordless saws
Good video however is it not compulsory to have edge fall protection in your country? Having worked in Australia and northern Europe the site would be shut down if ran like this. Only takes one moment of not paying attention or a strong gust to wipe those guys off the roof.
