hi I'm from China and my name is Li. I watched the vlog video you posted on RUclips and really like this way of traveling. I also have a dream of living and traveling around the world. If you haven't posted it on Chinese video platforms, I will translate and upload your video to Chinese video platforms to share with more people. Do you agree? Of course, I will mark your RUclips account and video address. Looking forward to your reply.

Good morning Karl and Happy Late Birthday. I am writing to you today because I wanted to let you know that recently I had open heart surgery and all is good and I am recovering however, I wanted to thank you for your videos and what you do. I had my iPad with me all the time and while I was at The Cleveland Clinic my wife and I would watch only your videos. They provided us an escape and a way to journey from my hospital bed to parts of the world I never seen. This had made such a difference in our lives and my recovery. We would watch video after video and although it hurt to laugh it was well worth it. We hope to one day join you in your travels for that would be a dream come true. Thank you very much Karl and we are looking forward to your next adventure. Stay safe, may God Bless you and cheers my friend.
So interesting to hear you talk about your process! It's really cool how much thought you put into each different element that add up to such a compelling experience for the viewer :)
Nice explanation of the editing process. I see you well on doing more and more (live) tutorials and workshops. Also, what's crazy is that you actually know 20 more people who have 10k+ to spend on a trip (and some also have more to drunkenly splashing on a bidding to put hands on the boat steering wheel, as if being in Antartica itself is not enough). That bit was a mood killer.
Lekker Karl! Have been watching your videos since your "First time in Africa" 7 years ago and it's been a privilege to see your journey. It reminds me of SV Delos' epic journey they were sailing before they started a family. Thanks for making the effort in sharing your memories and taking the leap in doing it full time! From a cold Capetown, cheers mate!
Love the behind the scenes look. Was one of those wondering about the drone shots as have heard of the process scientists have to go through to fly there, never mind tourists! Fab series, took me back to so many special memories of my November 2019 trip. Your snow conditions etc looked very similar but we had even better weather for the six days between Drake Crossings
Thank you for the interesting behind the scenes. Each of your films is a highlight, but Patagonia/Antarctica was simply phenomenal. The storytelling, the images, the music 😍 I felt like I was there myself. Thank you for this journey to the end of the world (and all the other trips over the last 10 years).
Excellent video, great to hear you explain your craft and all the little details that went into making the film! Congrats on this milestone trip, its a long way from HK2NY to Antarctica!
Really enjoyed this, please create more, especially around the how you filmed and edited the trips. I'm planning on going away for a couple of years travelling in 2026 and want to record the trip, so it helps loads.
Great insights of how much work and afford goes into a video you create. Pulling my hat! You are really a master creator! Thanks for letting us be part of your incredible adventures through your work! Love it to the bits! 👍🙂 Cheers Jens
Unreal insight to your editing workflow! The map edit is beautiful, I hadn’t even thought it was just from a photograph when watching the original video 🤯🤝
LOOK AT THAT RING!!! 😍😍😍 Karl, you’re the shit and we love you and Mrs. Watson. Hoping to catch you in the real life soon! ❤ Your Seattle Besties, Mary and Erik
Love these extra vids! Just went to Patreon and realized I don't think i'm a Patreon anymore 🤷♂ I think I got a new CC. Anyway, thought I'd give the YT Members thing a try and see how that works out. Thanks for sharing this extra content!
Sorry @karlwatsondocs I missed the part where you say Paddy was on the tour. I watched his videos and he never mentioned it once or showed much of you in there so I didn’t know. Love the docs. Cheers
@@attagirltravelsyes he said that but he didn’t clarify he was part of the tour group or booked the trip through Karl. You watch Karl’s videos and you can see a lot of paddy in the group so makes sense but paddy’s video defiantly seemed like was join Michael on Michael’s trip
Loved the video. Thanks, Karl! It was great to know what goes behind your amazing videos. Just a suggestion: You can take bits from all the other footage, turn it into RUclips Shorts and publish them. As a marketer, I have seen firsthand how Shorts lead to more subscribers and views. Worth a shot, I guess.
Great video I always watch all the documentaries they feel like cinematic movies and I love them all. Just one question How do you organize and download all the footage for a good editing workflow in such a big project. I struggle with that as an editor.
I worked in Antarctica in 2000 before I could afford a digital camera. A different world, you have to overexpose film slightly or the ice looks grey. Slide film is very very sensitive to light and were not happy unless exposure was spot on. A few slide films didn't come out and some films snapped inside the cassette despite being under my coat. I guess even expensive US mil spec coats have limited protection at minus 70 windchill 😂😂
As someone who's leading to make youtube travel docs myself this was super helpful, where do you get the original vector maps from & how do you balance recording everything with taking time to take it all in?
The videos were amazing, but I was left feeling really disappointed with James. He obviously couldn't be bothered to get a personal video from Bryan Adams for you, despite it being your 40th birthday .... Fair play to you for not using this video to draw focus on how disappointed you must have been with him.
Great video, first time seeing your channel (my Antarctica algorithm sent me your way!) subscribed to see more travel, and more of these excellent, insightful travel video tips video. I was on Quark’s Ultramarine in Antarctica, a couple of months after you, what an experience, and yes, there’s a video!! ruclips.net/video/3KyojbPKyDs/видео.html

Of all videos I’ve watched about Antarctic cruises, this has been the best!
Thanks 😊
You created a story about storytelling--amazing! Story within story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Story is king”.
I enjoyed this whole series! Thank you so much for sharing! Antarctica is now on my bucket list!

I really enjoyed learning about your creative process in making the Patagonia and Antartica videos. Bravo!
You are an OUTSTANDING storyteller!!! The directing cinematography music edits ECT are SPECTACULAR.

I love the part about the music selection, so much taught put into it. Amazing!!!
Really enjoyed this as an insight in how you go about producing the best films on RUclips.
Thank you for taking us to Antarctica absolutely beautiful ❤️
I seen this ship tied up in St. John's, Newfoundland today. Passengers got lucky with a nice weather day which are rare here!!!
Your videos are very high quality with awesome and appropriate background music selection for that scene.
Thanks for sharing the tips. Your work is beautiful and wonderful storytelling.

'Assembly cut of videos, tropical house' - Karl just insulted all my travel videos 😮
😉🤷
no he just gave you 1000 0000 more views on your videos if you learn from his advice!
✋✋✋
1. Buy a projector screen.
2. Project stock footage of penguins, glaciers etc.
3. Wear a big coat.
4. Go "brrr" every now and again.
Great videos by the way!
Stoked for the South Korea video(s)! I'm head to South Korea in July
