    Very glad the modification with holes made such a significant weight reduction! Even more weight reduction could be realized with additional holes in the vertical support piece, as well as, router rounding the edges of all the holes. I just depends on the amount of time a subscriber wants to spend on their project and what tools they have available for their build. That's the beauty of using plywood instead of the heavy solid lumber pieces I see others using. Love the simplicity & functionality of this sleeping platform design.

      Hey Dennis, I agree. Thanks for your feedback I also like the second version of the chuck box and pantry box that fit nicely beneath the platform. Cheers.

    With the torrential down poor we had this weekend while I was up in Ardbeg, I could have really used this Sleeping/Camping Platform.
    I am going back in a few weeks, so I am just gonna have to make one of these. Thanks Dino.

      Hey JL Johnny, Make sure you make one of the window vents I show in my Platform Construction video(in the Tips Segment). ruclips.net/video/38elNgu8y5Q/видео.html I find that knowing at the end of the day that you're going to be in a comfortable dry sleeping location, very reassuring. The rear shelf brackets I made are very helpful as well, as it affords you a place to put important items, as seen in the following video Camping Equipment Test video. ruclips.net/video/3D8vVR1pQzs/видео.html. The chuck box in this latter video is version one, I made a version 2 that fits under the Platform now. ruclips.net/video/UllmlAl3-J0/видео.html. I hope this info helps out.

    I built your sleeping platform for my JKU last fall, and finally got it out for a test run a couple weeks ago. it worked really well for sleeping, and I think going forward, it's a good choice for solo camping. wife and I found getting in and out, while someone else was sleeping to be challenging. nothing like forgetting to turn off the dome light on door open at 3 am to inspire a brisk conversation!
    so big tip, turn off the dome light on door open ;)

      Ha ha...That's funny about the inspired brisk discussion!!!
      When I'm solo, I remove the 40% piece, as it provides an open area, and it's amazing how that helps getting in and out. I'm glad the platform is working out for you. Cheers.

      A 4 dr isn't a jeep, it's a moving van. Like the Zen master said to his pupil, when you can transform a 2 dr into a 4 dr you will have achieved nirvana. Clue.. learn the secret of flattening the pass seat to make a 6-4 bed. Only then will two doors rr-rock!

      Hey Jeff, Thats what I thought too, a few pounds here, a few pounds there, and it would add up to a lot of weight savings that you wouldn't have if you didn't even try. Thanks. Cheers.

    Eight pounds is a pretty good weight reduction. The individual panels will be that much easier to carry around, as well.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 года назад +1

      Hey Randy, The individual panels were in fact a little easier to carry around. The holes on the top panels also made them easier to lift up when I needed to look under them as well. Cheers.

      Hey torontofc1975,
      Thank you for the feedback on the video.
      I got my high density foam from "The Foam Store", www.thefoamstore.ca/
      I chose to go with 3", and am very happy with the comfort level.
      If the thickness was an issue, I think I could have gotten away with just 2" of the high density foam, but don't know for sure, as I didn't test that.
      I hope that helps.
      Cheers.

    Hey Dino, I am following you on this sleep platform very closely... Every tip you put is well used in my system...
    Great videos and to the point!
    Quick question, for drilling the vent holes on the platform, I see it is a holesaw, but never seen the type you are using with that larger "cap" holding the cut off piece so you can easily remove it. My holesaw is cylindrical and the cut off piece stays inside so I have to spend time to pry it out every time. Any chances you can tell us what kind/make/model is that bit you are using and where did you get it? Thanks in advance...

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 года назад

      Hey AloPandur, Thanks for following. The hole saw is ancient and I cannot determine the brand. The technique I used when cutting the holes was to cut “almost “ all the way through from one side then finish drilling through from the opposite side. This way the plug was not too deep into the bit. This helped in its removal. It still took some prying but I didn’t include those efforts in the video as I thought it would detract from the flow. Thanks again. Cheers.

    We camp in winter. Do the holes in the horizontal portion of the sleeping platform make it harder to stay warm while sleeping in cold weather?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  6 месяцев назад

      Hey Gary,
      Not at all. Our foam pad would eliminate any issue like that.
      Also, we've used a diesel heater when winter camping, which keeps us cozy. There are a few videos on that if interested. Have fun camping.
      Cheers.

    Where did you order the mattress pad at?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  6 месяцев назад +1

      I ordered it from a place near me called the foam store in Kitchener Ontario. It’s 3 inch high density foam. I had them cut it to dimensions I wanted. It’s in Kitchener Ontario.
