TIP: When the bolts are removed, the threads in the floorpan are open to the underside of the Jeep. I recommend that you reinstall the bolts to prevent any water from coming into the cabin.
Thanks for the tip.
Do you know if it’s possible to only remove the 40% drivers side seat?
You can, but a bracket is needed to hold up the end of the 60% seat. Goose Gear I think makes one. If you know someone who does metal work they can maybe fabricate one for you. Cheers.
CheaperJeeperTV thanks!
Wow, that platform looks nice! Great job Dino 🎉
Hey RocklanderUSA,
Thank you for the feedback.
Cheers!!
Thanks Man.
I’ll have one soon and I got two dogs, so I was wanting to take them out. Now you’ve helped me visualize the sleeping situation!😎👍
Blessings,
Jeremy Paul Adams
Awesome. I’m glad you found the video helpful. Cheers.
Highly useful instructions and nice, clear camera work.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the feedback. Cheers.
Thank you. I've been wanting to remove, the back seats in my new, 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4 door, as well. To gain space, and place a composting toilet behind the passenger seat. Are the bolt-down nuts, tough to remove????
Not too bad. Having a long handled wrench or impact driver will help for sure. Cheers.
Is it possible to just remove the 40% side? I want to use that side for easier entry and exit for my dog.
Yes. However, a metal bracket will be required to secure the remaining seat. I believe a company called Goose Gear may sell that bracket. Cheers.
You made removing the seat belt bolt under the longer bench section look easy. I'm struggling to remove it even with a breaker bar. I'm afraid I'm going to break it. Any tips?
Yes. If you have an impact gun, use it. I find as the impact driver is trying to unscrew the bolt. If I push down on it, with some downward pressure it eventually releases.
Thanks! Great video.
You’re welcome. I’m glad you found it helpful. Cheers.
Thanks for your awesome video! Is there any information about the weight of the rear seat bench? I want to save some weight for travels and this seems to be a good option.
Edit: Never mind, found your video about it. Thanks!
Awesome. You’re welcome. Cheers
Do you have a video for installing the back seat? With a few of the bolts being so hard to leverage, i thought the dealership could do it faster and better, but they said 4 hours @ $200/hr. Uh, no.
Holy!!!!
I’ll do it for you for free!! 😆.
Sorry I didn’t video tape putting it back in.
Seriously, it is just the reverse order. Put it in place and install the bolts. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm working on a project to install reclining wedges on the backseat and came to the last and most difficult bolt. The rear bolt under the seat closest to edge on drivers side. Any suggestions?
My Jeep is a JL, so still pretty new and hasn’t had time to seize up. If yours is an older Jeep like the JK it may be seized. If you put a bar onto the end of a socket and wrench, you may get more leverage that way.
Super helpful video! Thanks for sharing :)
Hey Stephanie, I am glad you found it helpful. Cheers.
Do you think an 18 inch 12 V refrigerator will fit under the rear door bed platform ? I bought the Alpicool 53 quart
Hey JeepdogsRCbikelife,
As I mentioned earlier, with the rear seat removed, as seen in the rear seat removal video, there is a ton of extra space below the platform. Since the cross piece behind the front seat is 16" tall, what you may have to do is make the cross pieces and legs 'at least' 2" taller than in my design. The construction video and article on my website has all the piece dimensions. Make sure to test fit the fridge to ensure the correct amount of extra inches required. The cargo leg pieces in the rear will also need to be made taller by the same number of inches, to keep the whole platform level. I hope that makes sense.
CheaperJeeperTV yes it did help ty 👍
I can't find my other comment went but you said the gap filler came included with your jeep? My dealership said that mine doesn't what year and model do you have?
Mine is a 2018 JL Sahara. My understanding is that all the JL Saharah’s since then would have the gap filler.
Thank you
You are welcome.
Awesome 👍
Thanks!👍
Can you keep just the 40% ?
Yes, but you need to buy a bracket to hold up the end that was connected to the 60% piece. I believe GooseGear makes it. Cheers.
Do you know how much the rear seats weigh? I can't find that information anywhere.
Here you go.

What is with that whistle sound? Driving me crazy.
Yeah I had technical issues in my early videos. They were resolved in the subsequent videos. Cheers
Excellent
Hey Harry, Thank you! Cheers
Has anyone had a problem being able to lift the rear passenger seat after reinstalling the rear seats? Thanks!
Hey Michael,
I hope I understood your question. Essentially I have removed and reinstalled the backseat a few times without issue.
Cheers
@@CheaperJeeperTV Thank you for the reply. I removed my 2020 rear seats and when I reinstalled them, I could no longer fold the driver's seat down. I accidentally said passenger seat above. Thanks!
Where did you get the gap cover?
Hi Jessica, The gap cover comes standard on the Sahara models. I wonder if you could just order the pieces from the dealership, and instal it on a Sport? Or better yet, eventually find one at an auto wreckers yard? Cheers.
Isn't there any electrical wiring harness to be removed??
HEY A.R., There were no electrical harnesses to be removed on my 2018 JL Sahara. I'm not familiar with any JL models that have any wiring in the rear seats. The purpose of the zip tie connected to the seat belt connector was odd, but I made sure to attach another one when I reinstalled the seat. Removing the rear seat was actually easier than I thought. Thanks for watching the video.
@@CheaperJeeperTV Thanks for the confirmation - I've a '18 JL Sahara as well.
I did a 100,000 km real owner review video of my 2018. You may want to check it out. Keep an eye on the doors near the hinges.
@@CheaperJeeperTV Thanks for the hint. Will check this & others. I've 22,000km on the odo, drive it for 14 months now (2nd car, not a daily driver). With zero issues.
There's an awful high pitched ringing that happens whenever your mic is in use. I can't finish the video.
Hey Gentle Giant,
There was a technical in some of the earlier videos. Sorry. It has been resolved for the subsequent ones however.
Cheers
Will this work on 2008 Jeep Wrangler ?
Hey Naomi,
Removal of the back seat of the JK is a very similar process.
CheaperJeeperTV Okay ! Thank you I’m going to remove them 🤙🏼
CheaperJeeperTV great video
Naomì Torrez , Thank you. By the way you could find JK specific videos for rear seat removal for review as well. Good luck.
Where's the JL?
Hey Ronald, I’m not sure if I understand what you’re asking. The Jeep in the video IS a JL. Cheers.
cant believe that is so "difficult" or time consuming... I have a honda element, and seats fold up in 6 seconds and can be removed in 2 minutes no tools. disappointing...
Hay Dave, I think you're right. It would be great if the engineers could figure out an easier way to take out the seats, given many Jeepers use their Jeeps for camping. Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers.
After watching this video i will not attempt to remove the seats lulz
Hey James, it would be nice if they could have made it easier. Cheers
