How completely insane is it that Nolan had to go through the Bruins bench to get to the room. Oh how I love everything about this NHL, which is in unrecognizable from Bettman’s NHL of today.
Completely agree. It's an objective truth too... just go to a game. The fans couldn't care less about the game. I went to a flyers game a few weeks ago for the first time in a few years, it was absolutely pathetic. They weren't even showing repays on the board. too busy smashing cake in people's faces or kiss cam. It was hard to swallow.
Good Ole Irish-blooded Nilan, he was born in Boston btw. I remember the Boston Garden had a special plexiglass shield installed just for him because the crowds were throwing stuff at him all the time.
My all-time favorite picture of NHL play isn't the bobby Orr mid-air goal celebration, not the '72 goal, Not the ear-to ear grin on Messier's face as he's about to lift the cup for NYR, but a picture of Chris Nilan, sitting on the ice in front of the net, holding a Minnesota North Star player in a headlock while looking up at the ref with the expression "what?".
I remember watching this game live. Nilan was my favorite player when I was a kid. I got to meet him a couple of times and he gave me his stick at the Spectrum in Philly after he beat Dave Brown three times in the same game. An all time great fighter and super nice guy off the ice.
Knuckles Nilan, an intimate part of the Canadians's hockey team in the 80's. What a competitor! Seeing him casually strolling around the old Boston Garden rink amidst mayhem is priceless. BTW Ken « the rat » Linseman: that was the first time I saw a rodent wearing glasses.
I was 10 yold when I begin to watch my first hockey game. I remember this one :) Old time good hockey. Yesterday the habs won 6 to 1 against Boston. No fights, boring games, where is the old rivalries. At 31yold, only the playoff are good right now to follow the NHL. I dont care about this violence, it was entertaiment and just listen the crowd. It was great, Nilan was a great one like Jay Miller, Lyndon Byers, Dave Brown, well great warrior :) Bring back this old hockey game !
Miller was sent off at one end, and Nilan was escorted right through the Boston bench with schnook Linseman right at the gate? Recipe for a brawl right there.
Some of the greatest goons in NHL history actually had legit hockey skills (Probert had a couple of 20 goal seasons, Nilan scored 20 once, Tiger Williams scored 30 twice)...so some of them could actually play a bit
this is great stuff to watch. As long as no one gets anything worse then a black eye or cut lip this is great entertainment and as true a form of aggression in any sport. I think Greg Stewart will be the next Nilan, he fights similar, doesn't win them all, but just swings away
Nilan crossed line although respectful of the duty .... He proved a little weak... judgment..and immaturity in certain cases ..but his honest generosity...saved him ..the guy paid his bar bill don't worry
i worked at the cask n flagon on huntington avenue and saw the sick predator that nilan was in real life, too. he would walk up behind guys and size them up, deciding who to sucker. these guys would be minding their own business. one night i watched him and his weasel sidekick dave wilkens pick on this skinny 130 lb guy i knew, who was a real karate man. i followed them out onto huntington ave and the karate man kicked both of their asses, rapping wilken's head off a steel grate. he got a massive lifetime scar for that one. nilan got beat up by the 130 lb wimp he and shaky hand picked for a whuppin.
Boston fans hated Nilan, then he became a Bruin and like magic they changed their minds. I never quite forgave him for knocking Rick Middleton's teeth out with the butt end of his stick.
My only regret all these years is that Nilan didn't land a better punch on the Rat who deserved everything he ever got! It's hard to see on this quality, but right after Nilan swings at Linseman, a Boston cop punches Nilan in the face pretty good.
Ah, c'mon... check Nilan's fight card, he's gone with the all the heavyweights, middleweights, and anyone else you want to throw at him. Guy had no fear and fought everyone.
Nilan, another sucker punch to a non fighter. Nilan should thank his lucky stars that J. Miller was tackled by ref. Collins. If Miller got to Nilan he would be still eating soup and taking Epson salt baths.
It was the best of times , It was the worst of times . Terry was my idol in the 70s , With Terry the coach , the Bruins had the most fights in NHL history ! 206 ! . Met him several times and even had lunch with him and Dr, Hook from the movie Slapshot . .Terry is a nice guy , not so much Chris Nilan , met him a few times also and almost fought him . a jerk.
Actually Larry Robinson was probably the toughest guy on the ice at any given time and no one would want any part of him!……… Plus, Larry was more valuable on the ice rather than the box!
Hockey ? Not really. Entertainment? I miss it. Sabres-Bruins divisional playoffs back when, you could hear the snarling in the warmups. Never felt scared at a game until the night in the Aud (and can I have an Amen for the great old barns they played in?)they went at it at the opening faceoff, culminating with fans running down to the Bruins bench glass and tossing beer and such. as the saying went, if this stuff keeps up they'll have to print more tickets...😉
Nilan was a cheap coward. He attacked Quebec's Randy Moller from behind in the infamous 1984 Vendredi Saint (Good Friday) playoff brawl; used his stick against Rick Middleton and, based on the audio here, I'm certain he never graduated from Northeastern University.
Nilan tries to sucker punch Boutilier...does it shock me? It didnt back then and it still doesnt today....Montreal plays dirty....always have and always will
Yet the Bruins had to exit at the end through the Zamboni doors. This was all changed shortly after this when the NHL mandated that the benches were on the same side.
Chris nilan the big fighter not scare to beat so many flyers catch so many flyers goon and win the fight yeahhhhhhhhhhh 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Chris nilan the king 👑 for fight one year make 20goals is a good player never quit to fight a champion winner champion ⭐️🌎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Miller would have destroyed Nilan If the reff didn't hold him down. Jay Miller was one tough player. And strong. The text should have let Jay Miller go. And teach Nilan a lesson . Nilan was an asshole. Never like the son of a birch
Man, how I miss those days. Thanks for all the awesome memories Knuckles.
He says thank you and “F” off at the same time
How completely insane is it that Nolan had to go through the Bruins bench to get to the room. Oh how I love everything about this NHL, which is in unrecognizable from Bettman’s NHL of today.
I fall asleep watching hockey now a days.
Completely agree. It's an objective truth too... just go to a game. The fans couldn't care less about the game. They weren't even showing repays on the board. too busy smashing cake in people's faces or kiss cam. It was hard to swallow.
For anyone that hasn't watched it yet, The Last Gladiators is a documentary about Nilan and other NHL enforcers. It's a good watch.
+XCal40 This i can atest to
Watched it a couple months ago, I agree, that was an eye opener.... or closer depending on your point of view :)
Trump 2024
I remember that game. I was a Junior in HS and loved the B's. WOW I miss OLD TIME HOCKEY!!!!
Good Ole Irish-blooded Nilan, he was born in Boston btw. I remember the Boston Garden had a special plexiglass shield installed just for him because the crowds were throwing stuff at him all the time.
Well Done Knuckles ( Irish ) Nilan from Canada 🇨🇦🇮🇪
My all-time favorite picture of NHL play isn't the bobby Orr mid-air goal celebration, not the '72 goal, Not the ear-to ear grin on Messier's face as he's about to lift the cup for NYR, but a picture of Chris Nilan, sitting on the ice in front of the net, holding a Minnesota North Star player in a headlock while looking up at the ref with the expression "what?".
Better yet nilan holding off 5 Hartford players by himself.
Mine is zach kassian when he rag dolls thachuk and bowls him over back when he was on the flames
I remember watching this game live. Nilan was my favorite player when I was a kid. I got to meet him a couple of times and he gave me his stick at the Spectrum in Philly after he beat Dave Brown three times in the same game. An all time great fighter and super nice guy off the ice.
Well Done, Knuckles 🇨🇦🇮🇪
he never fought brown 3 times in the same night apart from the pregame brawl, brown dominated nilan in wins/losses. stop making stuff up.
He couldn't beat Brown 3 times if they fought 100 times
Let's not forget John kiley on the organ.
I am a Red Wings fan and the Bruise Brothers are my favorites but I sure like old Southern Boston Knuckles Nilan.
I ran into Chris Nilan in the elevator at John Hancock in Boston. Never forget it! He was quite the nice guy when we spoke.
Guess you never lived in Weymouth

00ooikkkkk
Pooiii
Killer Miller! Is this the one where John Kordic and Jay Miller continued fighting under the stands?
Knuckles Nilan, an intimate part of the Canadians's hockey team in the 80's. What a competitor! Seeing him casually strolling around the old Boston Garden rink amidst mayhem is priceless. BTW Ken « the rat » Linseman: that was the first time I saw a rodent wearing glasses.
One of the alltime cheap shot artists , butt ended ricky middleton in the mouth
That’s when Hockey was GREAT
HATED Nilan as a HAB... LOVED him as a Bruin!!
I was 10 yold when I begin to watch my first hockey game. I remember this one :)

Bring back this old hockey game !
Chris was pure hockey! The best! 🥊
The Boston Garden had a design flaw. There was a similar brawl into the corridor's between those two teams sometime around 1970
Miller was sent off at one end, and Nilan was escorted right through the Boston bench with schnook Linseman right at the gate? Recipe for a brawl right there.
Not to mention the North Stars -Bruins game in 81.
Went to a fight and a hockey game broke out
Otherwise known as The Brawl In The Hall.
I love Terry oreilly. God where do we get such men. Not anymore.
Chris Nilan for Canadian Defense Minister!!!!
Meet Ken Linseman from accounting.
LMAO. He had a doozy of a neckbeard back in the day.
He looks like Marchand's dad
Boys Will Be Boys!!!!🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
OMG is this ever VICIOUS!!! I still think Terry O'Reilly was the best!! total horror to have to fight him back in the day!
Some of the greatest goons in NHL history actually had legit hockey skills (Probert had a couple of 20 goal seasons, Nilan scored 20 once, Tiger Williams scored 30 twice)...so some of them could actually play a bit
dpinzow agreed. O Reilly scored 20 4x, had 90 pts once , 70 2x. Wore the C.
Great era of hockey
Dale Hunter 1000 P, 3000 PIM, legend
Pat verbeek
Off the ice Nilan,Miller and Byers are tight, they own a restaurant in Mass- funny how these things work out...
Nilan the best 👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊👊
this is great stuff to watch. As long as no one gets anything worse then a black eye or cut lip this is great entertainment and as true a form of aggression in any sport.
I think Greg Stewart will be the next Nilan, he fights similar, doesn't win them all, but just swings away

He proved a little weak... judgment..and immaturity in certain cases ..but his honest generosity...saved him ..the guy paid his bar bill don't worry
The great old days!!!
Why did Miller put on a different helmet on for the interview?
adamlondoner Wondering same thing, hilarious!
Nilan, Chelios & Maley! Three tough American guys lead the fight fort the Canadiens. Imagine that.
Nilan shows his true colors.
It's amazing to hear the Boston announcer clutching their pearls like this wasn't a regular occurrence with the Bruins in the 70s and 80s.
i worked at the cask n flagon on huntington avenue and saw the sick predator that nilan was in real life, too. he would walk up behind guys and size them up, deciding who to sucker. these guys would be minding their own business. one night i watched him and his weasel sidekick dave wilkens pick on this skinny 130 lb guy i knew, who was a real karate man. i followed them out onto huntington ave and the karate man kicked both of their asses, rapping wilken's head off a steel grate. he got a massive lifetime scar for that one. nilan got beat up by the 130 lb wimp he and shaky hand picked for a whuppin.
Ahhhh. Good old hockey game....
Boston fans hated Nilan, then he became a Bruin and like magic they changed their minds. I never quite forgave him for knocking Rick Middleton's teeth out with the butt end of his stick.
Habs fan: I miss the Bruins - Habs rivalries of the 70's and 80"s.
as Carly Simon says those were the good old days !!
Didn't Nilan make the all star team while with Boston though?
after 10 years I will reply to this 😁 yeah Milbury Selected him but he broke his ankle and didn’t play
Ho que nilan j'aimais ça de très bon souvenir merci Chris nilan contre Boston
KEN LINSEMEN LOOKS HILARIOUS
Had to use a stick to have balls.
O, Riley,if everyone would just grab one another and keep you out of it ,"right" that rich😂
Now i wanna watch Slapshot.
Knuckles....Just another CM punk!
Long live Knuckles Nilan !
My only regret all these years is that Nilan didn't land a better punch on the Rat who deserved everything he ever got!
It's hard to see on this quality, but right after Nilan swings at Linseman, a Boston cop punches Nilan in the face pretty good.
Why didn't the organist play "Lady of Spain" to calm things down?
:)
Chris Nilan was a beast.
Ah, c'mon... check Nilan's fight card, he's gone with the all the heavyweights, middleweights, and anyone else you want to throw at him. Guy had no fear and fought everyone.
grep67 yeah but this whole fracas was causa him. What a shit disturber he was in this game !
@@daveyboy_ what's the point of a Bs Habs game without fracas, drama, and chaos?
Well when your not beating the bruins in the playoffs & winning cups for 40 years....
You have to have something to do in the regular season.
the best fighter thank you chris
Not even close have you ever heard of probert when he first came in league come on
Nilan, another sucker punch to a non fighter. Nilan should thank his lucky stars that J. Miller was tackled by ref. Collins. If Miller got to Nilan he would be still eating soup and taking Epson salt baths.
your a dumb ass! you know how many times miler faught nilan and never got the best of it??? sit down amateur!
2:05 to 2:12 millet helmet has sticker on the front and then during the interview there's nothing 🤔🤔
At 06:06 I think that I see Nilan take a punch to the face.
Chris asked him 3 times to let go of his shirt, then punched him.
where is lyndon byers in all this
@TheProgressistViewer exactly, banning fighting will only increase the number of headshots in my opinion
It was the best of times , It was the worst of times . Terry was my idol in the 70s , With Terry the coach , the Bruins had the most fights in NHL history ! 206 ! . You met a different guy than i did. By far the nicest NHL'er ive ever met.
HaHaHaHa! Everyone wanted to take a swing at Linseman.
Well he wasn't known as "The Rat" for nothing 😁
ALMOST sparks a riot? That pretty much qualifies as a riot.
the only two who weren't fighting were ray bourque and larry robinson...class acts.
Actually Larry Robinson was probably the toughest guy on the ice at any given time and no one would want any part of him!………
Plus, Larry was more valuable on the ice rather than the box!
i was actually lucky enough to see him in downtown vancouver during the olympics
He played at NU for 3 years and then jumped to the NHL.
Best American born fighter and one of the NHL's best, period. Guy would take on anyone..
Enjoy listening to Knuckles on Montreal radio TSN690 every day.
Chris Nilan rocks with fists of thunder.
that's arguable
6:11 I laughed so hard watching this cop too fat to handle a fight rofl
I used to love it when Montreal Canadiens kicked the shit out of Boston Bruins! Thanks Knuckles! 🦂💘 Canadiens
Oreily used to beat the crap out of nilan
hes your dad?
la meme voix quand on etait dans l'ordinateur de wal marde pour les questions de marde de wal mardeeeeeee
Or English! Nilan was a a well-known cheap shot artist.
Do that today and Bettman will take your franchise and put it in Atlanta or Las Vegas
Yeo;)Sahara Desert farm hockey team.Don't call us we'll call you.
You seriously need to fix your tracking , its not difficult !
good old days before political correctness
hes in rehab for drugs and alcohol last time i heard.
I hope guys like Randy Moller that were on the receiving end of punk Nilan's cheap shots laughed their ass off after reading about shoplifter Chris.
Don't do drugs, kids.
What is Chris doing these days??
Hockey ?
Not really.
Entertainment?
I miss it.

Seriously tho what idiot designed the Garden so the opposing team had to go through the Boston bench? Just begging for a fight.
Yet the Bruins had to exit at the end through the Zamboni doors. This was all changed shortly after this when the NHL mandated that the benches were on the same side.
Buncha divers, then and now,eff the habs
Yawn...
Chris Nilan, John Kordic and Larry Robinson No fucking divers there. Better go lay by your dish
+james simpson O'Reilly Jonathan Wensink Ten years prior. Lay by your dishes.Samething.
In the end he was traded to Boston!
Nilan ftw !
i agree
chris says give me more vicodins and bud

Nilan was afraid of Miller. Used to dodge him like the plague. Nilan was tough, but was he gutless. Fought dirty like a puke.
He looks like a character from rocky lol
What the fuck did kenny do? Be fair
Laraque was damaged goods, I do believe, when Montreal signed him. Too bad. 8/
Lucic ran away from Laraque.... still funny as fuck to hear Bruin fans dispute that.
@@brucemorton7787 That entire season he wanted nothing to do with BGL. 8D
MAN HE WAS TOUGH HES GREAT GUY
Nilan was lucky to have a good paycheck for a guy who finished in 3rd grade and be able to spell and write four words!!
George Parros !
