    Twist on Quebec and Twist on St Louis = Two different fighters. He put so much muscle and became so strong that it really transformed him. I'd say Twist was the champ 95-99. Of course I'm a Blues fan but honestly he was the toughest guy in the NHL between those years.

      Twist definitely punched very hard but he wasn't on Kocurs' level. Twist could mess you up and stuff but no one turned out the lights like Kocur. Like, occasionally you'd see it happen here and there, almost like lucky punches or the player would hit their head on the ice when they went down but Joey hit so many guys and it was lights out before they hit the ice. Twist just wasn't that level. Only player I can think of with close to that kind of power was Colton Orr.

    Twist is clearly very intelligent and articulate guy. Good interview. But I would have liked to hear more about the actual fights. Like the Leroux fight (his biggest loss) and how Leroux turtled in their next game, the feud with Ewen... how Twist clearly beat Probert so many times between 95-99 and why didn't he ever fight Tie Domi. It's strange that Domi (who fought EVERYONE) is missing from his fight card. Chris Simon too. And what did he do to gain all that weight and muscle in so little time (that truly transformed him as a fighter after Quebec). All that stuff. But maybe those are good questions for the next interview. Thanks, enjoyed this very much.

    I found it a little odd that he kept bringing Todd Ewen's name up. In their last fight Ewen cleanly dropped him, maybe it bothers him that he didn't get that one back, although he did bloody Ewen with punches on the ice. Twist had scary power when he hit the mark. I remember seeing him KO Mike Peluso for the first time. You could feel how deflated, if not traumatized, the NJ bench was. Also breaking Rob Ray and Mark Janssens orbital bones (I think in the same season). His style left him wide open a lot though, I think it's worth noting, juxtaposed to Nilan, who fought a smart, patient style. Twist got sat down by Bill Huard, Ewen, Jim Mckenzie 2x, Francois Leroux, I also remember him getting knocked down after swinging wild at Bob Probert and Dave Manson, earlier in his career. But, he fought how he fought and the technical style of picking his way through a fight just wasn't his thing. I hated it when that motorcycle accident happened. It would have been interesting to see what team he'd have landed with, to say nothing of how terrible a way that was for his career to end.

    I was at that training camp in Brentwood when Twist faught Todd Ewen.

  • @sokko67
    @sokko67 Месяц назад

    I was at the incident at the Brentwood rink. As I recall, Ewen was going to start the season with a 10 game suspension due to fighting Van Dorp before the faceoff in the playoffs the previous year. I believe he was in Sutter’s doghouse and was trying to work on his skating and forechecking that camp, rather than fighting the new guy. He was traded shortly thereafter to Montreal for Mike Lalor.
    Twist chased Lou Franceschetti around Maple Leaf Garden at the end of a game and got a game suspension and fell into the Blues doghouse. They traded him to Quebec along with Raglan for Darren Kimble, who had just beaten Troy Crowder. The first time the Blues played the Nordiques, Twist defeated Kimble.

KNUCKLES, is there any way you can do something on JOHN KORDIC? Teammates of both you and Twister, incidentally. Most of us from your era know the story about John but some newer fans/younger ones, may not. Is there a way to do it without being too judgemental, too critical and maybe delve deeper into the person John Kordic was? Perhaps have people that knew him on the show as well to talk about him. Possibly talk about addiction/abuse and the trappings of fame ,etc... Or, is his story just too tragic, too sad, to even be considered?? Just an idea for you KNUCKLES, great guests and great show nonetheless..!!
