My pee-wee hockey team travelled to Boston from Eastern Canada in 1989 or 90 and we got to watch the Bruins practice. After their practice, LB saw me standing there watching intently. He skated over to me, asked me if I was a right shot, and proceeded to hand me over his stick. I'll never forget it and LB will always have a special place in my heart for that gesture. I'm a Habs fan.
Knuckles - always enjoy your podcasts and the way you make all your guests feel at home, which I think, allows them to open up about their careers and life in general
It was tough being a Sabres fan in that era… that playoff series had a string of fights in games 1 & 2 … and the Sabres lost every one of them … maybe Clark Gillies had a draw.
Congratulations Chris! Absolutely thrilled to see LB. I miss hearing you and seeing you so much, 34. We love you. And thanks much Chris and Tim for having LB on, What a great surprise after a shit day at work. Oh, hey and PS: It's Cam's birthday!
Great pod Knucks! LB was a menace in the AHL when he was in the Bruins system. Moncton Flames alum. Been a huge fan of him growing up. LB was a huge fan favorite in Moncton. We still love that guy.
@@kevnoxious i am surprised Nilan did not remember Sleigher from the, "Good Friday Massacre." Sleigher knocked out Jean Hamel out with one punch. everyone from Montreal was after Louie Sleigher.
LB and Knuckles were my favorites back when I was like 12 along w/Neely, Raymond, and Andy Moog. No surprise that the 90-91 B’s team was one of the best ever when you had the both of those guys in the lineup. I certainly hope LB’s back heals. Also congrats on getting married Knux!
Favorite LB fights - he beat Rob Ray and Craig Berube like they were red-headed step children. Both vids are here on RUclips, watched em' a dozen times each
You hear all the time that players like Byers and Nilan can get into a players head. Can only imagine how that reality was as their presence got into my head as a fan...
I remember one game when the Bruins played the Nordiques. LB had a fight with a player named Smyth (I think he was a defenseman). After their fight, they’re both in the penalty box, and an argument ensued. After a little of back and forth, they both stepped out of the box and continued their fight. Never saw that before or since. LB was a HUGE fan favorite in Boston, and was part of teams, unlike the B’s of today, that had balls.
I think LB was thinking Louis Sleigher (15:46) which would have given Nilan flashbacks of that infamous suckerpunch on Hamel, which triggered the Montreal Quebec brawl. LOL
Loved that wicked uppercut he landed on Glenn Cochrane. It was lights out. I believe Cochrane from what I’ve seen only lost to Byers, Probert and Wild Willi Plett. Chris love to see ya interview Willi.
Yes and Berube lost very few. Believe his rookie year he got beat up by Jay Miller and Lyndon in the same game. Berube learned though and had very fast hands.
Anybody who watched Byers in the 80s with Boston knows he was one of the finest hockey fighters in Bruins history. O'Reilly was probably the greatest enforcer (not the greatest fighter), Miller was probably the best technical fighter, and Byers was right there with 70s greats Wensink and Jonathan.
By playing on Boston Byers created a memorable character - he needs to settle into life outside of the past. Hope you live well LB or at least content.
Being an old Islanders (70'S / 80'S) fan I certainly remember the great fights against the Bruins. Gillies was done when he played for the Sabres but he still held his own against Byers who in my opinion is among the most underrated fighters ever. They had 2 fights and I saw them as one draw and one win for Byers. i would have like seeing him as an Islander in the early 90's. One tough player.
Mike Milbury screwed over a lot of people. He helped neuter Neely and the Bruins (among An other team s) as a whole in the early 90's, he told Neely not to fight anymore, but teams kept trying him and nobody stood in for him so they were pushed around. No Team cohesion with Milbury it was ALL about HIM and His elitist University mindset, which did nothing but draw attention to himself, which it seems was his favorite end result. He pulled that B.S... I'll sit you out until I need you to fight for me, against Pittsburgh in the 91? 92? Conference finals. He finally brought L.B. and a few other guys back in Pittsburgh after he he had no other cards to play against them. L.B. was only playing for his Buddy's and Neely. Hate Milbury.
He was entertaining but nothing to brag about against old Glen and LB was a punching bag at the end of his career in SJ too. Did he ever fight Brown, Twist, Probert or Kocur?
@atilla429 He was injured A LOT. And your list.... Miller was always beating up Brown, he fought Twist a few times with Quebec, and Probert and Kocur were in the other conference so that means he would have only played against them 2 to 3×'s a year. Between L.B. being hurt or down on the farm for conditioning and Probert's off ice "Lifestyle" and Kocur being in jail for punching his Boston girlfriend out(I know that happened at least once, I went to that game) they hardly ever played against each other. Hey, go look how many times they were in the same game it should be easy. Byers was with the Bruins organization for 10yrs. But he wasn't in the lineup that often for one reason or another.
@@atilla429Why do you think Byers and Nilan didn't like Milbury??? You heard the way they talkied about him.... He played B.S. mental/ sit you out games with them all the time when Milbury was with the Bruins.
@jason-hy8ci Miller was Brown's favorite punching bag. Are you a novice 😮 Brown owned Miller with 9 wins 1 draw and 1 measly loss vs Miller. Brown owned the Boston Bruins and the Rangers.
Funny after lb embarrased berube most players would be bent on revenge berube never went near him after that and lb was not a premier fighter. Philly never liked fighting tough guys. That's why they were called the broad st bullies

Thank you for having LB on. Dudes a legend in Boston
This was a great show!! Byers is a great guest!! Vicious uppercut!!
LB is an entertaining interview and scrapper. Great uppercut and underrated fighter. ! Thanks for so many great geusts.
Awesome stuff...love LB...so loved here in Boston....great choice here guys, well done.
Great hearing John Cunniff getting mentioned
Another great show guys. LB was so much fun to watch. As were all the Bruins at the time.
Thanks for getting LB on
Great show!
Good to hear from LB.

Guy was a beast in his playing days. Was part of that insanely crazy tough 1987-88 Bruins team.
Probably had the best uppercut in the business. Either him or Laus
Toughest team ever

@@vmme6219 Right? Sabres were game that year but Bruins were just so much tougher.

October 1988. Great Smyth. R.I.P
Gregg "Bird Dog" Smyth.
Ewen did it too
What are you talking about Greg Smith is alive and well nitwit
Sorry about Lyndon losing his son. How horrible!
Congratulations Chris.! Ty guys again. 😊
This dude was tough & nasty with the uppercuts !
Hey Knucks, start asking each tough guy who’s the toughest guys they fought on the ice

Northern Saskatchewan baby!
Lyndon Byers!! Uppercut City.. wish he would have played against the enforcers. 2005

Thanks for this interview. I liked Byers as a player and I was an Islanders fan. TOUGH OLD TIME PLAYER
Good show, good hockey show.
Hell of an interview
Brilliant podcast. Big fan from the uk. Would love to hear from someone who played in the eihl, ie, Tim Spencer, Brian mcgrattan, Adam Keefe etc.
awesome player 2 not just a goon. lot ❤️
LB had some great goes. Carkner, Ray, and he tuned up Berube pretty good. The good old days. 😢
Yes and Berube lost very few. Believe his rookie year he got beat up by Jay Miller and Lyndon in the same game. Berube learned though and had very fast hands.
As a Flyers fan, whenever I hear the name Lyndon Byers I think about the time he destroyed Berube.
Should have asked LB about the Greg Smyth fight coming out of the box in Boston - that was something. Would iove to hear what they said to each other.
LB lived a block away from me in Boston, I think he had a white dodge viper lol
Can't believe lb and Probert never fought
LB black betty
lb was a sniper in jrs,and had some killa lettuce
Usher tried to kick us out of loge at a preseason game, guy dressed in camo finger calls the usher over, leave em the eff alone.it was LB
they could not find the name of the guys he played on the same line in trainning camps...its was luis sleiger
I'm curious to know, how many times Knuckles has had the Gordie Howe hattrick

I think Notre Dame is Tier 2 Junior. The Hounds play in the SJHL
The Regina team that L.B. Played for was maybe the toughest team ever.
Lyndon and Wendal could pass as brothers lol
We need Wensink on here.
Lb. That nose tells a story!

Please try to get Tikkenan on. He was a great player and I never rooted for any of his teams. I respected the job he did in Edmonton.
