Had the honour of meeting Guy lafleur three times and to have him pat me on the back and say I was a kind guy and ran and over and help me push a handicap boy in a wheelchair stuck on.a ramp dropping his autographing session. Guy Guy Guy
With so many Tributes to Guy Lafleur floating around right now, when I saw yours I thought it would just be like the others. I am so happy that I clicked "play" and so happy that I was wrong. What a wonderful, heart-felt tribute to Guy. Your stories, your jokes and your genuine love of the man is so evident. You were lucky to have a friend like Guy, but he was just as lucky to have a friend like you. Well done, Mr. Nilan.
Mr. Nilan. I had a day off today and just saw your podcast pop up. Was I ever happy that I took the time to listen to your great, heartfelt podcast. It was full of pretty cool stories and recollections. The way you spoke about Guy's stories, your connection with Guy, the jokes. Quite happy I took the time to listen to your podcast. You have a knack at storytelling. You gave a great hommage to Guy. Guy will be missed
Hello Chris Nilan. I found your podcast very interesting. U R a GREAT fellow. I met Guy, Gainey, & saw Mondou in Buffalo Auditorium. My Dad/Mom had lived in Montreal & used to go to Catwalk & watch the Rocket. In our family which ended in USA, U rooted for the Habs PERIOD. My pal had a press pass to enter dressing room in Buffalo as his Dad was owner of radio station. I was unable to speak almost as 1st thing I see is a LONG FUR coat. I knew it was Guy even tho facing locker. He shook my hand & his hand was so big/strong, he could of crushed mine. He was very kind. Gainey was same. I can see you are ALSO a Hab & a very nice man, see you in heaven. 👍❤️
This is my favorite podcast of all time. You told it better then anybody. Guy Lafleur is the greatest player of all time and the habs are my religion. You are blessed not only with you toughness( BOSTON BLOOD) but with the ability to tell it like it is and was and anybody can just tell that its strait from the heart and truthful. You are blessed with the ability to tell us fans stories that we would have never heard and it means the world to me. I feel like a kid again watching the greatest player ever flying up the right right wing and just blasting that deadly accurate shot past who was so unlucky to be manning the twine that night. Thank you so much. This is my favorite podcast ive ever watched and ive watched alot. I didnt think it was even possible to feel in the moment back in the seventies watching the greatest team ever assembled. No team in NHL history could of beat those late seventies habs. Not Gretzky,s oilers or lemiexs penguins. Nobody. We will never see such greatness in a hockey team again thanks to Lafleur and the list of stars up and down that lineup. What a gift we had.
To put in my 2 cents worth, I live in Rockland Ontario, across the river from Thurso. I met him briefly at an old timer game here. Compared to 2 other old timers that we knew, who were not willing to sign autographs (Stéphane Richer and another), Guy was always willing to take the time to speak with us and, of course, sign autographs to whomever wanted one. A true gentleman and a great human being. Thanks Chris for this. ❤
Everytime I went to Lac Simon as a kid in 70's and 80's you went through Thurso and you knew that because of the smell lol. I got an autograph from him on an old Habs jersey in 1980 in the summer when we met him at the gas station in Papineauville. Funny guy. Bon vivant!
WOW...Chris thank you soooo much for sharing this....although I never met Guy in person, I fell in love with him at age 7 and have been ever since, I'm currently 57. These last few days I got the chance to say goodbye on Sunday May 1 at the Bell Center. He made me fall in love with hockey and the Canadiens and will always be a magnet in my heart for the "Flower". I know your Podcast will be a great success...I love the way you tell the stories "RAW"......just like GUY would have told it......We will ALL miss our forever HERO................RIP>>>>>GUY GUY GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!
My heart goes out to you Chris, for this loss. I only knew him as the legend from TV, HNIC, living in Northern Alberta, and seeing him play on Saturday nights. I was fortunate to meet him a few years ago in Slave Lake AB, and got a photo with him. Thanks for this podcast and the insight to Guy... RIP Guy!!!
This is such an amazing eulogy to a remarkable player and person. Thanks so much for sharing. Frankly, I cannot think of a more honest and humble spokesperson.
A great remembrance of a great player. Well done sir. You weave a beautiful tale in your pod casts. I love the Rouge et Bleu, since I was a kid. The Flower was a hero and a class act. So are you sir, for a Boston boy. You have taken a deep dive into Canadian culture. You do it great justice with a rough dressing room style that is endearing to any wannabe, elderly, beer league player. Thanks brother. 👍🏼
I’m from Toronto but a Hans fan. Saw Lafleur play in Montreal 4or5 times and witnessed something I’ve never experienced before. Lafleur would pick up a puck at full speed and there would be a strange feeling I couldn’t explain. I think what it was ,was that 30,000 people in one building would be holding their breath and you could feel it.
Just saw your podcast today, what a tribute to the late great GUy LAFLEUR. Meant GUY in Belleville, Ontario in 2013 when he coached the Alumni Team. You guys were playing Toronto! You got hurt and didn't get a chance to meet you. You, were the reason I went to the game. After the game I went to the sports bar where the team was and meant all of the players and sat with Guy and Sergio Momesso. Guy was such a pleasant guy to be around, and during our conversation his scoring came up and also you came up in our conversation. I mentioned to Guy about how much I liked you and how I would send you birthday cards and address them to the late Claude M to give to you.He had a big smile on his face and stated" I always knew when I got on the ice that Chris had my back, and that means alot on a team. He also said you gave your all for the team and meant alot to the Canadians Organization. We shook hands and he autographed my Jersey, and he introduced me to another player with whom I talked to for awhile. Thank you for signing my hockey card which I proudly display in my home beside my Irish Family Shield. I have read your book many times and I wish you the best. A relative of mine, Doug Jarvis used to play for Montreal. God Bless you🇨🇦🇮🇪🇺🇸
This is by far the best tribute I heard about Guy. It made me realize that he was everything I ever thought he was as a kid; gracious, classy, and talented. Thanks Knuckles.
Chris. Wow. Your comments about Guy were incredible. Poetic. Articulate. Powerful. Thank you. And sorry for the loss of your friend. For the record, I saw you score a goal on a penalty shot against the Jets at the Forum on February 23, 1985. Keep up the great work.
I hope you read this bro cause im in my glory right now hearing your stories. I was born in 1966 and my dad was a big habs fan so by the early seventies I was also a huge habs fan. I couldn't get enough. Guy Lafleur is the greatest player of all time to me. He was the absolute master of his Era. The feelings I have right now listening to your time with my hockey hero is indescribable. Thank you man and I also gotta say you are my favorite fighter to ever wear that special jersey. Thank you knuckles!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks Chris, I still remember your night at the Forum against the Jets. You had a great game you scored on a penalty shot, awesome. I saw Guy in his prime at the Forum, he was amazing. Merci beaucoup pour partager tes souvenirs du Demond blond!
Memory's playing tricks on you Chris : 1980 Game 7 against Minnesota North Stars was lost in regulation, one goal difference, came close to tie it up in the last few seconds- I was 11 years old, cried my heart out in the living room, just couldn't believe it- If only Guy could have played...
I still remember the crowd chanting "Guy...Guy...Guy" when pressure was on and the Habs needed a goal badly. He came through most nights. Not many stars of the game could elevate the game singlehandedly like Flower did. He was the McDavid of his time.
What a great hockey player Guy Lafleur R.I.P. Mr Nilan you were my favorite Canadian player you fought for the team you gave everything every night I watch you play, Sir my respect for you!
Mr Nilan i have 47 and i grow to see you play with Canadian and i have high respect for you you give every thing for Canadian you are my warrior when i was young not the bigger for sure the bigger heart
huge habs fan growing up...guy was a great player indeed....awesome tribute....the irony of you being from bean town and ending up playing for their toughest rival and winning a cup as well....can only imagine if you would have been a bruin sooner.....look forward to meeting you in saint john new brunswick on may 14th....keep up the great work...cheers!
This was the best tribute to Lafleur - I loved it! I was a young kid in the '70s growing up in Montreal, and have fond memories of the Canadiens at that time. Like the entire city, I loved Lafleur, as well as Dryden. Was a great time to be a Habs fan! Loved hearing Chris' stories, they were phenomenal. Thanks for sharing with us Knuckles!
Chris I want to thank you for sharing your feeling with times spent with Guy Lafleur great hockey player but above that a great human being. Now i know a bit more about Chris Nylan and you can feel the honesty you have about being a proud Montreal Canadian and friends with GUY GUY GUY :) thanks for this moment.
Nice tribute to Guy by you Chris. I could feel the admiration you had for him as a teammate and friend. I loved the stories that you shared of your times together. He sounded like a great guy. R.I.P. Flower. 🙏
Knucks, my brother played with your buddy “digger” in Phoenix so we are only 3 degrees of separation from each other, but that is the hockey world isn’t it. I just started watching your podcast about a month ago, apologies for taking so long to catch on. This tribute to your friend, beloved teammate, legend and hockey icon was incredible. Thank you so very much for sharing a few stories, memories and insights about Guy and am thrilled to continue to follow these great podcasts you’re are putting out. I too wasn’t always known for my goal scoring but nowhere near a guy like you. So happy to see you doing so well and I am spreading the word about these amazing podcasts. Cheers. 🏒🥅💪👊🏻
Bravo Knuckles. I tip my hat to you. I have always loved the way you played the game. You’re are you a total favourite of mine. Loved your tribute. Your podcast is extremely excellent
Amazing Chris. I met you in ‘86 at Manoir LeMoyne Hotel. I said your friend Ric Natress is at the bar and you said ‘he’s my teammate not all my teammates are my friends’ haha. I met you drunk on Ste Catherine and Carbonneau was there too and i said Chris Nilan what are you doing here? Causing trouble i thought u were gonna punch me haha. I started saying ‘i m a fan i m a fan’ haha. I knew Kordic from the hotel and i grew up w and boxed w Steve Fletcher. I watched you from the beginning buddy. I m listening to your Lafleur tribute and all i have to say is thank you
Thanks for sharing some of your memories of Guy with us. I loved watching both of you play when I was a kid. Guy was and always will be my favourite player. Again, thank you so much Chris for these awesome stories. They are a great tribute to the Flower.
What few people mention is how great Guy was in back checking. He used his speed and tenacity to great back checking effect. The other thing thats not talked about is the special offensive connection between Robinson and Guy. Larry was always on the lookout for him. They were also good friends.
I enjoyed listening to you sharing such great memories Chris. Having grown up in the 60s and 70s in Montreal it brought back many memories as well. I actually worked across the street in the Alexis Nihon Plaza 1980/81. In my youth we would see different players from time to time over the summer. I remember you coming up to the team and happy you got to win a cup with Montreal. A real team guy !!
So happy to hear you again Chris; I loved listening to you on radio and was very sad when you left. Your testimony and love of Guy got my eyes all wet. Great stories which you deliver with passion and authenticity. You’re a great Montreal Canadian of your own Chris.
Good to hear your stories, Knuckles. Guy Lafleur will be missed. I have a lot in common with you. I went to Northeastern right after you (1981-1986). Saw many games at Mathews Arena, and saw 3 Beanpot wins at the Garden (never saw you play, unfortunately). Ferny Flaman was the coach back then and liked his team to play a physical game (your kind of game) since NU wasn't quite as talented as the other Boston schools (BC, BU, and Harvard). I dated a girl from West Roxbury (went to St. Clare's), and used to go to many B's games at the Boston Garden. I saw you at one Beanpot in the 80's and overheard you talking about how the Montreal Canadiens respect their players more than the Bruins respect theirs, and how much you loved playing in Montreal. Back about 15 years ago, I saw you on Stanley street (you were leaving a club), but I didn't want to bother you. I'm familiar with all the Montreal bars on Crescent St., especially Thursday's and Sir Winston Churchill's. I have been following your career closely since we have a lot in common, and you put Northeastern on the map as a hockey school. The big player back then for NU was Rod Isbister and I don't even think he played a game in the NHL, but you did, congratulations.
@@4orrcountryI never saw Wayne Turner play, but I know he scored the O.T. goal in 80' in O.T. vs. B.C. to win NU's first Beanpot. As for Fern Flaman, I only remember him as a good coach who coached his players to play a physical game (like he did). Never saw Niland play at Northeastern, but was surprised he made the Habs roster. He did well as an enforcer, and had some productive years with 20 plus goals on occasion.
Chris your tribute was the most honourable sincere personal tribute I've ever heard in my life!! I grew up loving Guy & the Hab's as did my father who was a fanatic, my brother, relatives & most of my friends all loved him so much👏life is funny & I believe everything happens for a reason & your story about coming up through the ranks & meeting him from the first time to last last time I think was all part of Gods plan! From a time where you didn't like him to a time that you would of done anything for him🥊🥊 🥊🏒🥅❤️🙏🏼
Chris thank you for this tribute. Done with respect and class which is what he exemplified. How sweet would this have been if you were able to have him as a guest on your show.
Omg.. so thankful this channel came into my feed. Loved watching Chris Nilan play hockey and LaFleur was my fav player ever growing up… 53 years of my life, playing, referee, coach… hockey just isn’t the same anymore.
We broke in the Garden too when I was a kid, we'd get about 20 kids and pull a side door open and at the top of the stairs the usher could only grab one kids, the rest got in!!
Very good podcast! I’ve met you a few times but we never had a discussion! I saw you walking your dog and at the airport in Toronto talking to Cournoyer and sharing your rings! It was a beautiful moment! Great job on the podcast Chris!
It’s about time a real hockey guy ( a HAB)has a podcast. Watched you back in the 80s listen to you on TSN heck I even asked Kerry Fraser about you ( I coached with his son-in-law) and told him I grew up in Montréal and to be honest did he really favor the Habs he laughed. He’s a very nice man anyways love love Loved the Flower best hockey player but even a better human being ❤. Good luck on the podcast I’ll be watching keep up the great work Knuckles
Lafleur and those Canadiens were so great they spoiled the fanbase. We began to believe that we're better than everyone else, and from 1956 to 1979 it was true. For so long we were stuck thinking that we were the invisible Canadiens, but we are no longer that. Now we have is 1 Cup final in 30 years, a complete opposite of what was before. With Lafleur a part of the identity of the team dies. The CH needs a new Lafleur to lead them back to their winning ways. A top 50 player in the league is not enough. It must be a top 5 player who can carry the team to deep playoff runs year after year. They are not going to win every other year like before, but they should be in the mix there among the best teams every year, that is all you can ask for.
Chris. I want to personally thank you for all you've done and share with the CH. And Guy. You are awesome. I was born in northern Quebec and in Nashville. I remember Guy when I was young You are truly a great one too sir. Merci beaucoup knuckles. Bob
Hey Chris first thing first you’re certainly one of those Habs who also really represent with awesomeness the team. Your memories and stories with Guy are just fantastic thanks so much for sharing them with us👊👊👊
When I lived in the Montreal area back in the early 80s' the high school hockey team I was on went to see the Habs practice, so I am standing there watching you guys practicing and shooting pucks, you took a shot right at me..😆..nice shot btw...Lafleur was my favorite when I was a kid...cheers!
Wonderful Chris. Look forward for your upcoming podcasts. RIP to your mate my favorite #10. Condolences he will be missed. Your story and recollect brought tears to my eyes.
Chris, this was one of the best trips down memory lane one could ever listen to. #10 and #30 were a staple in my household and to have further insight to your great friendship was beyond amythingi could have expected from you. You are a great man telling stories of a great man!
Thank you much Chris for all those personal memories you shared with us about Guy and the respect you have, but dont forget you were also a hero by the way you played, you were like a "superhero" protecting the guys lol. Theres many names we will never forget in those years and your name is there :)
Chris I love your podcasts! you are very natural and ask the right questions! My fondest memory of you is actually when I was was coming up University and turning left on to La Gauchetiere, and out of the blue I saw two bodies sliding across my hood Starsky and Hutch style......it was you and Chelios...I remember telling my brother that I almost killed Knuckles and Chelly!!!
This heartfelt tribute is what friendship is all about. Chris thank you for speaking from the heart and talking about your friendship with Guy LaFleur!!! The Raw Knuckles Podcast is PHENOMENAL!!! You get amazing hockey stories, but you also get some incredible life lessons!!!
Thank you Chris, you're my favorite player ever, Thank you for this great story about Guy. I grew up with the 70's habs, So much better than any documentary
Hi Knuckles. I grew up in Montreal and the 70's were the greatest years of the habs. I remember you playing with the habs. Man you made the players feel safe! I don't care if you have 1 or could of had three cups, you have your name on that cup! Knuckles you were one of my favorites and don't forget how you are loved by all habs fans! Thanks for the memories and stories! Cheers my friend! .. Mark
But Mark, I thought Montreal fans don't like hitting and fighting...that's why you hate Boston, right? Too late, you've shown your true colors...it's okay for John Ferguson, Terry Harper, Phil Roberto, Pierre Bouchard, Gilles Lupien, John Kordic and Chris Nilan to hit and fight, but not okay for ANYone else on ANY other team, especially Boston. Not too hypocritical, eh?
@@4orrcountry I don't know where you got that thought, You simply thought wrong!! Where did I say other teams couldn't hit or fight? Never said I hated Boston either. I guess not eveyone is what you thought huh?
I like how you always credit Claude Ruel for all the help he gave you to develop as a player. Its sincere and we can tell how you appreciate it.

I froze I was in awe I could not go up to meet him.. Its crazy!
"In the company of greatness" that says it all, Chris. I think in your own way you're also part of the Habs greatness...

This is the most touching, funny, honest and fascinating testimony about Guy Lafleur you'll ever hear!
Thanks Chris for sharing. I loved listening to your stories. I have no doubt that Guy would be moved by your generous candor.

Loved this eulogy. Thank you for sharing and helping us all grieve.
Thank you for sharing memories of Lafleur. It was a great show. We’ll all miss him very much.
Not really. Not even close to the legendary Wayne Turner. And Ferny, of course.
From a time where you didn't like him to a time that you would of done anything for him🥊🥊 🥊🏒🥅❤️🙏🏼
Thank you Chris for sharing these great memories. You are a legend too! Merci pour vos belles années avec la Sainte-Flanelle.
Chris thank you for this tribute. Done with respect and class which is what he exemplified. How sweet would this have been if you were able to have him as a guest on your show.
Thank you Chris Nilan for sharing all those stories about Guy -
Pure Gold !
HABS 30 ..Massachusetts..WOW!
Omg.. so thankful this channel came into my feed.
Very well done, Chris!
Amazing tribute to Guy, thank you very much for doing this.
Love this! Chris great tribute! Thanks for sharing. 💙🤍❤️ R.I.P Guy!
amazing recounting of your good times with the FLOWER!
Loving this Chris, rip Guy, nicest superstar I ever met. Class
I remember Guy when I was young
You are truly a great one too sir. Merci beaucoup knuckles.

Well done Chris.....Guy was my childhood idol...watching him play inspired me to play....really enjoyed your podcast.
