Packs to heavy and the air is too thin. That's a quote for the ages. Glad to see Joe got his hat out. Beautiful area. You have a good crew to hike with. Take care, Al
Hello fellow redbeard! Haha your channel just popped up and I like it.
I got referred to this channel by my father in-law who loves fishing. Thank you for this! I love backpacking in the Uintas and seeing what other hikers experience. Great content.
thanks for taking us along!
Wow. So excited to move on to the next episode of this trip.
One quick comment though; the quality of both the video and - more importantly, the audio out of your SONY X3000 is incredible. Makes for a really great viewing at the subscriber end. 👍👍
First video I have seen in Utah. Big wide open meadows, beautiful forest, small trees looked like Christmas trees. Enjoying following you on this adventure!
Always awesome to tag along with the Zpacks crew! Beautiful scenery but tough hiking at altitude like that I'm sure. Will be great to see the rest of the hike!
Awesome-my brother and I hiked the Highline from the Leidy Peak trailhead to Hayden Pass last summer (2017)! It was an incredible experience!
Uinta weather rolls in and out fast! have to watch it. great vid
Thanks! Yeah crazy weather definitely seems to happen when over 10k no doubt. I don’t actually think it rains there just hail!! Ha
@@RedBeard0924 spent one night up by gunsight pass in aug. On our way to kings. Full moon about every 20 minutes when the hail storms passed lol. ✌
shawn walden crazy! The only thing that makes me nervous is when the lightning is right over my head. That keeps me awake for sure.
@@RedBeard0924 absolutely. You had a sketchy moment for sure lol. Glad your adventure was a blast.
This trail looks amazing...utah is a very awesome place from what I've seen..good stuff bro
Watched this when you released it, now watching again while planning my hike this August! Love the trip video.
a big yes to Utah. looking forward to more videos of that incredible state
I just purchased the Highline Documentary on Amazon, it was a fantastic movie and so great to get the backstory on you and the rest of crew
Loving watching this from Scotland! I think I first started watching you 2 years ago.... Love your high quality vids and your understated commentary. You should come and climb our mountains here sometime, Will. No blazes and few trails though - map reading skills and navigation essential!!
Really glad you have enjoyed my channel. I can’t wait to come to Scotland. I’m doing the TGO Challenge next year, walking from the west coast to the east coast. I can’t wait!
I know the TGO Challenge!! That is fantastic. I think you will love it!!! Sooooo happy you are coming here!
Sophie Younger I’m very excited. I have heard so many great things about backpacking in Scotland. Joe, Matt and Steve from this video all did the TGO Challenge a few years back. They said it was amazing!
Fantastic that those 3 have done it already! I'm loving watching them in your vid too. Have you ever read Nan Shepherd's "The Living Mountain'? She was a brilliant Scottish writer on the subject of mountains and wild places - her home and stamping ground being the beautiful Cairngorm Mountains... I think you'd enjoy her writing!
What is that cone shaped hat that Joe is wearing? Great filming. Looks like an awesome hike. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like fun, thanks for posting!
Did the same route in 2017, best is yet to come!
Best Uinta Highline youtube video I've seen yet. Wondering how you worked out the logistics? Looks like a shuttle was used. Happen to remember the name and the cost? Wanting to do this with 4 others next summer if I can figure out the shuttle situation. We would be flying into SLC too.
You all are in my stomping grounds! You are gonna love Horse Lake.
Great looking hike guys! Might have to make my way out west after the AT next year!
this looks like it would be a fun trail to walk but plan to hike the appachian trail first
Hey Redbeard, saw you on a Uinta Highline Trail documentary, I'm planning to hike that trail myself this year. Looking for gear, I need a backpack, and maybe a tent. dunno, a backpack for sure. Something that wont break the bank lol looking for recommendations if you have any ideas = )
Watching Highline on AppleTV right now.
Cool stuff. Ever get the post-hike blues? That's you being tired and wanting to get back out at the same time!
Yeah from time to time that’s why I always try to have my next hike already schedule before I complete the one I’m on. That way I always have another hike to look forward to. We already have a 10 year plan at Zpacks so I never really have to worry about it anymore.
Any idea on make and model of Steve’s hooded long sleeve shirt? Thanks and I love your content. You guys rock. Look forward to seeing the documentary.
That 's sasquatch country, the most common thing you'll hear are wood knocks, weird mouth pops, and weird whistles, less commonly thrown rocks, limbs, whoops, and other vocalizations.
Oregon fire smoke is making outdoor activities minimal. PS. I bought a couple of hiking/trail signs at a swap meet. Stoked. That sun was intense ( in tents).
I totally agree. We just did the Timberline Trail the last 2 days and I am messed up from all the smoke. Terrible.
Did you guys end up finding water in the meadow at mile marker 20?
Question: First, great video and information. I'll be doing this hike this summer and I'm interested in how you managed a resupply? I'm hoping to resupply rather than haul 18lbs. of food at the start. Any resupply information would be great. BTW, this will be my first through hike with my brand new Zpacks Duplex! Looking forward to it keeping me cozy and dry. Thanks in advance.
Hey Red Beard! I'm planning a UHT trip this summer. Did you guys hang your food? Bear Cans? Ursack?
You need to come to New Zealand man, with respect our trails make this one look ordinary and its all so close.
What did you use to be able to measure your altitude and position, my good man?
i'd love to hike with you guys one day
I was wondering what kind of knee braces is Matt wearing? Everytime I wear that style of brace, it rolls up on me. Awesome videos btw, just moved to Park City and definitely going to hit this trail.
What time of the year did you do this hike?
Hi from Holland. Nice footage, thanks for sharing. Where and when will the documentary be released?
The documentary will be released by Outmersive Films most likely in the Fall of 2019. For more info check out Outmersive Films on RUclips, Instagram and Facebook.
Well done, 👍🏽👣👣👣👣🏔
Redbeard....thanks or sharing this trail experience. What did you use for "navigation"? Any suggested maps, apps, that you prefer? (And by "navigation" I mean, water source locations, road crossings, trail junctions, etc...) Thanks.
Navster Hikes I used an app called Trails. I found a gps google earth file searching on google then created my gps track on google earth. I then used that each day within the Trails app. As far as water sources I just researched on google earth for ponds and read some trail reports and marked those locations on my gps file. Hope this helps.
Custom made packs for the film crew, or just the belt pouches and chest/ multi packs? Nice!
Multipack is the exact one from our website. The hip pouches were custom made at another company. I think it was Zimmerbuilt. 👍
Will Wood thanks man. I have an older DCF multi bag doesn't look that large. Appreciate the info. Great gear all around and a great hike.
Did anyone make a GPX file for this first leg? My son and I did it from Leidy peak but want to do it again from the eastern end.
Wow that looks epic! What was your favourite part?
Probably King’s Peak and Deadhorse Pass. Those places where super cool
Tell me about that solar panel. I use a CPAP, need a large battery, need to charge it. Will it work? Let me know.
Not sure you would have to ask Plugitinhikes on that one. I’m personally not a fan of solar panels when it is just so easy and cheap to carry a 20,000 mAh Anker battery pack that gives me a ton of juice and charges easily in town. At 12 ounces it’s a bit heavy but completely reliable. Check out the link to the Anker in my description of this video.
Does this trail require a permit? I gotta do this trail asap
At the moment it does not. 👍
Summer Break... I know what I'm doing... Thanks RB
What staff is Jos using?
Carbon Fiber Staff which is on our website under accessories. Joe never hikes without it.
Where is part two and where are you you haven’t posted anything in a year
Junk Box all the videos are posted on my channel. I own a farm in Florida so I’ve been farming unfortunately doesn’t leave as much time for hiking these days.
Following Redbeard ya this is an old post and for some reason they were not showing up but it’s all good but thanks for answering me again
hi this is lu .hi will.
Sell the hats again, Joe!
...but you're in the high uintas =)
