Thanks. I note from your Uinta Highline Trail video that you started July 19. I was wondering, since that wasn't stated in this video or in your video description.

I did this trail end of July. No mosquitos for us. August is even better. It was also not a huge snow year. Also agree on starting at Leidy Peak and you can add miles seeing one of the best features in the Uintas, Red Castle and red castle lakes. There’s a no name pass to get you back to the UHT. Very fun off trail and not hard. You do miss porcupine pass and Tungsten Pass which stinks bc that area is also really cool but i prefer red castle. Also I didn’t think the main UHT route through the burn area was bad. It maybe added an extra 45min for us. There were plenty of cairns and a path to follow. Some navigation but very little. We had no mosquitos here. If you want to get through that section the fastest it’s best to just go the main UHT route. I also recommend you summit Kings! It’s so cool. Takes about an hour round trip or less from the pass.

Damn an hour round trip for Kings? You're cooking!

The other trail that takes you from dead horse pass to rocky sea pass was not any better. We had the same experience, tons of fallen tree that we had to constantly climb up and over and we were losing the trail every 100 yards or so, sometimes more frequently

Good to know! I can't believe a trail crew hasn't been in there yet

I can confirm, 100% correct on every count, but I disagree on #9. I loved the first section, going in and out of forests and high alpine meadows. The beetle kill isn't as bad on the East end, and it also gives you time to acclimate to the altitude. From Dead Horse to Rocky Sea Pass, the North Trail is the way to go. There's too much fire damage and the North Trail is easiest to navigate, even though it's more miles. You will make more progress on the North Trail.

Hey hey, there I am! Not much to disagree with but I will say in August it was better as far as wet feet. Yes the bogs were still there but after the terrible area west of Chepeta Lake there weren't many other place to get wet feet. Definitely after North Pole pass it was pretty dry the rest of the way.
Agree on Dead Horse pass, that was my favorite pass by far.
I still maintain to take the All Trails route between Dead Horse and Rocky Sea. The UHT was turrible.
And finally, like you I did the entire thing from McKee Draw and I did (will) do that again. The views were different for sure, but I also appreciated having that day to adjust to the elevation.
Thinking about doing this again in August. Great exeperience!
