One of the best live cuts ever recorded! Astronomy is arguably the crown jewel of BOC's song catalog and despite not having the benefits of a studio with overdubs to recreate the many layers and atmospherics of this song, BOC absolutely nailed this live performance and given the timeframe probably had a great laser show for the fans in attendance.

One of my favourite almost metal bands from the early days! ….Why?
This band always had superior musicianship, song writing, & stage performances!
On top of that…a Sci Fi theme you have to love!

Through the 70s and early 80s i saw BOC live 11 times. Always one of the greatest live perfomances youll see. Especially the Specters tour.

Not where I usually listen to. But this is a good and relaxing ending of a lazy, warm day. Good sound indeed for a live registration.

They lost a road crew member's life during the first attempt of staging this Columbus Georgia concert. His tractor trailer truck full of Blue Oyster Cult equipment, along with him, careened off a highway bridge high above a large river that was adjacent to the concert venue. The truck plummeted deep down off the tall bridge into the river deep below within eyesight of Blue Oyster Cult's concert venue nearby. They had to postpone the concert and get new equipment to continue the tour and to reschedule the Columbus Georgia concert in order to get their live album recordings.

For me, this has consistently been one of the greatest solos in history. Even BOC never quite reached this height again. This is sheer perfection thankfully captured for all time. Thank you for adding to my lifelong mission of making sure everyone gets to hear this version, Secret Treaties is great but this song is on a whole new level here.

Fantastic performance, of course. Reminds me of early Golden Earring - maybe from the Moontan era. I figured that a fellow Dutchie would appreciate the thought!

To get a true feeling for BOC, you must check their live performance as a video (this is live). The Metallica cover was OK, but Kirk Hammett can't hold Buck Dharma's jockstrap. This song was on BOC's 3rd album - "Secret Treaties" - released in 1974. While their album tracks are great, Buck always lets go with a stunning extended solo on stage. Here is what is one of the best ever sounds and looks like - "Veteran Of The Psychic Wars": ruclips.net/video/7pFdkkjGiEs/видео.html

The only band I've seen more than BOC is RUSH. I'll never forget seeing them at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, and the last time I saw them was at a small bar in Portland, Maine!

I've probably seen them live at least 70 times since 1976. It's not hard to understand why the lads from Metallica liked this enough to cover it, and that is an excellent cover. Love Ghost too, a band often compared to BÖC. Thanks for the excellent reaction video.

Great review!! This song is amazing and the details for a live show are well, " out of this world".

Might I recommend that you acquire and read Martin Popoff's book called "agents of fortune: the blue oyster cult story"? It will give you a familiarity with the lore surrounding this amazing band. Great reactions btw...
