Aw man This used to be one of my favorite bands!!!!!... I think the arrangement of the band explains the sound... To put that much BRASS out in front and to push the woodwinds (the fullness and middle sound of the band) to the back BEHIND THE DRUMS? Mix that with elementary arrangements, no intonation... I LOVE THAT THEY WERE THERE...I just wish they were under better direction...
Nic Few traditional to March that way, almost every band does, this doesn’t have amps to smooooooth your music, could mix them up but marches would change due to differences in instrument sizes
Just have to work on their musicianship. Balance and intonation. Blasting notes is not better than backing off and blending. This has to be instilled from the top though. Can't blame this on the kids. At the end of the day, they are in school and helping to tear down stereotypes of us doing nothing but making crime. So keep it up and get that education. I love watching ASU Marching Band. Although I went in the military after high school we had quite a large band and won competitions in PA. Drum majors are great. Band marches with pride and discipline. Obviously the sour comments are from people that have had no experience. I have been watching you on You Tube and have caught a little on tv. Is it Dr. Oliver? You have done a fantastic job. I’m white and enjoy watching these colleges more so than others , better music selections, better dancing on the field! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Life with N and J yo opinion don’t matter, you act like they don’t know if they sound bad or not, but from looking at your RUclips channel I assume you know something about being bad🤣
Hey they did a great job! Hats off ASU! It takes extremely hard skill and talent to do this kind of work! Especially dance! The echo of the California hills is causing the echo not the band! So y’all quit being so critical of folks man! If you better you try it! They did an excellent job!
Good performance ! DM's were very conservative with their moves...a little shaky.....and needed more variation in their moves. Prairie View, Southern, Jackson St., N. Carolina A&T wouda brought more ! But Alabama still did good...sounded good and the Stingettes were breathtakingly beautiful.

Although now living in Mobile, AL I attended a HBCU -- Savannah State (Savannah, Georgia) in the 1970s on a Minority Scholarship (Shout out to all the Blue-eyed Soul Brothers!) and received the education of a lifetime! I was overjoyed to see Alabama State represent in this parade! And yes! They showed out FAMU! During my career in the USAF I continued to champion and herald the excellence of the education that awaits many youth! One thing I love about the culture of the HBCU is that it is inclusive and was ahead of its time before we knew what time it was! You feel me? Right On Alabama State! You brought the house and even though my heart remains with Savannah State, you made this old man proud!
Nice marching. The band sounded a little off. Not crisp. The band looks smaller too. But Hey! Still like watching this State School. All the way from Brooklyn NYC
I'm more impressed with Alabama State, because at least they didn't try to hide who they were. Since when did FAMU start playing the Star Wars theme when marching in parades?? I know they play SOS, and they used to play Backstabbers and I used to love when they did. Alabama stayed with their roots although the drum majors could use some work. The head especially, transitions are supposed to be a lot smoother
The STAR WARS song is a song that has long been a STAPLE in the FAMU repertoire and is one of the most HISTORIC and ICONIC FAMU shows ever. I believe that the FAMU staff probably wanted to add some nostalgia to their appearance.
Erica Jean-Louis this is a parade they play a variety of music, I guess what you’re accustomed to is their halftime performance and playing in the stand.
@@wandabradley8358 No, I'm not accustomed to anything because even though I'm in Florida I'm NOT a FAMU superfan. I've seen them March in several homecoming parades, ATL Classic parades, FL Classic parades and the Inaugural parade for Obama. So I'm not accustomed to anything
You try to reach your Audience in your Song Selection! I'm sure most of the ppl in attendance were familiar with and appreciated the Star Wars Theme selection. I'm not so sure they were familiar with or appreciated "Backstabbers"! But to each his own. Peace and Out!

Y'all played it real safe...these Cali white folks would've enjoyed some real Southern flavor...the freedom given to news anchors these days, they would've highlighted you guys cuz u would've added some needed flavor to the Rose parade. The Entertainment not the same ol same ol makes it worth being out there at the crack of dawn freezing our azz off. We can comw see the flower floats, get on them, take flowers the next day. If u guys are invited this year, i really hope ASU performs, not ASU-safety
The best Life Because they have been a disappointment for the last few years. From the halftime shows to the music. Oliver cant seem to recruit kids to come there and stay.
To their defense... They could actually be winded. The Rose Bowl is a long parade. Like 5 or 6 miles and starts early AM with a lot of prep. And the sound bounces off those buildings. It can make it seem like they’re out of tune at times. Plus BIG change of climate for them. Im from Cali. My brother was selected head All City drum major one year. He was winded without an instrument. He slept for hours afterwards.
Man..... we as bandheads joke about high schools sounding better than colleges, maybe this is karma towards the ears for going overboard at times😔 ima pray
The camera op needs to pay attention to the shot because this frame was all over the place. Could barely see anything interesting for a prolonged period of time.

Talk about a long parade this one will test your physical conditioning. Then you have to be focused and play as a team. So while you'll sitting on the sideline with the negativity, think of all the moving parts. You guys did well Bama and FAM. This coming from one 100% down The Human Jukebox. Yet we all have history and some of those same emotions will flow from hearing you as when I hear my band.. Luv you guys.
Michael - Indeed it does. I marched in the 1981 Tournament of Roses Parade, and it takes a big toll on you, especially flying from the east coast to the west coast (time difference).
both bands have their own sound why do i see so much hate on ASU be glad they had the chance to represent hbcu these us people in california well except me dont really know too much about an hbcu band so speak positive. negative ass people on here acting like they the best thing going. gone head AS AS ASU
because this sound like SHAT
BEAUTIFUL JOB !
Good look for all the HBCUs today
They did awesome!💥💥💥💯
Don't talk smack about anyone here unless you can walk 5.5 miles...in heels!!! God be with you..
The Human Jukebox will be there in 2020. Can't wait!!
let's hope they do better.
@@Cerl84 I have NO DOUBT that they will!!
I can, better find something for that DM to do, my bad he WON't be there.
My future school ! CO ‘23 💪🏾⚽️
Vocês são maravilhosos 👏👏👏❤😙
Awesome! Didn't see much of the ladies at the back though - what did they do?
I love watching ASU Marching Band. Although I went in the military after high school we had quite a large band and won competitions in PA. Drum majors are great. Band marches with pride and discipline. Obviously the sour comments are from people that have had no experience. I have been watching you on You Tube and have caught a little on tv. Is it Dr. Oliver? You have done a fantastic job. I’m white and enjoy watching these colleges more so than others , better music selections, better dancing on the field! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great opp and ASU looks good!! I’m going to assume the video just distorted the actual sound.
why are they all up on each other like damn, give some space.
Y’all stay trying to down talk 🤦🏾♂️ just give them they props and then click to another video 🤷🏾♂️
If they sound bad imma state my opinion
Life with N and J yo opinion don’t matter, you act like they don’t know if they sound bad or not, but from looking at your RUclips channel I assume you know something about being bad🤣
Yo....they sound bad. I actually like ASU but this was not good.
Hey they did a great job! Hats off ASU! It takes extremely hard skill and talent to do this kind of work! Especially dance! The echo of the California hills is causing the echo not the band! So y’all quit being so critical of folks man! If you better you try it! They did an excellent job!
All blame on the directors
Great video!❤
What happened to BBHMM, That’s on me, I like it like that? No code switching show out!!
DM’s so clean, as always for ASU.
Who is Carolina A&M?
@@ericford4490 I meant North Carolina A&T. Norfork State used to come thru HIGH & HARD stepping. Prarie View has a female head DM and they put on a show of variation .

@@wesgriffin6081 and they still do come hard. I know both schools very well.... NCAT alum and I love all my MEAC institutions
AAMU 2005 brought IT!
@@fanofmusic256 I just checked it out...ur right ! AAMU 2005 Rose Bowl Parade ...that's what I'm talking about ! They slayed from all Pts of view !
I cant wait to classic
LOOKING GOOD COMGRATULATION
the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ASU.. U GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
Nice marching.
The band sounded a little off. Not crisp. The band looks smaller too.
But Hey! Still like watching this State School. All the way from Brooklyn NYC
WHY NO BREAK DOWNS. Hell who don’t want to see a little popping and dancing🤷♂️
Parabéns lindos 👏👏👏👏😙 Brasil. ❤
worldwide!!!!
Erica Jean-Louis girl chillout. It wasn’t a competition
I try to say something nice sometimes. Good job playing the same note over and over again on that first song. 🤷♂️
Ich persönlich mein es nur gut was ihr daraus macht liegt in eure Hände es GEHT um eure Zukunft und um euer Leben. Und auch um DIE Zukunft eure Kinder und Enkel Kinder. Klaus - Dieter Scheffel. geb Burget
RESPECT!
And i just have to ask, why does ASU director always have to have an escort, man please?
smiley 24 we had escorts in my years in band 74-78. Usually there is more. Reason safety, if there is an emergency they need to scramble the parade, there is an officer there to direct them.
Why 4 drum majors?
Congratulations
Come asu I’ve heard better coming from y’all. But ima still support my dream school💛🖤
This is so hard to watch with that band sounding like that !
The best Life Because they have been a disappointment for the last few years. From the halftime shows to the music. Oliver cant seem to recruit kids to come there and stay.
Sounding like high school....wow!!!
He slept for hours afterwards.
boinkye FYI...Southern is one of the HBCU bands this year...watch and take note
@@geogreene949 Oh Im here watching for a reason... I know all about southern. Thx you. I was born in Calif... But not my parents...
The Stingettes strut never looked better. 5.5 miles WHEW Again great footage @ShowtimeWeb
Congrats
BEST MARCHING BAND N *HBCU*handsdown I even believe they surpass Marching bands in top Universities, and College's
Stingettes provided a "Boss Performance! "
What the hell!!! NO footage of the actual band???
Right!!??
OMG! The Drum Majors hit it at minute 5:55!!!
Can yall show the big girls at the back sometime....
Cold Steel was there too!

It gets stuck in your head and curious to say to become a habit.
Push through my fellow marching hornets fall2k07
The flag banner holders were to close made them look to bunched up and took away from the drum majors
HBCU representing ok now!!
I love you stingettes
LOVE A S U !!!
Why the dance captain all on the drum majors like that omg
Man..... we as bandheads joke about high schools sounding better than colleges, maybe this is karma towards the ears for going overboard at times😔 ima pray
Can’t help but be proud tho. 🤷🏽♂️
The camera op needs to pay attention to the shot because this frame was all over the place. Could barely see anything interesting for a prolonged period of time.
HBCU's did come back: .....Southern University #1 2020 Roses Parade
