The song was about a silver bicycle owned by band member Bob Calvert!

The Girl in the vid was Stacia Blake. She was 6ft 2" tall with a 52cm bust. (Very large breasts) In live performances she would dance completely naked, with the odd body paint. That was back in 1972 😉😊

"It was like Star Trek with long hair and drugs" - Lemmy on his time with Hawkwind.
Everyone was fried out of their brains on acid except for Lemmy who was cranked up on speed. They were a hell of a band!

Hawkwinds only big hit song sung by Lemmy! I love these guys and pretty much everything they've done, regardless of which incarnation of the band was going on. There is a real cool cover of this song by Canadian metal band Voivod that kicks a lot harder than the Hawkwind original. The big chick used to get naked on stage during their shows. These guys and Gong are the real deal when it comes to psychedelic music played by musicians who consume mass qualities of LSD.

I remember Stacia from the rock mags back in the 70s. Never got into Hawkwind back then though. Oh, well, better late, etc.
      Lemmy looks young-ish. 😅

@paulfenwick8767 Over here Paul, people mostly didn't want to know. I had no idea about them until Motorhead became a household name. Their records weren't stocked in any of the stores around here so I had no reference back when none of us had any reference. Once again, thank God Al Gore invented this here internet thing.

They payed a gig at my school, arranged just before this song was released, but which took place just afterwards. I was 11 at the time. It was great. We got Procol Harum next year. and Robin Trower twice after that. Kept getting them just before they hit the big time.

Blast from the past, cool seeing Lemmy even if the music is from a different show. Prog Rock or whatever you want to label them, another band that is its own genre with some interesting stuff, do Levitation or Space is Deep for more unique music from them. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥

It was a huge hit in the UK for them. BBC Top of the Pops asked them to appear on the show, the band said it wasn't really there kind of thing, but invited the BBC to a couple of live gigs to film them instead and make the video. The song is mainly recorded live (in Hawkwind fashion), but like you said not entirely played at the gig in the video. I first saw them in 1985.

The Lovely Stacia aka Stacia Blake. Born on December 26, 1952. So she's 71.
Lemmy went to an audition as a guitarist. It didn't work out. The bass player didn't show up so they asked Lemmy if he could play the bass 😎

The song was recorded live (the video was made as a promo for Top of the Pops, so not necessary the song but Stacia still had her clothes on ). The original vocals were by Bob Calvert but they were awful When they went to remix them but he was in a mental institution, a common occurrence during his life. New boy Lemmy was the only one who could do them properly. Calvert was always involved with the band and sang on the following single Guerrilla. Calvert went on to be their vocalist/song writer in 1976 for a few years. Steppenwolf and Hassan I Sabha are must listens

Live recording from the Roundhouse in Camden, London, February 1972 but overdubbed in the studio with a different vocal - the original singer Bob Calvert couldn't cover the full range so they tried out everyone in the band and Lemmy did it best. The video was done for Top Of The Pops (the BBC's weekly chart show) as the band refused to appear live and the footage I think is from Dunstable a few months later. The girl is Stacia, often appeared nude on stage but left a few years later, hooked up with one of the huys from New York Dolls, ended up an artist living in Ireland. I think the song's based on a book by Roger Zelazny and the follow up single Urban Guerilla got banned as it was about a guy who made bombs in his cellar released just as the IRA started a bombing campaign in Britain. Thats a good one to do, as is Uncle Sam's On Mars, Coded Languages, Angela Android or pretty much anything on any album up to 1992!

Lemmys autobio White Line Fever is an absolute mustread. There he told also the story of the song Silver Machine and why at least it didn't work with Hawkwind. The band was on weed but Lemmy. At that time he was a speed freak. Different drugs, different sense of time .... 🙂

Saw these guys a lot in high school, we would go to Stonhenge free festivals until the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher banned it as a threat to the sensibilities of the Daily Mail and all right-thinking people. The band were influenced by the 70s science fiction/fantasy of the time, particularly Michael Moorcock who performed with the band though in Lemmy's case amphetamines and booze fuelled his particular space trip, leading to him leaving to form the punk/metal Motorhead who I also followed in school. Space Ritual is the classic live recording, A real lysergic and anarchical but also cuddly and very friendly hippy band.

correct both of you, it's a fan video. the music is live and the video is from a different venue doing the same song.
The lady is called Stacia. She was a dancer who preformed live with them. She was pretty striking on stage. 6 foot 2 inches and often appeared naked apart from body paint.
Standard rock and far more interesting and less boring than ZZ Top!
