My Chemical Romance isn't fucking emo. Just because Welcome to the Black Parade, I'm Not Okay, and Teenagers are emo doesn't mean the band is. You have to look at more than just a handful of songs to determine a band's genre. Very few My Chem songs are actually emo, this is one that is far from. When 95% of My Chemical Romance's discography isn't emo, you can't call the band emo.

My cousin died today.
He was one. He'd been born with an atrophied spine. When I saw him last month, he didn't have enough strength to lift his hands. He could barely breathe by himself.
It was nobody's fault, other than luck's. If a couple chromosomes didn't arrange in the specific way they did, my cousin would still be toying in his bed, able to lead a normal life.

About two years ago, in a suicide note, I told my family to play this at my funeral. Now, coming back to it healthy and doing so much better, I can't help but cry. I never thought a song could have two totally different meanings to me until now. Thanks, MCR.
I've had a total of 6 suicide attempts in my life, all failed, but let me tell you something. I'm going to quote Adam Gontièr here and say it's not too late, it's never too late. This summer, I finally had enough of being in Arkansas, it broke me down to where I felt worthless and I was so numb to any emotion that I was unable to let out the tears I wanted to, but I solved it. I thought there was no way out with everything, but now I'm living up in Missouri (finally back after 6 years) with my grandparents and my life has gotten so much better. I thought it was hopeless, and I was so low. Rock bottom is nothing compared to where I was. I drilled through the earth and plummeted so far down, but I had the strength to move on. Just remember, you may not always be able to do something about it, but depression can always be helped. It will always exist, but much like fear, we can't let it consume our lives. The one thing I will say is only tell close friends and family because counselors send you to mental hospitals that make your mental health worse.
Edit: Now I'm living in Blue Springs with my father because my grandfather assaulted my sister. Hopefully I'll be back in Stockton next year.
Another edit: Nope, life fucking sucks again and I'm doing worse than I ever was before.

So... today my cat was poisoned and died in my arms, looking in my eyes, quietly listening to the lullaby i sang just for him since he was little, i still can't believe that i won't be singing to him anymore, that we won't cuddle to sleep and he won't annoy me with his never ending meows. it hurts like hell that someone took the light behind his eyes and i won't be able to sing him to sleep and protect him anymore.

I lost my uncle to suicide 4 years ago. It's been 4 years and I haven't stopped grieving. I think about him everyday. His laugh is only a memory now. The first time I hear about MCR, I thoght that they would be a trash. I was to wrong.
This was one of the first songs that I heard, and I could feel the message there, and then I decide to hear all their music.
Now I'm a huge fan, even if I know them five years after they broke up. But it dosen't really matter, because they make part of my life, hearing them when I feel bad or when I'm okay.

Gosh. After all this years, this is still one of my most favorite song ever. The meaning and emotions that Gerard invested in this song is too much. It's suffocating enough that it makes your heart ache.
This song was played at my best friend's funeral 4 months ago and I cry every single time. She and I loved MCR and I knew she'd want this at her funeral. I listen to it to feel closer to her. Thank you, MCR. Thank you.

I can hear what Gerard is trying to say. Even without the band (or the reference to himself in this song), he would want us to be stronger than what we were before. He wants us to carry on and keep living, stronger, better, and faster. He would never let anyone take away what is your special connection with him. Even if you had never met Gerard, he still has a connection with you. Every time you comment on one of his videos or Instagram pictures, he gets a notification. You don't think that sometimes he might go through those comments and read them and think of how much love both sides have for one another? He is so grateful of us for inspiring and staying with him through all of the ups and downs he has been through. He wants us to be as strong as he is, and eventually, as strong as he was.

It feels like he is saying to continue to be strong and fight through the opposing forces in your life that bring you down, never let these set backs discourage you and to hold onto hope. I particularly like the lyric "If I could be with you tonight I would sing you to sleep," because it feels like he is saying that each time we are losing the will to live he wants to be there to console us. Similar to how a mother sings their child to sleep when they are crying.

MCR has no idea how much they've helped me. I've been so close to attempting suicide multiple times and have been able to calm myself by just listening to their music but more specifically this song. It has this way of being able to make me cry and drain my feelings but even though im crying, it's helping me in a way. It's like if Gerard, Mikey, Ray, and Frank are telling me themselves that i'll be okay and that i should continue living. I am now 2 months clean and i know it's not much but it is to me. Their music is so important to me and i can't ever thank them enough for what they've done for me. Even if i'm not 100% okay right now, i always have MCR as a reminder that i will be okay and thatthings will get better. It takes patience and time but eventually this dark hole that i've been stuck in for years will fade to light and i'll finally be able to enjoy myself with no catch. I can't stop crying right now, im sorry.

In seven days, I'll be six months clean of self harm. But the world seems to have been trying to break me this month... My dad told me that he would not support my descision to beome a makeup artist and took away all of my makeup. My mom told me she's thinking of leaving my dad. My youth leader cancelled the only good part of my year every year. I'm having to accept the fact that I'm not going to be be able to compete in music like I used to, since I've missed over a year of practicing because of injuries... I almost relapsed, but then this song came on shuffle, and damn it hit me so hard.

I actually found this song without being depressed or in a mental breakdown or something. Im shocked by how many comments I see from people who are going through a difficult time. I’ve had my phase too, I was sad a lot of times and I was introvert as well.
In the end I’m only quite dissapointed in myself that I’ve let it come so far. It doesn’t have to be like this, how f’ed up everting might be, getting yourself in a slur of sadness and self-pity will never solve anything!
Focus on the things you like, I found a lot of happiness and confidence by going to the gym and by working hard for what I want in the process of education. Get your sad ass of your bed, go lift some weights and work for what you want, you’ll find yourself and happiness with consistency and progress.

Honestly i think this was the song that prevented me forming having an actual attempt or plan and helped me through the trauma of thinking i almost watched my “best friend” commit suicide in front of me(she was insanely abusive and it was more of a ploy to control me with my empathy and concern, very complex situation).
