I think for me its about power, our motivation, almost like an anthem, knowing that these lyrics dont have the words 'l'll carry on' its "we'll carry on'. 'We'll' means that there is someone else with us we are not alone when there is a we and this is an army. Our army. Its motivational, powerful, its saying to ourselves knowing that we have other peoples backs but also we know during the black parade that other people have our backs too. It's the one place we won't be disappointed, well carry on. The black parade is an army where you can finally be brave and know that people are there with you to help you through, and be scared with you, and to give you those few seconds of life to hold onto when you thought that you didnt have the strength to hold on any longer. People, life, society, even a bad day will do what they want to us, in this song it is like we are surrendering not out of failure or out of giving up hope, but we are surrendering to other people, society, and life so we can finally leave it all behind after accepting the bad things. It's like a delicious hunger finally fulfilled It's like facing up to a bully let them do what they want, let them show others who they really are like, let them get caught in their own darkness because in the end we'll carry on, let them breathe their lies and rumours about us, let them have their judgements, gossip, let them have what they want, let them win, let's face the bad so we can make it good, and we together just like in the black parade well carry on together. It's like karma to me. Or a bad business or customer service even let them have their bad service we'll just carry on to another one a business who deserves us. Saying the words we'll carry on is like saying goodbye to the bad after we have recieved it whether willingly or not. ok we got the bad now lets carry on to the good and we know who take take with us on this journey. Same. I didn't want to listen to most music of the genre, because I was a little piece of garbage at the time, but as an adult it was so important and more helpful now that I have a deeper knowledge of myself.
You know, having read the Lyrics, I think this song is relatively inspiring and uplifiting. I think it's the story of a person who, after learning their father is terminally ill, their mother already long since passed, and having experienced tragedy, loss, and pain, is being begged not to take their own life but instead stand as an inspiration to others suffering similarly, and the final chorus is the person remaining humble, acknowledging that they are continuing on, not because they believe they're some grand savior or hero, but because they wish to honor their father's last wishes and keep going despite everything, and the uplifting tone of the instrumentals near the end denotes that once they make it through their suffering, there's peace and happiness on the other end.
THIS, YES! This is why I love this song. It's a very uplifting song to me that makes me want to keep chugging on even though the world feels like a burning hell
It's much darker and political than that... there are multiple clues in the lyrics. His dad wants him to be the savior of the broken... but, he "doesn't care at all" about what his dad thinks... because "The Broken" is who we are, don't need saving... and he's not going to apologize to his dad for this stance. The broken don't need saving. But, when his dad is dead and gone, he'll be left broken and defeated because his son doesn't want to be the savior of The Broken like he wanted him to be. But, he'll remember his dad anyway...memory will carry on.
In 2015 my brother died at the young age of 20, I was only 17, I remember years before he died he showed me this song on his iPod, that I actually took just to listen to this song, fast forward to 2016, I ended up in a psych ward for a suicide attempt, this song played on the radio so much that week I was there, idk i just know that was my brother 100% I still cry and miss him everyday, I have 2 kids now, and I'm 25 , so much has changed for the good and bad, but we carried on. Honestly, the opening piano alone is such a powerful resonating feeling for me. I was 11 when this album first dropped, and I had already known and liked Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, but this felt so different. I heard it talked about by friends throughout middle and high school, it truly was a 2000s emo kid's rallying anthem that makes me almost wish those times returned. How the internet used to be, what life was like for me back then, the culture difference, it's all so thoroughly captured in just the opening minute of the song alone. It's like coming back to a very old friend, where the bond is so strong that you don't even need to talk, just being able to enjoy each other's presence; no need for catching up, because no matter how long you've been away, you two just work perfectly.
Hearing the part where he sings “your weary widow marches on” gives me renewed strength. I don’t want to leave my girl to have to fend for herself in this cruel world. I have to keep trying

When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" He said, "Will you defeat them? Your demons, and all the non-believers The plans that they have made?" "Because one day, I'll leave you a phantom To lead you in the summer To join the black parade" When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" Sometimes I get the feelin' She's watchin' over me And other times I feel like I should go And through it all, the rise and fall The bodies in the streets And when you're gone, we want you all to know We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart, I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it A world that sends you reelin' From decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all So paint it black and take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end, we hear the call To carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches On and on, we carry through the fears Oh, ah, ha Disappointed faces of your peers Oh, ah, ha Take a look at me, 'cause I could not care at all Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are Just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song Just a man, I'm not a hero I don't care We'll carry on, we'll carry on And though you're dead and gone, believe me Your memory will carry on You'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches, oh Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on) Do or die, you'll never make me (we'll carry on) Because the world will never take my heart (we'll carry on) Go and try, you'll never break me (we'll carry on) We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on!)
I have loved this song from the beginning. Its not: emo" its poignant about life and people that cared enough to give advice. And that we carry on with them with us even after they have passed ❤ It's just awesome 😂😢❤
The start with the piano makes me wanna cry so sad reminds me of my regrets in life.then song really builds up and id positive and powerful and such an anthem.one of greatest rock songs ever written.
You guys do realized that you don't have to be emo in order to like these kinds of songs? For example, I'm a hard rock fan, but I'm not emo, depressed, nor am I edgy.
When I was a young boy, my father Took me into the city to see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up would you be The savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?" Han Taesan, i dont know that this is your favorite song too. I just know that you like MCR just like me, and I didnt expect that we like the same song too.
Rip my drumming brother and mom you both did good in this life and will be missed 😢
I think his voice in the beginning with just the one note piano is just beautiful 😍
Rest in paradise Bob Bryar 😢
Anyone in July 2024 listening to this
Sup
I was not emotionally prepared for how much of a fucking banger this song was, I have no idea how it took me this long to listen to it but hot damn
Im excited about My Chemical Romance Tour Yeah Baby!!!❤❤❤
The memories this song brings it takes me back to those emo days, god times with some good people
I might not be emo but I have a whole scenario in my head thanks to this song
You're not the only one
Same here
Same here
Man I almost cried with this song, divine music, my chemical romance should be better known in the world ❤️❤️
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"
He said, "Will you defeat them?
Your demons, and all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?"
"Because one day, I'll leave you a phantom
To lead you in the summer
To join the black parade"
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"
Sometimes I get the feelin'
She's watchin' over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall
The bodies in the streets
And when you're gone, we want you all to know
We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart, I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it
A world that sends you reelin'
From decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end, we hear the call
To carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
On and on, we carry through the fears
Oh, ah, ha
Disappointed faces of your peers
Oh, ah, ha
Take a look at me, 'cause I could not care at all
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
Just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care
We'll carry on, we'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches, oh
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on)
Do or die, you'll never make me (we'll carry on)
Because the world will never take my heart (we'll carry on)
Go and try, you'll never break me (we'll carry on)
We want it all, we wanna play this part (we'll carry on!)
I have loved this song from the beginning. Its not: emo" its poignant about life and people that cared enough to give advice. And that we carry on with them with us even after they have passed ❤ It's just awesome 😂😢❤
Some people just don't hear the lyrics or just don't try to understand the meaning of them.
It's called emo because it's emo rock.
A genre.

This song simply cannot be played at anything other than max volume. I very rarely sing, but I always sing along to this one.
You guys do realized that you don't have to be emo in order to like these kinds of songs? For example, I'm a hard rock fan, but I'm not emo, depressed, nor am I edgy.

R.I.P Bob 😢
This gives me the vibes of someone who found pictures of their dead dad in the attic, and starts reminiscing on the happy and sad times.
The "Come Sail Away" of the 2000's decade, I suppose.
That or bohemian rhapsody. Not quite a Freebird, but what is?
