Thanks for the tips! Can I add, it's also good to familiarise with the chord progressions - gives you a sense of direction as to where the melody leads towards and options as to what harmony choices you can use.

literally no one has explaineed this to me before and I'm thinking people just know by ear and its a guessing game D: its so simple, because I know all this in theory through playing clarinet but not from singing a harmony context (basically all the arpeggios I've been practising :P )
Oh perfect! Yes, it can all be worked out and explained with theory… glad it’s making sense to you! I’m sure it will come quickly with your music background in clarinet. 😊
Well, I'm not sure if it's just due to my music experience, but I find it easier to make up a harmony for a new song straight away without learning the melody.. :)
