- In the silence and solitude of the Alaskan Wilderness I built a cabin. Pouring rain and swarms of mosquitos slowed progress but, at last, the cabin is taking shape. I am off-grid and for the most part, completely alone.
All the music in this video was written and recorded by myself and Forest Wilson. Thanks to Forest and Tim @TruckHouseLife for helping me build this thing.

Back when Dick Proenneke built his spruce saddle notch cabin out at Twin Lakes, they dropped him off in a seaplane, so he makes an axe, makes a chisel and used them to whittle it.... He was 50, no genset, no compressor, no nail gun, no lumber.... just an axe, chisel and two big balls.
Yup, he was the real deal, I am not.

Your spare cabin is coming along great. I absolutely love your music. It's the type my Dad would love to listen too. It would remind him of growing up in the Pennsylvania mountain range and the blue grass boys would sit a while and pick at- he would say. So I grew up listening to it too. Really enjoy your videos and your music is a huge part of it.

Greetings from Ireland. We don't build much walls with timber, usually just roof... but its becoming more common, we do have the same summer weather though 😂😂😂
My dad has a second little farm away from my house, I think I'm going to build something like this there in the future.

Nicely done Matt! A lot accomplished in just a few days in spite of the weather and mosquitos. I would imagine the mosquitos are pretty thick with the lake at your front door. They are a pesky nuisance for sure.
They can get pretty bad, but this year may be the worst I’ve seen. Thanks for watching!

That’s how it’s done when you’re mostly by yourself. Good job! It was a little painful to watch in places because of the inexperience, but it’s still well built and square. And at some point it’s going to be very cozy.

Hello from Wisconsin! Nice work! I see your careful and good at doing the figuring. I had to giggle at your dog, when the big raindrops came, went inside shook off....didn't work....still rainin'😄! Just the way it is in mid build. I always learn something new. I see the way some builders have little wood tacked on the edge to stand up walls& keep them from slipping there, you used the same thing for the ridge piece..GREAT IDEA....THANKS!

Look at Diesel heater mount fuel cell outside, extend Exhaust up. Vent in come from inside cabin ( heat warm air not cold !

Knowing the wind and snow loads up there I'm a little surprised at the shallow pitch of the roof. I would have thought 45 degrees would be better and allow for a nice loft area.
