Trivial story of a ”rice variety"

The Tropical Agriculture Research Front conducts research related to rice breeding. What kinds of rice are there and how many are there? What are these "varieties"? In Japan, there are "common varieties" and "registered varieties" as defined by law. There are various types and classifications. You may have heard of "indica" or "japonica", but what are they? This classification could be both understandable and unknowable. There are many varieties of rice in the world, but be careful when bringing rice into Japan or out of the country, as there are various regulations such as intellectual property rights.
