Hi.. I really enjoy watching your VDO clips and I hope there's no rain to spoil your journey like the previous day. The weather is getting colder and colder these days since winter is approaching so pl. take care of your health and have a nice journey and a happy stay in our country.
I went to the long neck Karen village long before tourism stepped in as part of the first excursion survey (1989) to the village. It looks totally different now.
Hello! I am so proud of you and your husband, you are going to visit the Karen people, but did you know that the Karen people have a few different people? Some Karen people have long necks, me I’m Karen too but my mom isn’t Karen long neck 🥰 There I think you will experience a lot. I'm glad for you.
Thank you! 🥰 we actually didn’t know much about the hill tribes at all before coming here! It was cool to learn a little about the different tribes and see the differences between them. ❤️
We were there in 2008, we paid $500. Bath .But it was more long neck tribes that you really can see more of them works but ,when they take pictures with you ,and they’re exspecting some tips from you.😂😂. I knew the Burmese Gov; wanted them to go back to Myanmar ASAP .!
Oh wow so long ago! I’m sure they were also struggling after covid. We just tried to buy lots of little souvenirs from different people there. It was really interesting to learn about the different hill tribes!
@@NataliesPassport All the hill tribes in Thailand the village in this video show you how to solved so many problem not only erned money from people and tourists for their living but tourism It's very important for them even though you both knew it they didn't lived this village before.that's the village built up for give them had a chance to living by themselves.selling souvenirs and farming for their living I think only this skill they had a great job instead growing poppy like in the past.Yeah that you knew. It's hard time for them and everyone in the last few yrs.bcuz pandamic my guess. So that's why Tourism is very important for them and Thailand now.As you guys knew it for the other area at the north of TL. there're so many Royal project from the king's family very successful thousand of the projects can help so many tribes in Thailand. That's why all hill tripe they love the king Rama IX the great. you can see their product in 7-11 and all store over TL.in the name "Doi Kham" name that's all I can tell.
I don’t get this touristy hill tribe village at all. For the long neck Karen it’s acceptable because they’re recently fled away from the conflicts in Myanmar and they have no citizenship. But for the Akha and the Yao(Mien) is like what the heck they’re doing there. Their migration to Thailand maybe recent but it was like more than 100 years ago. Shouldn’t they have the citizenship and everything already?
😭 I have no idea! It was all new to us so we liked being able to learn about the different tribes. But it is crazy to think how long some of them have lived here yet still aren’t citizens 😱
@@NataliesPassport Well, the Akha living there might’ve migrated later than the one living in Pa Hee and Pa Mee village. That’s why they didn’t granted citizenship yet then. Because there’s always new waves of refugees from Myanmar coming to Thailand especially in this time.
They're not Thai, they’re refugees from Burma. The Thai government only provides them with safety and support for a better life. The Thai government educates them and gives them an opportunity to profit off tourism and earn a living. They’re not treated as pets or animals.
I answer like a local Thailand (ChiangMai). I disagree with this hill tribe model village. Because it's like bringing a human to a show like animal zoo. Sometimes a businessman who is for profit It came to be in the form of a foundation.
It did feel weird like that at times 😭 I’d like to hope that most of the money does go to helping the hill tribes, but we aren’t sure. Thanks for letting us know as a local!
Hope they quit this dangerous custom soon. It's very deliberating for Karen women. Because this is their choice and freedom on their own bodies. We respect that. But in modern world, long neck custom can be a difficulty for education and migration. I know they want to go back to myanmar but Karen kids need education. Thai people want to offer more opportunity but they just need to be more adapted.
Yeah, I could see it holding them back. I just hope they’re still doing it as part of their culture and not that they have to for money from tourists! It was really interesting to learn about the different bill tribes though as that’s something we had no idea about!
There're many new generation of karen has stopped their own culture to be city-citizen. It's gonna be good for their life in a long term. So there're had less karen people in their old style. That's the reason why it's look like a fake things.
The villages you visit are fake and neither is right nor wrong. Because it is like a center for various hill tribes in Thailand gathered in one place for people to travel and learn. The villages they actually live in are often in hard to reach and dangerous places. Most of them have no access to electricity and are difficult to travel. Because these tribes are immigrants from Burma and China. They were often on the tops of mountains and in the beginning were often in contact with thieves or transnational drug cartels. These tribes grew opium to sell to drug dealers in the Golden Triangle. After the reign of King Rama IX of Thailand took part in a project to improve the quality of life for the tribes, they turned to other economic crops and stopped growing opium. An example that people know in Thailand and are bringing to the global market by starting in Thailand to Japan is The coffee brand "Akha Ama" has a logo depicting an Akha tribal woman. The Akha hill tribe people get coffee beans from the king to plant and develop until they open a coffee shop. It started from Chiang Mai and then went to Japan.
The area where they lived next to the border was often fought in the old days. from internal affairs in Burma and various drug dealers. Often there were humanitarian organizations and missionaries from America who contacted them to help them. But actually accessing the village is still quite difficult.
@@NataliesPassport If you want to enter the villages of these hill tribes you will need to contact the local village leaders who are in contact with the tribes as guides. Or contact the organization that oversees the tribe or volunteer teachers and missionaries who deal with these hill tribes. Since the early refugees came, they came along natural paths, mostly on the hills. And in the 70-80s on these mountains, besides being the route of drug cartels It is also a battlefield of communist armed groups with Thai soldiers. Their villages are located in the provinces on the border of northern and western Thailand. In the Andaman Sea there is a tribe called the Moken people who call them the Gypsies of the Sea. In Southern Thailand there is another tribe called Sakai who live in the deep forests of Southern Thailand. To contact them only had to contact local leaders who had been in contact with these tribes.
I like that you have lived like the Thais..visiting places and stoping by some random restaurants and ordering our simple comfort food.
We've stopped by so many great little restaurants while traveling in Thailand! 😍

Yesss - it was our first time seeing them! 😱
I feel sad for how they do in this hill tribe villages. They should present differently. It looks like human zoo, very sad.
It could definitely be presented in a much better way than it is!
