This is absolutely brilliant! Amazing for 1968. I like the way that when the song starts it sounds perfectly normal but then gets increasingly disjointed, treated and deconstructed into a real head-trip. The influence of the likes of Terry Reilly and Steve Reich cannot be understated. True visionaries. Bands such as Severed Heads and Cabaret Voltaire were doing the same sort of tape manipulations in the late 70s and 80s. God knows what the hippies would have made of this! Could this be one of the first remixes as we know them today?
Easily the most underrated performer, arranger & producer on the planet. He barely gets credit for things and ideas that he has come up with. So ahead of his time. This one is from 1968. Its still ahead of its time now.
An extremely belated "thank you" to Kathy L., who introduced me to A Rainbow in Curved Air by Mr. Riley in 1969....I think. I mean I think it was her, and I think it was 1969, and I think it was A Rainbow in Curved Air.
First off, I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to the original song ever again. And also, my self esteem seems to be at a very low level now for some reason....
Given the source material this has to be the most aggressive thing Riley has ever done. Does anyone know if this was ever played at the night club it was intended for?
Open this in 10 tabs at once and achieve pure nirvana
this is the most Terry Riley-ish thing to do. actually tried it... great results!
I love it
+Kumat Mebro Indeed trying this with a bunch of stuff is great. I did it last week with Voodoo Chile x 15 tabs with minimal delay.
+Kumat Mebro absolutely what he was doing. a lot easier now we dont have to spend hours with a razor blade splicing tapes.
I started one at 7 minutes then opened 5 other tabs in 5 second splits from the start. Shit is getting weird.

I love the original song, but Jesus we used to listen to this so much in college. Warped our brains for good

terry rileys music overwhelms the bandwith of my wireless headphones
Best after break up song. Really the only.
sick of you by the stooges is a good one too
ouch guess what happened to me today
Hell, I used to trip with this while I was 20+ and now it still sounds geat! And no, I'm not tripping now.
Amazing. The opening beats Throbbing Gristle to the evil synth sound by nearly a decade
At about 2 and a half minutes it goes from Throbbing Gristle to J Dilla lol
Astonishing aspect of Terry Riley who I am fan of for ca. 39 years now. (I'm 59 years now. :) ) Now I found a certain kind of music for myself. ;)
This is absolutely mind-blowingly awesome!
Trying to do your history homework with this is an experience
so he pretty much invented hip hop beat making
Beginning reminds me of the whirring sound of the barber cutting your hair with that electronic device
this is absolutely fucking incredible
trippy sound ! psychedelic implications are clear !

My brain. I love it.
Basically if you’re in the mood to have a horrific trip just put this on lol
Mind officially blown.
Oh, I was using this for a daily affirmations tape!

OH MY GOD.... I have just found the original record in my collection, but this version is the BEES-BOLLOCKS!
Best phase piece ever
Every Breakup at the end of time
13:43 am I slowly losing my mind.
At 4:45 it's basically a J Dilla track, except 40 years earlier.
