I want a puffer fish. They’re honestly so cute. Learning as much as I can about them before getting one. So sorry to hear about Wilbur. RIP. Poor little guy.
Can’t wait to get started, I really needed this video!! Thank you so much!! I also hate you lol 😂 I’m getting my first tank and have been researching for quite a while you finally made me accept that I must wait for my puffer fish 😞RIP Wilbur 😢 Here for Krak!!
I love puffers, kept a lot of different ones... You did an easy but rookie mistake. Great that you are doing a video about it. What you should have done, is feed whatever he/she wants util it looks healthy, THEN, you starve them up to 3 weeks. And I have kept a lot of puffers. They eat whatever after those 3 weeks. So feed for 2 months 4-6 times a week, then starve. He is now so used to get food a lot, so similar to people getting stuck in the woods without food, They will eventually eat anything! If you try again. Do that. We all do mistakes, and I also share mine. So people will not do the same mistakes. Great video. I have not kept this one, but it is my dream puffer. So I will one day. Peace :-)
Poor Wilbur hopefully your knowledge can help many more Wilbur’s out there. I have just got a tiny boxfish 3 1/2 weeks ago who is doing fantastic so sassy eating well and growing already! He loves krill too should I be cautious regarding lockjaw too?
I Love box fish! They too have great personalities! And yes, krill can cause lockjaw in any fish. It’s just really common in puffers as lots of puffers become picky in what they eat
I had a puffer who my now ex husband just lived with all our hearts, he was just like a dog and was always so excited when he saw either one of us his little face he would smash up against the side of the tank it would make us laugh, I think your video was very informative and your tank is beautiful
I already have a pufferfish, named Pookie because they love to eat and to poop, but now I want to get them a couple of friends. Porcupines might be the way to go and I could name them Mr and Mrs Puff because I love Mrs. Puff from Spongebob.
Porcupine puffers are excellent in a aggressive tank! Queen, clown, undulated triggers leave them alone! Even had one in a stonefish tank! Of coarse you were forced to feed live, but as you stated, he would always be able to hand feed brine! They do catch everything, but they are tuff as nails because of that. After 30+ years in the hobby, I was never able to keep them from nibbling on corals.
Honestly, I think I got pretty lucky on that. But I might attribute most of my luck with that to the fact that I introduced the yellow tang into the tank at the same time as a powder blue tang, some chromis, and a damsel. I think when you introduce lots of fish at once, everyone feels new again 🤷♂️ and no one gets singled out. Also, you’re entered! 🤣
@@tylerhuxford44 thank you and I definitely agree with the lucky piece! I have two female bellus angels and they are hermaphroditic so it’s been real stressful but now they have calmed down and my favorite torch is a dragon soul
I’ve never really kept up on genders… don’t know that I could tell you what gender all my gosh are 😅 but my best recommendation would be to find a small one
Sorry to hear about Wilbur 😢 Very helpful video. I was wondering how often do you feed them? I'm been recommended every 2 days and they're eating shrimp. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you! And I would actually recommend feeding them everyday. Reason being, there are a few stories of puffer fish going rogue out there and either eating fish or invertebrates. It’s best just to keep a puffer fed in my opinion so that he never even thinks about eating live 😅
I bought a porcupine puffer fish last night and immediately bought it muscle with the shell which is the most important part of owning a puffer u 💯 need to feed things like crabs oystersin shell and muscles and clams the most important part is shell on. What u described was cause by not giving foods with shells puffers beaks never stop growing and wen they dont have shells to help trim them down they eventually wont be able to open their mouth big enough to eat which is wat u decribed it has nothing to do with nutrients ur video is good but u left out the most important part which is why im posting this my puffer was eating within an hr of being introduced to my tank last night Sorry about wilbur it really sucks to lose and member of ur fishy fam
I agree with this, it will ultimately depend on the space you have in the tank. Some of us like to cram our tanks with live rock 😅 should have clarified there!
@Seamus McMastersHe would just puff up at random mostly. No instigation, no cause, he would just do it. The only time I ever really saw him puff up for cause is when we would use the net to try and catch him

You have a video explaining how to run a salt water aquarium? I’m switching from fresh water to salt water.

Are you able to keep a Puffer by themselves? Or do they need to have other puffers or fish with them?
You can keep them by themselves! Lots of people do in fact 💪
My tank is 75 gallons but is five feet long is that big enough for one
For a year or two yes!
