    Nice Vid! I set up a saltwater tank specifically because I wanted clowns. The biggest hurdle was disease. I set up a quarantine tank for a pair of clowns that I think had flukes, and I could never get the quarantine to balance correctly. That tank kept killing fish. I found out I could get pre-medicated/quarantined fish so waited 3 months then bought a couple clowns that had gone through that service. I should have done that from the get go. It would have saved me a lot of money and heartache.

    Yeah my 2 clowns got ich. The female sadly didn’t make it. But a freshwater dip with a ph buffer for 3 minutes seemed to help my other clown. The clown looked the same afterward, but in a couple days it seemed to look better, and it made a full recovery.

She keeps pointing at fish that are just infants and asking if we can have them, but itll be something like a pleco or a discus- anyways its pretty painful but maybe i can get her sated with a salt water aquarium years from now lol

    I envy anyone who can keep a saltwater tank. It’s only a dream of mine to have such a tank. I’ve had freshwater fish for years (20+ off and on) and have had a horrible time keeping my water perimeters correct. . Especially the PH. I’ve purchased every diff chemical under the sun to try bringing down my ph but they never seemed to work. I took a sample of my water to my local fish store and after a few recommendations, the fish guy told me he really didn’t know what else to do. Ugh. So I just went with keeping a higher PH type of fish.
    Thank goodness for RUclips so I can look at other peoples reef/saltwater tanks! ❤

      It's not. Almost all water near the shore has pollution in it even when it looks clean. You'd have to go out pretty far into the ocean to get water that's safe for them and even then you're risking adding in pests from the wild that you wouldn't get from just mixing your own salt with RODI water.

    Will clowns host in boloceroides mcmurrichi (Swimming anemones)? They are more related to the pest aiptasia anemones than they are to the bubble tip, carpet, and the magnificent anemone and I already brought mine home from the sea after finding out (I was confident that it will be a hardy anemone after seeing it swim and after seeing a few dozen in one area only because a swimming anemone must quickly adapt to new environments right?) and after 3 months, it is still alive and in the same rock. I might have to release it back if it can't host clowns. (Also why don't I have fish in my tank for 3 months? All stores nearby are closed and from where I am from, delivery is too expensive so I'm just waiting for a store to open up)

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 года назад +1

      I thought the nem was going back Jay?! I've never been brave enough to keep a nem but apparently showing the clowns a video of clownfish in a nem can help! True story. Mine went fine with my Midas, but the clowns are grumpy and chase anything that gets within 6 inches of their spot.

    • @super9187
      @super9187 3 года назад

      My Midas Blenny keeps my clown fish aggression in check. Anytime she starts bullying the other fish he intervenes. He is by far the best personality in the tank. My clown still pretty small though so let’s see how long it lasts!
      Just be aware that they can burrow, mine loves spitting sand now and then! I don’t mind cleaning the corals from sand as it is in phases.

  • @-Wreckanize-
    @-Wreckanize- 3 года назад +23

    Also to add:
    If your clown has white spots, it could be a disease or it was just playing in the sand.
    If your clown is swimming towards a powerhead, it could be a disease or it’s just playing with the flow.
    If your clown is laying motionless against the overflow grates, it could be dead or it’s just playing with the flow.
    These fish are called “clowns” for a reason.

    royal gamma's are peaceful i was under the impression they are more territorial?
    on other note tho are you planning on making a video on all the common bacteria's in the saltwater hobby i can't find anything that discusses and actually shows all the types of bacteria like dino, bubble algae etc. i know what bubble algae looks like now but idk what dino looks like and i can't even recall any other names rn. i know what ich looks like no idea what marine velvet looks like all the videos i see are just about youtubers randomly saying " i know there are some dino spots there" but never point to the area
    idk if this made any sense but would love a video of such topic

    I don't own a clownfish, but I will say this: Just because they don't "require" an anemone, it doesn't mean you shouldn't get one. If you want to give your clownfish the best life possible, the best idea is to get an anemone for the aquarium.

    Phosphate Hanna checker:
    1. you're supposed to mix it GENTLY for 2 minutes... that did not look gently to me 🤣🤣
    2. you're going to get more accurate results if you avoid gripping the cuvette in the middle of the glass, so you don't transfer oils from your fingers.
