- For a long time I've wanted a photo backpack that fits my Canon RF 600mm f/4 L IS with the camera attached AND that I can still take on the plane as hand luggage. This is exactly what the Nya-Evo Fjord 60-C Econyl promises. In this review, I talk about my experiences, advantages and disadvantages.

I love this pack! I've been using it for the past few months, mainly for going out in nature. It's impressive how much it can hold, and at the same time be comfortable to carry on a hike. If I don't need to bring as much, I can easily compress it. The materials used for this pack are also quite remarkable. I really like it 👌
I settled on the non-recycled version of this bag a few years ago (only because the re-cycled version was not out yet!) and have generally been very happy with it. It's the most versatile bag I've found that essentially goes from 42l to 60l+ letting you carry nearly and combination of camera gear and hiking necessities. Other brands offer good or even better solutions at both ends of the scale but lock you in more or less so often your bag is a bit too small or total overkill.
One major area of improvement I would mention are the two side pouches which are too small. The opening needs to be bigger (a 1litre Nalgene bottle barely fits) or even better, the pouches are replaced by a Molli system so the user can add pouches or pockets depending on preference/need.
More an optimization than a fault, I would have preferred thinner, wider shoulder straps and waist belt as I believe the width plays a greater role in wearer comfort than the thickness of the padding - this change would probably shave a few hundred grams off the overall weight which is my last source of criticism: the bag with L or XL RCI is well over 4kg total weight which is over half the "official" carry-on weight allowance of most airlines before you have put a single piece of camera equipment in. That said, I recently flew Singapore Airlines with an XL-RCI containing a Z8, Z6ii, Z 800 PF, Z 100-400, 24-120, 1.4x tc, and four batteries. Total weight about 13kg but due to the unobtrusive appearance, was able to bring it as carry-on, no issues.

A very good thorough review. You were apparently having a lot of issues with bugs whilst filming and I could really feel your discomfort (midges, mosquitoes and practically every other kind of bugs seem to love feasting on me 😬). So much so that I ended up itching along with you.

I’ve been using this bag for a year now. I was sold by the recycled materials and the roll top which is indispensable here in the colder months.
It’s still a hikable camera bag and not a hiking backpack that you can put gear in, but it works for up to 6 hour hikes.
I can fit an 800mm 6.3, a 400 4.5 a 1.4TC and a Z8 - yeah that’s a heavy pack.
Yes, that‘s true, there seems to be no proper hiking bag for photography
I'm throwing out the flipside trek 450 as an option because i've used it for years and its brilliant. That said I can fit a 100-400mm 25mm 12-60mm and 30mm as well as two bodies, DJI Pocket 2 and other accessories because of the m43 advantage ;)

Thanks for the great review, of all the backpacks you own or tried so far what is your first choice? I have very similar gear and need something to carry two bodies with lenses attached, a 500 F4 and the 100 to 500. Thank you.
I think for that combination I would go for the Nya-Evo Fjord 60. if I need to transport my 600/4 and 100-300/2.8, then I prefer my f-stop Shinn

I love the backpack but can you please provide details on your camouflage rain guard/skirt seen around the 1minute mark in your video? I have one but it’s loud and makes rustling noise and is small. The material of yours looks supple… Any details you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Will this fit a gripped r5 or r5 mark 2. What other gear did you put in there since it is 60L? How does it compare to the Gura Gear Kiboko 2.0 30L or 30L+?
I am in the market for a bag for my R5m2+Grip+RF600F4 and my R5m1+Grip+RF100-500. Other than the Kiboko 2.0, nothing else claims to fit in the overhead bin with this loadout on an international flight. Thanks!

Yes, it should also fit a gripped R5. I have both tested the Gura Gear, but 30L seems a bit smaller 😉

But i am confused as to how one could hold twice the volume of the other and still fit in an overhead bin. I did see the extra bit on the top that seems to extend upwards to hold extra volume but be tucked away when not used, but to go from 30L to 60L? That needs some more explanation to me. I say this as someone who is serious about purchasing one of these two bags to hold my gear on my planned overseas trips in 2025. I really need to make the right decision. Thanks for making this option known to me. I will be looking around for more info.
