    I got the 60--C as soon as they came out. Checked out other packs on various "10 Best' lists and none of them had all the features I wanted. The only one that had everything was the NYA-EVO. Many features, well designed, will stand on end without falling over. The aluminum frame is removable and will fit into the overhead airplane compartments.

    I must say that the NYA-EVO Assistant 1.5 Pouch is an essential piece of the NYA-EVO kit. This little guy is design so well to be an integral part of the waist strap (although other locations work too) and it just works. My recommendation is that you should have at least one of these auxiliary packs for the NYA-EVO 60.

    I can't believe I've had this backpack for almost half a year and only learned TODAY that the front is expandable 🙈 I totally love it, I remove the waistbelt when I go on the plane and it fits perfectly into the overhead lockers of the A320 even with a big wintercoat strapped on the front. Fabulous pack, worth the money.

    I received my NYA-EVO 60 (with the large RCI) just before Christmas and now have it all set up just the way I like it. This is a phenomenal back pack and the pack exceeds my expectations. This video had a large part in my evaluation of packs and ultimately my purchase of this NYA-EVO pack from Hudson's web site. So, thank you Hudson for the clear and thorough explanation of the pack in this video. I love this pack !!

    It is a great bag! I am happy to see a well-established RUclipsr covering NYA-EVO as I have nothing more than praise for this relatively unknown brand.
    I have been using one for a year or so. I bought it on a whim and I am glad that I did so! It has survived snowstorms, heavy rain, and waterfalls just fine. It has always kept everything inside dry, even without using the included raincover. I am using Large and XL inserts. They are both well made, and the separators are very foam thick. I got the latter second hand, but can't find any reference for it online---but has the NYA-EVO logo and all. It holds a ton! My Peak Design and F-stop ICUs also fit perfectly fine.
    When I emailed their support to buy a replacement compartment separator (lost mine), I got a fast reply by Jensen, the CEO and main designer. Shows how small their business is. He shipped me a new one within a day and at a very reasonable cost. Overall, I am happy with the customer service.

    Thank you, Hudson. I just ordered it today with your provided link. I was looking at Shimoda and F-Stop Tilopa with Dura Diamond as well. I have so many backpacks and I am not quite happy with them. Looks like this backpack is what I am looking for. What made me decide to try the Fjord 60-C are the following:
    1. Versatility of the RCI and its depth: I got all 3 sizes RCIs - small, medium, and large. The depth and the removable RCI beats my Atlas Athlete pack design. The Athlete has a very shallow camera compartment that is not recommended for bigger bodies like the Z9. The lenses can only be placed on their sides so space quickly gets used. The Fjord 60-C will accommodate bigger bodies or two Z6 II/Z7 II-sized bodies and more lenses.
    2. The waist straps: I am a hiker and a backpacker. I got spoiled with Osprey's and Gregory's suspension and support designs of their backpacks. They are very comfortable. I agree with Hudson that for multi-day trips, there is no camera backpack that beats a regular hiking backpack. Fjord 60-C has an advantage against my WANDRD and Peak Design packs in this category. The waist straps of WANDRD and Peak Design do not do anything. Therefore, all the weight of your backpack is on your shoulders. I also have the F-Stop Anja and I am not happy with the waist straps of that backpack as well.
    3. Just the right amount of pockets: I have the Atlas Adventure backpack for carrying bigger lenses. But that pack was so overdesigned with pockets that it got too bulky and heavy. For this reason, it has not seen daylight and resides in my closet.
    4. The separate compartment design: This is a great/innovative design to protect your gear from liquid spilling inside of your pack or from wet clothing/gear. It also helps separate camera gear from your other outdoor gear. F-Stop pack design lacks this feature and makes your other gear directly in contact with the ICU. I guess they are confident with the waterproofness of their ICUs.
    5. 60-C for Carry-on. NYA-EVO designed this pack to comply with airline carry-on size. No more dirty looks from airline gate agents. This pack will replace my WANDRD PRVK as my travel backpack for adventure trips.
    Now, the tentative Cons since I don't have the pack yet to make a solid verdict:
    1. The price: Over $650 for a camera backpack. That's including all RCUs and shipping of $25. I don't remember the last time I paid for shipping. For this price, why the shipping is not free? We'll see if the price is worth it.
    2. The weight: Over 5 lbs. I hope the load support and suspension system help mitigate the weight of the pack like Gregory's.

      @George Robinson,
      Looks like I’m not the only pack hoard here! 🤣
      Man, we have the same packs you’ve listed and same complaints. Unfortunately, I have a ton more and have a paid storage so wifey doesn’t kick me to the curb. But for outdoor adventure packs, we have similar/same.
      I’ve added the Wandrd Fernweh which fixes the problems you had with the Prvke. I have the 31l and 41l and my biggest grip is there is no load lifters so on heavy loads, it sag back too much. If I adjust the shoulder straps, the pack sits too high on my long torso.
      I also have the Shimoda Action and Explorer v2 and I prefer the v2 which is similar in a lot of ways to Fjord but I would combine the two features of Shimoda packs into one as the Fjord.
      Pros of Fjord:
      - top dry storage (nice feature as you described)
      - water bottle here is better executed in my opinion but less flexible
      - much better color options and aesthetics, and if you’re into recycling materials this is a better choice for the new KS campaign going on now
      - beefier and better shoulder and waist straps for what I consider the most functional importance of outdoor or camera packs is comfort, even if you use for EDC and/or travel. Small personal touch is the shoulder straps doesn’t have the pockets so it doesn’t look like a bra which works functionally but aesthetically unpleasing, at least IMHO
      - interiors are light color and has contrast and with new KS campaign. Not sure about the all black new interiors of the RCI but it has contrast unlike other packs where it is all black (Wandrd and others to name a few). The thinner dividers on the new RCI is a welcomed addition as it’s not overly built. Wish the interiors stayed grey but better materials so it doesn’t get dirty which is probably why they went with all black
      Cons or different from Shimoda packs:
      - don’t have zipper for quick access into the top dry storage
      - don’t have side access to RCI which I’ve been used to by now so need to practice without this quick access
      - don’t have organization accessories like Shimoda has to keep everything organized
      - laptop is in front which I always prefer in the back for load balance but they make up for the load lifters and nice adjustable shoulder and waist harness system
      - lack pockets on waist belt but with the accessories I have from Shimoda, I can add it on
      Check out the new changes made on Nya Evo Fjord that is running on KS now. May not be worthy of an upgrade for those who already have a pack but for those new like myself, a welcome addition.
      Sorry for the long rant! Now off to upgrading to a bigger storage for more bag purchases!
      Can’t believe I never new about this brand. They need to do more marketing.

      @@zgw8 hi. Yes. I love the pack. It’s so comfortable. I brought it with me last month to heli-hiking in Canada’s Cariboos mountains. The guides thought my pack was heavy because of its size. But, it was great and even carried it rock climbing in the Zillmer Canyon via Ferrata. I loved it so much that I bought the smaller size (38 L). But, the suspension system is totally different. Looks good. One thing that strikes me is when you said relatively waterproof. Not so much as with this bag but, all camera bags & backpacks. There must be a reason they don't make them waterproof which to me should be made & a no brainer. Maybe breathability. Maybe I'll contact one before I purchase my next backpack. Great review, I don't think you miss a thing.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  2 года назад +1

      Packs need to breathe so that wet things you put in them can dry and not mildew. :) They use technical fabric like ski jackets, but it's a balance between breathability, durability and weight. I think Nya-Evo strikes that balance as well as any pack maker and I include gregory, arcterxy and osprey in that list. All good packs need a rain jacket in drenching storms. Love that NYA-EVO includes thiers. :) that's rare.

    Well, they say timing is everything. For years, I had been using a generic "Back to school" backpack, but while it was certainly inconspicuous, it just wasn't doing the job anymore. A somewhat local (about an hour away) camera shop had a Black Friday Sale, and I picked up a new camera backpack (a Mindshift 26L UL). If this video had of been out a couple weeks ago, the NYA-EVO 26L with a Large RCI might have been something that would have caught my attention.

      I'm waiting for the 36L NYA-Evo to arrive. I have a little 19L Mindshift and I do like it. But, I find I am always wishing I had just a little bit more space for day hikes. My hope is that this 36L will be the one. I ordered it with all three inserts partly with the idea that I will be able to adapt them to other packs as circumstances may dictate. I do a lot of canoe tripping, and I'm thinking that the inserts might adapt to a truely water proof tripping bag for those trips.

  • @t.k.1448
    @t.k.1448 2 года назад +1

    I bought this bag in spring and am super happy with it. My biggest issue is not a criticism of the bag but rather "good to know" comment: the shoulder straps are so thick and the padding so firm (not to confused with uncomfortable) so that it means I can't attach my Pead Design V3 clip to the shoulder strap anymore. Also I was worried it would get singled out during boarding at the airport but so far its size when compressed with the waist belt buckled around the back has not prompted any gate personnel to verify whether the bag meets carry-on size restrictions. Still, if you fill all the slots of the large ICU, pretty much a given you will be over the carry-on weight limit. Also, the color accuracy on the website is not great as the same color appears different depending on which bag size you look at. The green is actually quite dark.

    Looks very similar to the design of F-Stop bags. I currently use the Suhka with 2 ICU’s which enables me to carry a 400mm F/2.8 mounted on a body. Do you know if the largest insert would accommodate this? There are definitely some interesting and useful differences to the F-Stop which I could certainly make use of! Thanks.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  2 года назад

      F-stop makes great bags. I still have my Sukha too, but the NYA-EVO is incredible. NYA-EVO's large RCI is a couple inches shorter than F-stop's big ICU. At 16" high it could hold the 14.1" 400/2.8 vertically, but not with a DSLR on it. The 500PF does fit with an FTZ and Z9 with loads of room to spare, but not the 400 2.8. Hit the link in this video's full description and check the specs. They are quite detailed. As an aside: when I carry my 500PF (or if I borrow a 400 2.8) I carry a separate lens bag for it (usually from a shoulder strap under the pack on my hip). Nothing bigger than the 100-400/70-200 size generally goes inside my bag.

    Any experience with the Atlas backpacks for comparison to the NYA-EVO?

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  Год назад +2

      I tried them and found them inferior to fstop. NYA-EVO is a significant step above either with regard to ergonomics, usability and quality of design. Fstop and NYA-EVO are higher quality of construction and material and only NYA-EVO goes the extra mile with sustainability using material from recycled fishing nets and eco friendly DWR waterproofing.

      @@HudsonHenryPhoto thank you for the feedback. I do like my Fstop 80l Shinn bag but I'm looking for something a bit smaller for travel that fits in the overhead compartment. The 60C looks like it may be perfect for that. The only thing I don't like is the placement of the laptop compartment on the front of the bag, but it's a tradeoff since otherwise it'd be in the back panel access "door" which can also be frustrating when accessing the bag frequently since it adds weight to the panel like in my Shimoda and Think Tank bags.

    Man, I was sooo close to pulling the trigger on the F-Stop 50L, not just because it looks like a great bag, but also because they are offering a very decent military discount, however, I am absolutely in love with this pack. The only thing I see that I don't like is the ICU. It doesn't look like it could be used as a stand-alone unit so that if an airline at the last minute made you check your backpack you wouldn't really feel comfortable removing it and using it as a carry-on, whereas the F-Stop "Slope" & "Shallow" ICU's can be used as a stand-alone. Any thoughts on that? Would the F-Stop ICU's be able to replace the NyaEvo ICU's to be used in the 60L with no problems? Thanks for a great video! @HudsonHenryPhoto

      I was an f-stop ambassador before I discovered NYA-EVO. It's far easier to pull and replace the NYA-EVO RCI's than the F-stop ICUs. Far easier. Four simple strong velcro tabs and no buckle to lace through like F-Stop. Super simple to zip out if needed and tuck under a seat. Did that on a small plane in Mexico last year without holding up boarding as I got on.
      They're nicer in every way. The RCI covers zip totally off to slip in behind in the bag. Way cleaner that way than rolling them under like Fstop. Shoulder strap mounts, the whole nine yards. Check em out in my store. I couldn't be happier with the change. Www.hudsonhenry.com
      The sizing is different though. No interchanging with f-stop. Trust me. They're better.

    You didn't address what size laptop it would accommodate. According to their website it will not fit a 16" laptop, particularly the new MacBook Pro. Can you say if it would or not?

      When Rick's in town with his MBP16 I'll check. It fits my Xps-15 i9 easily, but Its more a hydration sleeve for me 99% of the time anyway.

      Yes, the Fjord 60-C can fit a 16" Macbook Pro.
      Any other questions please let us know.
      Best Regards,

      I'd still like to see how it works with Rick's. Thanks

    Curious if you have ever looked at the Shimoda Pack? I am trying to decide between the NYA-EVO and their pack and trying to compare.

    • @HudsonHenryPhoto
      @HudsonHenryPhoto  2 года назад

      I'd put Shimoda third behind Nya Evo and F-stop. There are three things I disliked about Shimoda and I show one in this video. The shoulder strap attachment piont is frighteningly light duty. Sure it's adjustable, but I don't trust it. Compare how Nya-Evo does it to see a better bit of design. Second, the shoulder straps are very lightly padded and oddly vest like in a way I find constricting personally. Finally, the dividers in thier internal units are way underpadded and too loose for me. Pieces of gear bounce sloppily around off each other instead of being tightly packed and padded apart.

      @@HudsonHenryPhoto Thanks for the insights! As a backpacker, I hear you on the attachment points, and this does seem like a well constructed pack. I'm 6'5" so I'm a little concerned if the pack will fit my torso length/height even at the highest point. (Not sure how tall you are Hudson, noticed you are set at the middle point). I emailed the guys at NYA-EVO to get their thoughts also. Appreciate your channel and work you put into it.

      @@HudsonHenryPhoto Have you seen anyone with a Shimoda shoulder strap fail at the attachment? Shouldn't most of the weight be loaded on the hips? Should I be concerned with my Shimoda longevity? I've had Peak Design anchors fail when they switched to thinner thread design. Since then they reverted back to thicker threads which hasn't failed in the last 5+ years.
      Initially didn't like the men straps when testing at the store. As you described it is "vest like". Swapped to their new women version which curves wrapping the sides more which I like better. Too bad it isn't sold separately. Gotta buy the women teal color to have it which I did.
      IMO the thinner divider is better to pack more gear in. Can pad stuff yourself or change to thicker dividers. It is all velcro sticky design so almost all 3rd party dividers work. I have so many from previous bags.
      On this note Shimoda new "Urban" Explore bags uses a new camera core unit cube with more squishy/puffy dividers. Interestingly Shimoda claim both core unit use the same amount of EVA foam density. Just the original thinner divider has the foam precompressed. The newer version is just less compressed to be puffier.

      Just pick up a NYA-EVO bag and you'll instantly feel why it's light years better. Shimoda has always been far too light duty for me. I have a lot of friends now who've happily switched.
      No one is making nearly as nice a camera bag. It's more in line with Gregory or Arcteryx.
