    This video guides you through setting up a single joystick, dual joysticks (HOSAS) or, stick and throttle (HOTAS), rudder pedals, etc in Star Citizen 3.20 and newer.
    3.20 split some controls into both relative and absolute modes, added some options.
    We'll step through this verbally and graphically.
    We'll explain the difference between REL and ABS keybinds and when you should use it.
    A fix is demonstrated for reversed stick keybinds, and back them up for safekeeping.
    The command used to reverse the left/right sticks is pp_resortdevices joysticks 1 2
    Use of the speed limiter toggle, landing gear throw levers, and throttle setupnare demonstrated in the advanced setup.
    The joysticks pictured here are VKB Space Combat Edition Premium NXT EVO, but process works on others as well.

    Really love that you took the time to do this. Been playing sims (and star citizen) for years, with quite a few diffrent setups but mainly used Thrustjunker T16000M HOTAS for years now. ABout 4 sets of them in 10 eyars because they're such garbage. When the inevitable potentiometer went bad the most recent time I manually upgraded it to a hall sensor. But it also needs redone every couple months so long story short I just ordered VKB's and was dreading having to go through the word soup that is Star Citizen's keybinds. Your bit on absolute and stuff extremely helped. SO thanks.
    Also, what kind of freak yaws with left to right XD. I'm kidding, I know some people do that. I can't. It doesn't make sense in my brain. Z-roation is like a steering wheel which turns left and right. IDK. lol.

      There's a utility called Joystick Diagrams that I used to create images showing button mappings. It supports VKB Space Combat Edition after you rename the related files to match. Finding the right button... oof, I've gone back and forth for awhile. Combat related seems to work better on the right stick hats for me being right handed. Request landing, map toggle, etc I bind to the bases. Download the linked keybind files and review the diagrams for inspiration.

    The amount of people that use yaw on the X axis rather than on the twist on right stick or rudder pedals is mind blowing to me. I would suggest getting the omni throttle adapter for left stick if you are using VKB gladiators. Makes the twist for up and down more intuitive at least in my mind.

    • @PaganLinuxGeek
      @PaganLinuxGeek  8 месяцев назад

      Well I like it that way. :-) The good thing about options, is that they're options. Do you need some assistance setting yaw they way you want? Have a vkb throttle on left side of my left stick so got that covered.

    • @chadley792
      @chadley792 8 месяцев назад

      @@PaganLinuxGeek That is the beauty of it, there are crazy amount of options to fill everyones needs. Just didnt know I was in the minority lol. I was seeing what other people are doing. • @PaganLinuxGeek
      @PaganLinuxGeek  8 месяцев назад

      @chadley792 I've bound speed limiter to the major axis. Mining power to the smaller throw. I'm deciding how to map the various modes to the turn knobs. Most are easy enough (mining/salvage/towing, quantum, scanning). Might have to bind a quick.doubke tap of B to the last position for "normal".mode. The remaining buttons are.awesome for doors, ports, landing gear, configuration toggle. I'm using the WWII throttle. Which are you using?

      @@PaganLinuxGeek MongoosT-50CM3 I was thinking about using it for a speed limiter but I also want to try to fly decoupled most of the time so that would be null and void. Not sure how the upcoming master modes are going to change everything though. I haven't tried it out yet

    • @EliasWindrider

      Today is my first day playing star citizen (well arena commander racing) and I used this video to set up my gladiator evo next premium stick (right hand) and omni throttle (left hand), I initially set up my right hand stick to roll on x and yaw on twist. I quickly changed it back to the default, yaw on x and roll on twist (but i inverted the twist direction) because Rolling and pitching did not fly like I was expecting (at least not near the ground), it did set the pinky button to swap roll and yaw (as that might work better in space). Maybe if I could decrease the sensitivity of the x axis for roll it might fly more like I was thinking. Btw I swap out the #20 springs in the right stick for #10 springs.... I think #15 springs might be about right for me, may have to order those.

      I did end up getting the VKB NXT combo with Omni throttle. I also got the STECS and add-on panel (MAX I think) and couldn't be happier. I'm getting used to the HOSAS but still use the throttle for acceleration and cruise control. The resolution and feel of these things is amazing. I have the clutches set just to the point where they almost don't center and feel amazing. Weakest springs in right stick, stock springs in the OT. I did similar mappings to yours, except I want roll on my X axis and yaw on my Z twist. (right hand) Left hand is translate with twist being up/down. Really wonderful entry into high-end sticks. Just having an issue with the Quantum drive engagement, where I can activate the drive but not engage because of the mandatory (hold) function that can't be changed. None of the buttons on the STECS will hold long enough to engage. I'm sure I need to play around with the software but otherwise super happy with it.

    • @PaganLinuxGeek
      @PaganLinuxGeek  4 месяца назад

      I haven't dug deep onbth3 stecs button setup yet but it might be set as a momentary (fast signal then none) which would make engaging quantum a bit tricky as you press and hold. I use one of the buttons on the base of Mt left stick now and it works OK. That profile attached to the video (linked in description) has it bound to left stick hat left.

They were created with joystick-diagrams program. Basically the right stick is nose control (pitch, roll, yaw), targeting, countermeasures, etc. The left stick is navigation, doors, landing gear, vtol, lights, freelook, etc.

    Thanx. I have a x52 pro which I use on older pc but on my new rig I have warthog set up with ch pedals, cougar mfd's, 2 game glass tablets, tobi eye. Even with all those input options it's still difficult to make sure I have the most important functions selected. One thing that makes it easier is to find out which one is which and write it down. pedals=(input 3), throttle =(input 1) for example.

      I try to keep the controls I use frequently,.or used in the midst of combat on the hats to minimize.hand travel. Infrequent binds, I typically place on the joystick bases, or on the button box portion of the throttle. Landing gear, VTOL, wing configuration, atc,.door and ports are prime candidates. That's my way, but each has to map according to what works best for them.

    The only thing I may add is to speak about Joystick Gremlin which can turn a number of controls (e.g. joystick, throttle, pedals, gamepad) into a single, virtual joystick so that SC only sees one device. That eliminates a lot of the confusion about control numbers. It is a godsend for me.

      There is a throttle forward axis binding option. If you do that then I'd urge you to bind a key for toggling forward reverse a couple lines underneath it if memory serves. Doing this means throttle all the way back is 0, and full forward is 100%. Pressing button means ship moves backwards.

    I noticed something about the Cruise Control : before you could enable/disable it anytime, but now your left joystick (the one that controls the forward/backward strafing etc) has to be centered if you want the button to be clickable. If you're strafing forward the button won't work.
    It's not a big deal, but it's not very practical to have to stop to change modes (I do it very often 😅).

      I played around with this more. If I leave the left stick (throttle forward/backward) untouched and at Centerpoint, I can enable cruise control and it locks to the speed limiter. I control speed limiter on throttle box. Moving the left stick disengaes cruise control. I thought it a bug until reading the post in spectrum I linked in a text post here. Seems the cruise control is going away at some point. They intend to utilize trim instead. I posted a video about setting and using it today. I apologize for the delay in response. I prefer to have a good understanding before commenting or informing, and some family medical issues as of late took my attentions. After using the throttle trim a bit I'm digging it. Will take some repeated use before it becomes.habit.

      Sadly no, it warns you that it's also used for ____ but doesn't offer option to remove previous mapped binding. If you have trouble locating the other bindings and dont mind starting over, you can reset to defaults. I show this in the start of video. Also If you are running VKB Space Combat Edition premiums you can toggle between ministick and hat mode by pressing IN on the hat/ministick. The LED will show RED in alt mode. That allows you to map analogue strafing to the ministick and other actions to the hat mode. :-)

      Launch windows settings (looks like a gear or cog) and search for joystick. It should show the game controller application. Run that. It will list the controllers windows sees. If the virprils dp not show in the list you'll need to verify they are connected properly, calibrated, and any needed utilities are running. If not you need to contact virpril support or a buddy running them. I wish I could help but do not have any personal experience with virpril products to draw upon. Now that we have that out of the way: you setup joysticks with a hierarchical tree in Star Citizen. Follow along with the video at its start. Particularly in the lower right and lower left corners. As this gets you into the joystick bindings and out of the keyboard mouse bindings section.

    I'm stuck and need help. I flew with a Cheap T.Flight Hotas for years and could hit anything perfectly. I got an X56 Hotas and my fine motion for hitting a pip is wrecked. I've spent countless hours adjusting curves and I just can't seem to get it right. Standard sensitivity is too harsh on small movements. A curve works great for most things but when I'm in a PVP fight I find I can't track the pip because of the variation in the curve causing me to constantly over correct. I almost want to say I need a linear curve that's just slower, I'm guessing that would be saturation, but wouldn't this limit my turn rate as an E.G. ? I'm open to any solution as this is driving me mad.

    • @PaganLinuxGeek

      ESP might be the solution. TLDR: it adjusts (slows) joystick input as your reticle gets closer to the target. You can adjust the width of the adjustment circle and the amount of adjustment to input making it easier to get finer movements. Please note that I've not (yet) done a deep dive on it so will have to summarize and refer you to Moist Noodle's recent video explaining it. He did an excellent job explaining and demonstrating it. ruclips.net/video/kKV7wtgcWzE/видео.htmlsi=xUQFwWQxSVYaSa7D Having said that; I'd love to hear what adjustments you made :-)

    • @PaganLinuxGeek
      @PaganLinuxGeek  6 месяцев назад

      It's been my experience that the first joystick found by SC doesn't get a number designated. It's just joystick X-axis. The 2nd and 3rd joysticks would get a number designated like joystick (2) or joystick (3). If you load into offline free flight mode of arena commander, setup, and test what happens? If bound it will show the button or axis for each in the option list. For example the pitch binding would reflect the axis. If it's not showing the axis then it's not set. There is a short timeout when setting. So if joystick movement isn't being detected that line will remain blank.

      I have dual sticks and a throttle and use this procedure to I'd them. To determine which is device1 open the keybinds and bind it to an axis paying attention to what number appears in the device name after binding. You can do that with buttons as well. The first device just shows axis or button name. If it is the 2nd device the name will be shown after the axis or button name. Like x-axis(device2 device2). Sadly the device numbering can change just by unplugging something, or moving it to another port.
