Oh Yes. I've been supporting SC for nearly 8 years now. Started out as a mouse and keyboard pilot such as yourself. Over the course of time I evolved to dual stick pilot using the T16000m for my left and a Thrustmaster Warthog for my right. Into that 2nd evolution I added head tracking...a must have as well IMHO. And finally my current setup I have a complete Monster Tech mounted system supporting my Virpil Mongoose T50 Throttle, Dual Virpil Alphas Sticks, plus a mounted mouse and mounted keyboard also by Monster Tech. I heard that if you have the right build and a great connection (I’m in New York), then it should run smooth with game breaking bugs happening 2-3 times a day if you session the whole day.

    • @hippocks146
      @hippocks146 4 года назад +2

@@Bryanmiester everyone's always mouthing off on the Internet... That said, I think that if you only got 3 major crashes throughout the day then you're game must be even more bugged than usual, to last that long.
      My rig:
      Ryzen 2700x @4.1Ghz
      16Gb 3200Mhz RAM (Team-Group)
      8GB GTX 1080 Armour OC
1TB M.2 with Star Citizen only on it, due to my PC format the other day.
I'm not exactly running the most powerful PC in the world but it is more than capable. There isn't anything I can't max out, and SC does run smooth-ish. 40 - 60FPS.
It's not the frame count that's the issue. It's the lack of working basic game mechanics.
These developers are more interested in giving you another ship or a skin for an existing ship or new armour for your char, than they are in getting the core game working.
Like I said, the arena commander works flawlessly and never crashes but the PU is just broken. Like truly unplayable kind of broken.

I find with a dual joysticks setup, I'm much more inclined to dogfight in a "knife fight" type of mentality, lots of strafing side to side or up and down, and rolling, while always keeping the nose of my ship pointed at my enemy.

I'm an old-school flight-simmer who has had joysticks for at least 30 years, and HOTAS sytems for the past decade. I have to agree that the controllers definitely make the experience better, so much so that when I broke my flight pedals last year, I didn't play any SC or flying games until I had a new set. It's one of those things that once you get used to having it, you can't live without it.
I literally won't play games that I can't map my controllers to work with... I hope some developers for Ace Combat 7 or GTAV read that. Those are games that I would have played, if I could have played them with my $1500 gaming chair/HOTAS/Steering wheel/Driving pedal/Stick shifter/Flight pedal setup, rather than a $40 Dual Shock.
In fact, that being said, I haven't played played SC in a while since they currently only offer config pages for 4 devices, and because I have more than that, SC won't let me address all of them to properly configure my setup. Hope they make every detected device have it's own config page, or at least let me choose which 4 devices I want to setup with the 4 config pages available to me. First-world problem if there ever was one... lol XD

Well you're not alone in those problems, I only have four input devices (HOTAS Warthog+Rudder Pedals+G27) but it already causes trouble with my stick changing controller ID every damn patch. ;)

The MFG Crosswind looks nice but it was another 300-320 Euros, while the TPR wasn't out yet and the pricing for the TPR is mad! (500 Euros) We're living in strange times when a 300-320 euro set of rudder pedals is the sensible option! ;)
Well and the T16000 didn't exist back when I got my Warthog, otherwise I might've looked at it. Also this was back in 2016 when the Saitek drivers were not that reliable....;)

The T16000's are good starter sticks especially considering the price. Great for someone who isn't sure about the setup. If it turns out you like it, look at more expensive options. The TM stick just don't have enough buttons at your finger tips without taking your hand off the stick(s) compared to more expensive options. You want to be able to turn and use countermeasures without removing your hand form the stick. They have enough buttons for the bare basics but if you want to add targeting, pinning, missiles, Counter Measures, Coupled/Decoupled toggle, etc you will run out of buttons quick.

Hey Morph, nice vid as always. Just be aware when sending profiles to friends the profile may not necessarily assign the correct stick to the correct part of the profile. SC uses a simple method for assigning sticks and can often switch them round after unplugging and reconnecting your sticks back in to different ports.
On my set-up I have reference to 4 controllers. If this occurs there are some commands which allows you to swap the stick ID's around so that a received profile for a pair of sticks can be reassigned to work on a particular setup. For example in the console (use key next to the number one on the top row UK keyboard)
To see what ID's are in use: i_DumpDeviceInformation
    To change ID's:
    Change device 3 to 1 and 4 to 2?

    pp_resortdevices joystick 4 2

You can also circle around a target changing all three angles all the timr, giving em nearly no chance to fire at you since their target computer can't predict your movements.

I use the Logitech X-56 Rhino RGB setup. The thing I love about this setup the most is that it has two analog thumb sticks, one on joystick and one on the throttle that really enhances space sim flight. It is basically like having a duel stick setup and HOTAS all in one. The thumb sticks give you the ability to put thrusters on one and head movement on the other Plus all the other normal HOTAS controls and I also now use them for FPS movement. I use rotaries for things like mining laser, speed limiter, and zoom. It also has lots of switches which add to the immersion of being like switches and buttons in a cockpit. And YES!...Thanks for mentioning the ability to copy and save your mappings. I had the hardest time reprogramming things after each patch until I found the mappings folder. (Star Citizen>Live>USER>Controls>Mappings) Now I just copy them to a folder on my desktop and paste them back after new patch or USER folder delete. Great Video!

I have to apply a slight deadzone to that one now after 8 years of abuse, the orange one though is at 3 years with no deadzone needed yet... which is baffling to me, I was expecting a little needed and I don't ever mind it.
Flying is beautiful with sticks, things just feel way more natural and fluid. I can perform maneuvers with more of a physical feel for them.
For me the most thrilling thing is flying as fast as absolutely possible with no flight assists at all.

(which you using another ship was really great to simulate btw!!!) When it's STUCK to the ship it feels very arcade-like and you dont get the feeling you expect flying through air. I'm hoping CIG is planning some sort of turbulence effect as well because the smaller ships end up feel floaty.

You get the accuracy of the mouse controlling pitch and yaw and overcome the issue with the binary keyboard inputs by using a left handed stick for thrusters. I have a HOTAS myself, which I use for Elite and SC (intending on getting a second sick too). Got it about a year ago, and I totally agree with the "connection with your ship" view.
For me personally, SC is all about the simulated experience. I get great enjoyment just flying about, doing box runs, trade and the occasional combat.
Admittedly I spend less time in dogfights and such and actively avoid PVP so I can't comment too much on the combat side of things.
With that said, I feel HOTAS/HOSAS really helps towards the "feel" of actually flying these ships. It just feels cooler than using mouse and keyboard, and once you're used to it, it controls just as good. As mentioned, I really enjoy the simulation side of the game (much like I do in Elite VR) and from that standpoint, HOTAS/HOSAS are immersive as heck lol. Same can be said about a wheel or yoke for ground vehicles. It ain't cheap, but if you get great enjoyment out of it's worthwhile for sure.
Also, just for fun I like to try and use HOTAS in games that you really wouldn't play with one (on foot fps games for example, or RTS) It's awful but great laughs to be had there haha

Flying dual stick in decoupled mode is amazing. I can’t say much about budget sticks other than that for general flight they are just fine. But I have a virpil alpha as my main stick, it controls rotation, because of how good it is I can run 0 deadzone with no drift when I let go of the stick, and my accuracy in dogfighting is way up from keyboard a mouse. Just for general flying it feels so much better than keyboard and mous, and even hotas (I do use a slider for cruise control when I am trying to exit atmosphere), it is way more natural and it feels how flight is supposed to be as in decoupled mode you are directly controlling the thrust rather than controlling how fast and in which direction you want the ship to move, and dual stick gives you full precision control over the thrusters. And it the movement of the ship is much more natural and way more fluid. It doesn’t matter if I am flying heavys in space or atmo or light fighters, dual stick + decoupled mode is the way to go.

I have one T16000 FCS, but I am so tempted to get a second. However! I saw how clean the TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition looks, and... I'm so into it. I might have to nab one of those, as my left, throttle control stick. Also, one of these days, I am going to take a shipping container or a camper trailer, and turn it into the interior of a 300 series ship. Or possibly the Aurora, with the dual sticks.

At first I used a flight-stick but after getting tired of reconfiguring it, I started using a mouse… and you know - I think I might actually prefer it as a mouse is such a hard input to beat for precision and it really is good at defining where you want the pip to go. Also, I use Star Citizen on ShadowPC, and a huge benefit is being able to do it on a computer or even on my iPad Pro with keyboard when I catch a moment, so there’s a real benefit for me to have a control system that is easily transferred to other devices and doesn’t require tons of special equipment.
But caveat: I’m mostly an ‘industrial’ pilot and haven’t been into dogfighting in the ‘verse ever since SC introduced other things to do that weren’t combat.

I use the old x55 hotas plus gameglass. Its worth it now the atmospheric flight is being improved.
With the head tracking active it makes a world of difference

I made my own simple desk mounts which are a tad bit lower than the desk and works really well

I'd highly recommend picking up some sticks to fly in star citizen, I feel connected to my ships in ways that I never did with a mouse. Now that the flight system in headed in a good direction flying with HOTAS or HOSAS feels amazing again.

The flight photo looks more alive when you fly with sticks. I guess it could be the gentle rolling that makes the difference.
