Just like the last level you should design in a game is Level 1, the last monsters I'll be overhauling are the Godzillas. They need to be the teachers, the beginner characters, they have to be perfect.
So far, my favorite character with the improvements is Super Mechagodzilla.

That’s funny because as of the June 2021 reveal, Gigan ‘72 and Gigan ‘04 are separate characters with i think different move sets! I was thinking the same thing and I’m so glad when that reveal happened

I love the fact that before the battle when the monsters do their intros their themes of the movies sound for a little time. You guys really did an amazing job, not only when it comes to major changes, but also with little details like this!
I love the graphics honestly. This looks pretty cool. I just wish it was on PS4.
At 13:50, is where I see the huge improvement as far as textures, colors and scale go and I LOVE it. Especially when Destroyah throws Gigan and sucks him back to him only to be slammed on multiple buildings. That's Satisfying and intense lol Great work!!

I like what you did with the intros. Especially with Jet Jaguar growing from human size (I think) to kaiju size.
I just hope this proyect continues and ends, no matter how many years it takes, unlike other proyects who only get cancelled, the work of all of you seem to be producing a masterpiece, dont loose focus.

The new Spacegodzilla is awesome. I'm curious to see what you'll do with Megalon and Orga. One thing I'll say about Gigan, if at all possible he could use a bit more blue in the hip and shoulder straps. Or maybe that could be one of his alternate skins?

Wow, didn't know Fire Rodan was a new character added! How did he even get an announcer clip if he wasn't in the original game?
It was really fun to watch the game in action. Seems like a really fun and interesting fighting game with the fast gameplay! Tho I do wonder something else: Kiryu is never shown in gameplay to use the Absolute Zero Cannon. Is he able to do so in game?
"announcer clip" is not from original game files. They have voice actors.

This was actually a mechanic that was fully implemented and then removed after playtesting (hitstun canceling.) It just doesn’t fit with the game and changed the entire game fundamentally, for the worse in my opinion, STEM is defined by its elaborate long combos.
loving the music, here! but was curious, will there be a way to play either the original STE music or just the original movie scores during fights? that amount of options would be greatly appreciated since it'd be nice to capture that raw "Toho Movie" vibe to rounds!
The base game of STEM won't launch with any non-original arrangements, or even content for that matter. But it is quite easy to mod, and the music converter tool is easy to use, so any songs can be put into your own copy of the game.

They will have heisei-specific and millennium-specific roars, respectively.
@@Gojirex soo for heisei, will he have roars akin to early heisie,(84-91) or will it be more LATE Heisie? (92-95) (Or will it be a mix of both?)
@@gojizirra1018 I'm not too sure, Toku Society does the sound effects for the game.
Heisei Godzilla is primarily based on 1989. He does have a Burning skin though, but I think his roars are 89-91.
Godzilla 2000 has specifically 2000 roars.

It looks like it took some inspiration from smash bros, especially melee with the faster pace, is there/ going to be advance techs like a wavedash style technique in this mod?

I’m assuming this is the case, but are balance changes going to continue to be made to the game? From watching the first two matches, it felt like Rodan had to hit Gigan three times as much to do equal damage. I personally always felt Save the Earth was extremely unbalanced in certain matchups based on the strengths/weaknesses stats system. I felt like DAMM was more balanced. The game is looking amazing though!
Well Rodan and Gigan are bad match ups, considering that one of Rodan's weaknesses is piercing damage. But Gigan would have a much harder time against someone like MG2 or 3 since Mechs are resistant to piercing. Rodan's a very Blitzy type character who can Dish out the damage, but has a hard time taking it. I think He needs a damage boost, but as far as taking hits- it's fairly reasonable.
@@warpath313 See, that’s my point; the whole strengths/weaknesses system is what made GSTE so unbalanced. Some matchups literally felt unplayable (Baragon VS. King Ghidorah for example). I just personally feel that either some big adjustments should be made to the strengths/weaknesses system, or just scrap it all together and balance the game more like DAMM. I just think the game being so matchup heavy is part of what hurt GSTE.

He was charging him beam. In STEM, he can change the direction he's facing while charging and firing his Uranium beam.

Same. Unfortunately, we can’t import completely original animations yet. I have made the framework for him flying, it works well, we simply lack the takeoff, flying loop, and landing animations. Until proper animations can be converted to a readable format for the game, there are some unfortunate limitations with what we can do with the game. We all want Destoroyah to fly, and the moment it’s possible, I will make it happen. However, I can’t promise anything.

Looks like you're moving in a solid direction for sure. Gigan looks like a ton of fun, same for kiryu and rodan. Building combos didn't seem to be functioning very well but I'm sure that'll be solved.
Is destroyah too slow for combos? I'd hate to see her end up as the stereotypical low tier heavy character. If she's made too simple she'll become uninteresting, lacking depth or tools to compensate.
I’m not sure I quite understand what you mean, there are a lot of examples of building combos in this video, and many were done by Destoroyah. Destoroyah’s combos aren’t very extensive, he doesn’t do 10 hit combos like Gigan or Fire Rodan, but he doesn’t need to. In 3 hits he can do just as much damage as them. Most of his combos also come from utilizing his orbs as well, as they greatly extend how many hits he can get in. The comeback at the end of the last Destoroyah game was a 2 hit and it did 50 damage. Character variety is very important to me...if Destoroyah was out here doing fast 10 hit combos like the rest of them, that wouldn’t be fitting to his character, and it would make the roster too homogeneous, and more importantly it’d be very toxic to fight. Destoroyah’s in a good spot currently, and he has a variety of weapons and tools in his kit that make him in depth.
@@Gojirex There's no issue with the damage the combos output, The issue seems to be that the openers don't offer much variety to the few linkers she has. If destroyah is just meant to be a setup character that's fine it just depends how effective those setups are. If they're simply one more hit to keep in mind in a block string I don't see much value. If they hit overhead and she forces a low block that's toxic. Tools like the zero g bomb being overhead and expensive to use make sense because you're paying energy to make a checkmate situation with guaranteed damage. The ugly stuff is when that's the only reliable setup tool because the orb hits mid and can only work if they're overcommiting and get hit mid animation.
The REALLY ugly stuff comes from slow punishable normals with bad frame data making the hypothetical zero-g bomb necessary for creating opportunities for openers/pokes.
If that's the case destroyah trying to zone you out and build meter to go in for her checkmate setup would likely be common. It's up to you whether you would want to encourage such tactics.
The things you are talking about are more universal than you may think, the orbs hit at any height, even people laying on the ground, but I think a certain deeper layer needs to be applied when thinking about this game philosophically, and not just on the surface. The Gigan I was playing is not very good at the game (sorry Margo) and as such, tries to block everything that I do as his go-to response to pressure. That’s why I am constantly grabbing him as Destoroyah throughout the match. Constantly grabbing as Destoroyah isn’t optimal, but it is to beat this player, as they never adapted to it. The orb itself is useful for a variety of situations, most notably, what I use it for here are two major things:
-Block pressure
-Insurance
For block pressure, I would throw out an orb and run with it next to me, which essentially means that my run has a hitbox. This forces a response from my opponent, and that response is always something you can react to. For Margo, the response is to simply block, which is why I grab a lot. If there response is to teleport or run away, then I have a few options to deal with that as well. If there response is to attack, then they take the trade of dealing damage to me but also getting flung by the orb. The orb is meant to be a slow-moving setup tool, and it’s not just a setup tool for simply combos. It’s more in-depth than that. It’s a means to obtain an opening on your opponent, it’s not simply an opening in and of itself. I am a huge fan of designing moves that do nothing except help you later, if that makes sense. Their purpose is to lead to a situation where if you guess correctly, you can hit them with a combo starter, instead of itself being a combo starter, because then there is an over-reliance and a lack of depth.
The second is simple insurance. I put the orb behind me to prevent Gigan from teleporting and getting behind me. It also prevents him from approaching me at all, lest he get punished by it. The orb is absolutely an incredible tool that leads to a terrible situation for the opponent, but like everything in STEM, it has counterplay.
My main goal with STEM’s gameplay is to have an improvisational style of combos and neutral. Most combos are so situational that you have to really think on your feet, you are constantly trying to chase your opponent down and just land one more hit before they reach the ground, and knowing your character inside and out is required to do that.
Destoroyah is not a combo character, he’s a tanky setup character who has insane pressure. His combos are not meant to be extensive without the use of his tools. While it wasn’t showcased here, he is able to use his orb to pull the opponent back to him mid-air after a hit, hit them back again, pull the back, etc.
Also, how exactly would Destoroyah zone you out without any energy in his meter? He has the slowest run speed in the game, without energy, he gets rushed down extremely hard. Energy management is key. The slow frame data insures that you can’t simply zone moves and stall for your energy to come back. If you overindulge your energy attacks, you will be punished for it.
The only thing I have to say really is to wait until the game is out and judge it then, rather than judging footage of me (who made the game) destroying someone who’s never played it before.
@@Gojirex fantastic response that shows that you have a very solid grasp of fundamentals and what you're aiming for. I really do hope the neutral in this game is rewarding.
When I say zoning I'm speaking more about using moves with large range such as tail swipes to try to maintain a distance for her to hit you without being hit back. If you've played soulcalibur just imagine nightmare vs maxi. Zoning with fireballs and back jumps doesnt work in soul cal, but nightmare has a big ass sword and therefore can throw out big swings to make maxi respect him when trying to go in. If he doesnt he eats a hit and gets reset to neutral. Whether the nightmare will simply get baited by the maxi and rushed down is up to him, his patience, and his timing. So long as maxi has to force his way into range nightmare holds the match in his hands.
This concept applied to your game could prove very rewarding as energy refills over time in most cases and match time limits are forgiving. The issue occurs when you essentially design a character who is constantly stalling a match waiting for a resource so they can use a a setup tool. This creates a very frustrating race for the other player to get in and deal damage to an elusive/defensive opponent before they get 4 bars and make an attempt at aggression. Then they either connect and combo or whiff and aren't punished because of their tool and in either case reset to neutral and stall for bar again. This can be especially tiresome on tanky characters as their large healthpools only exasperate the issue.
I'd go into more detail to better illustrate my concerns and more over my point, but you're absolutely right I won't know anything until I get to play and whatever I say now is pure conjecture.

@@aidanterrebonne822 Thank you for your kind words. You make an excellent point. In practice, it doesn't seem to be an issue currently, however, I can only really know if it is a toxic loop like that after the game is out and I see every single way that people can play these characters. I have a very bait and punish playstyle, but other people play far more defensively than me and will push this game in areas that I don't even think about. It'll be interesting to watch the first few tournaments to see what strategies I previously didn't imagine were possible can win some games. My plan is to let the game's meta bake over the course of few months, only fixing game-breaking balancing or bugs, and then afterwards if this issue you describe becomes the sole centralized focus of Destoroyah, then I'd rework Destoroyah's gameplay to fix it. Perhaps make the Oxygen Destroyer an ammo count that can only be used once or twice per match? Who knows. We'll just have to see how the meta pans out. I'm interested to see how it develops over a few months uninterrupted first, though, as this game has too much depth to tell what the truly busted strategies are for a very long time.
