(Godzilla: Save the Earth - Melee is a fan-made mod project by Godzilla fans for Godzilla fans. Originally beginning in 2021 as a simple "overhaul" of the 2004 game Godzilla: Save the Earth by Pipeworks Studios, STE Melee evolved over the years into an unofficial fully-fledged sequel to the Pipeworks Godzilla games we've all been waiting for! As originally a PS2 game, STEM runs in an emulator, so it can only be played on PC/Linux/Steam Deck. STE Melee has not yet been released, as it's a huge, all-encompassing remaster that includes additional content. There's no estimated release date as this is a completely free project done out of passion. In the meantime, please enjoy these windows into our development!)

Since Millennium Godzilla has the best gameplay showcased yet, imagine Heisei Godzilla. Shit, even Ghidorah! I'm stoked to see Ghidorah's redesign and gameplay, he must be MASSIVE!
The overall aspect of porting over Unleashed Moves and Animations into some of these monsters is the ultimate and clever "if we couldn't properly mod Unleashed, guess we'll have to bring Unleashed to STE" move and I love it so much. This will truly be the definitive 3D Godzilla fighter haha.
Also super bias towards how perfect this G2k is, I love it!!!!
You made me so happy with this. G2K is my favorite incarnation of Godzilla. I did not expect him to look this good in this game engine
I love how you mixed Godzilla 2000’s STE and Unleashed moveset together to create the perfect moveset for him, this really is the best Godzilla fan project ever!

That Punch grab alone made this version of Godzilla my favorite to play as. I love air combos off of the grab. Glad that was kept in.
I know this has already been said a few times in the comments, but I love the incorporation of G2000's unleashed attacks here. I felt a Wave of nostalgia when I saw the intro, the charge, the ROAR, it made me feel like i had just found game play of G2000 from godzilla unleashed when I was a kid again.
This game looks so good, love how much more meaty and destructive the moves look/feel. The combination of moves, from past games are incredibly well designed and show how much you respect the original games. So excited for both Godzilla and Orga in the near future updates! Amazing work!
I love that you've added The Funny Jump from Godzilla x Megaguirus. It makes for such a great move in this type of game.
Love the incorporation of both Unleashed and STE/Melee in Godzilla 2000s moveset. i hope Orga has the same incorporation cause his Unleashed Moveset is easily one of the funnest despite the controls.

bro this project is magnificently amazing, one of the best projects I've ever seen about Godzilla games.
I personally would prefer keeping the same crunch effect for Godzilla's bite attack from the old games, but everything else is impressive.

Fantastic work. Can't wait to see what you guys do with Godzilla 90's and his skins. On anther note I like how NYC is raining, reminds me of Godzilla 98. It'd be cool if the day time version had a foggy/misty appearance like in that movie too.

Are you gonna add the "Ow, you stepped on my toes!" animation later?
Perhaps. The reason I made it stomp for Godzilla instead is because it visually and thematically feels far more appropriate to be demolished by Godzilla putting his all into a stomp. Like in STE, it feels weirdly unimpactful. Some monsters still have the toe stub property on some moves, like Gigan’s stomp, but for Godzilla the spiking kick makes a lot more sense in his moveset.

@@lordkaijux5262That’s right! Instead of a heal, he shoots electricity into his body, creating a huge lightning hitbox for himself that counters any incoming attack. Mecha King Ghidorah’s is similar, but instead has a shield for his special ability that reflects beams and has a fast short-range hitbox which can be canceled into other attacks, allowing it to be used offensively like Fox’s shine in Smash.
@@Gojirex Oh crap. I didn't expect you to respond. I think that it's cool that you and the rest of the team are reconstructing some of the Special Abilities for the playable kaiju. One question though (You don't have to answer if you don't want to).
Are you guys planning on adding that scrapped multi-colored shockwave effect for Anguirus' Sonic Roar attack or just leaving the same it was originally?

YYYEEESSS!! FINALLY! I cannot believe it that you finally add Godzilla 2000 in GODZILLA: SAVE THE EARTH MELEE. But i didn't know that you could add Godzilla GMK, Godzilla from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla & Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S, Godzilla from Godzilla: Final Wars, Godzilla skin color design of Godzilla Unleashed and you also brought back the classic OG design of Godzilla Save The Earth one. Can you also add of Legendary Godzilla gameplay and his new abilities & strengths video and trailer like how you did with the Godzilla 2000 one? Please man, I know some Godzilla fans are very curious about Legendary Godzilla should do for his next level. And oh one more thing, did you also finish the new upgrade of Burning Godzilla or Super Godzilla from the original design of Godzilla 90s? I'm kinda curious about those as well.

This is amazing work! I'm so happy someone is bringing new life into these games. There's never been a good replacement for this combat system in a Godzilla game since. It was very simple to learn, yet deep enough for tactic variation, very well balanced imo. Blending the underwater travel with the 2d combat perspective is genus. I highly anticipate the finished product. Keep up the good work!

The old 2 hit kick combo was clunky but you fixed it by adding the stomp as a finisher also the dash is an added bonus getting to move in all directions god I love how it was animated

Looks amazing. Can't wait to play it. Though MechG is slightly too small. G was 55m and MechaG was 60m. A slight difference in height and can be seen in the movie. Can they make MechaG sightly bigger?
Which MechaG?
In STE, all the monsters are the same height. In STEM, they have serious height differentials, like Super Mechagodzilla towers over Godzilla. Kiryu and Godzilla are the same height, which “feels” the best to us, as they are two sides of the same coin moveset-wise and mirror each other in hundreds of ways.

It still kinda bothers me that the dorsal plates themselves still don’t glow when charging, but other than that I love it!
Believe us, we wish it could work in this game. In DAM Melee, the spines did glow for both 90s and 2000 while charging beams, and other monsters like Megalon also had their horn/drills glow while charging. Unfortunately, the way that this material rendered in Save the Earth is quite different and it’s not able to be replicated. The PS2 has a limit of 1 texture on a model at a time, and so that feature was removed from the original game.
The way they also achieved these glowing spikes in DAMM were by using multiple submeshes within the model file, split apart from the rest of the body were groups of random spines, and each model would illuminate by placing a glowing texture over the spines in random amounts. The STE models, however are all one model in a single submesh, since the feature had been removed. We are currently unsure if splitting the STEM models into multiple submeshes would work, we haven’t been successful. In fact our models from STE to STEM retained polygon count because we can’t do anything to models other than manipulate each vert’s coordinate position. So splitting a model into smaller parts would break it.
So this feature, while amazing, requires two processes to recreate the glowing spines, and neither one are currently possible to achieve, but never say never! We’ve surpassed the XBOX version of STE and pushed the STEM engine in the PS2 emulator to its absolute extremes, perhaps one day we could figure out a model splitting and texture *replacement* solution, since it can’t render 2 textures at once.

I noticed how Godzilla seems to have more weight with his movements. Especially with his dash attack

This looks really nice. One thing I will say though is that Kiryu is supposed to be a little bigger than Godzilla.

It's a non-issue imo & I would argue a necessity anyway.
The likes of Destroyah & Legendary Goji are supposed to be way bigger than Orga or G2K, yet they're only slightly bigger than them here.

I’d say they both equal on pretty everything. The new one can change not only skins but make you look like GMK goji with his design mixed with miregojis design. I’d give it a 10/10.👍🏿

Here's a serious question, would you consider releasing the game as is? I know you're hard working on it and we all appreciate it. But could you release the game now and any updates release as DLC's? This would have the added advantage of keeping players interested and coming back to the game. Plus you can get feedback from us upon each release which could aid your development. Plus, im just desperate to play it 😁
@Gojirex I remember you guys stating that the monsters will all have a library of different roars/sounds to pull from during certain animations, rather than just always being the same one sound. So does that mean G2K has more roars/sounds than what we heard in this gameplay?

It's at the very end of the video! It's not finished yet, as the animation data for the "other" (grabbed) monster doesn't transfer from Wii to PS2 unfortunately.

How do we get the demo? I've seen some videos of other RUclipsr's playing this game and they say the instructions on how to get it are on this RUclips channel but they're not. We currently don’t have a projected release date, as this is a fan project and done on spare time. But it will be a year or so at least before a new build will be playable, a lot of what’s holding us back right now is the state of new PCSX2’s texture injector, since we’re trying to swap to modern PCSX2, but the texture injector works really poorly with Save the Earth, so until that’s fixed then we can’t do much about releasing anything new. So instead we’re focusing our efforts on what you see right now: building the bulk of the game up and we’re in full dev mode. We’re working on a ton of new content and overhauls so that the next version will be jam-packed with an incomprehensible amount of cool stuff!
