  • I'm Leonardo and today, we tackle the commonly encountered "iPhone temperature needs to cool down before you can use it" issue on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has suffered significant physical damage. The phone's screen, chassis, and glass back cover are broken, and the power button works intermittently. Despite the damage, it still exhibits a standard charging consumption of 2.3 amps.

We begin by unscrewing the bottom two screws and carefully removing the shattered screen using a Dunlop-brand plastic pick. The battery is then disconnected to prevent any potential short circuits on the motherboard. A new screen is connected to isolate the source of the overheating message. Despite the screen change, the power button remains non-functional.
Further examination involves inspecting damaged components, such as the NFC antenna and chassis, with suspicions leaning towards a damaged thermistor. For those unfamiliar with the function of these components, we recommend our theoretical classes available on our RUclips channel. A new series of these classes, targeted at explaining motherboard components' functions, has been launched in the Community section.
As we continue with a comprehensive visual inspection, all flexes and screws are removed from the board for a thorough analysis. Particular attention is paid to the sides to check for any cracks in the joint of the two boards. We methodically disconnect all connectors one by one, in an attempt to locate the source of the temperature warning. The prime suspects include the NFC antenna connector and the charging module.
Eventually, the issue is traced back to the charging module; once disconnected, the temperature warning ceases. Repairing this severely damaged iPhone 12 Pro Max is no small task. It requires a complete chassis replacement, which can be costly due to the number of components that need changing. Following reassembly, we perform a final check to ensure the phone functions properly.
In conclusion, the temperature warning was primarily due to a faulty charging module. The options to resolve this include replacing the entire module or changing the thermistor. I'm Leonardo, and this repair tutorial aimed to provide a solution for the overheating issue in an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Your feedback is always welcome, and for those interested, the tools used in our day-to-day work can be found in the video description. Until the next video, take care!
