Helpful tip... I’m in AZ and the large o-rings expanded a bit in the heat on the Fed-Ex truck. They didn’t want to seat properly. I put them in a tub of ice water for about 30 seconds and they shrank right down to the perfect size to install.
This is one of the best DIY videos I’ve seen of any kind. Great work on this one and making it very approachable and clear and showing the possible pitfalls. You made this easy. Thanks so much!
I’ve completed the job and one additional thing I ran up against was that the pipes continually hammered when I turned the pump on. I actually took it back apart a couple of times to figure it out and finally left one of the ports pushed open and it worked and the hammering stopped. I don’t know if what I did solved it or if it just needed to work air out if the system, but that would be a great note to add.
Despite some problems during shipment, the installation was very easy. Thank you for the commercial actions taken... service to the top!... thank you again!
Hello, the O-rings are used for the valve top and as well as the center plate so to answer your question no it is not an extra O-ring. Hope this helps!
Hi, I did the rebuild a few months ago, all good, but now the valve housing is leaking. I think the large o ring needs replaced. Where do I get that? Part # etc? Thanks!
Hello, you can find it here on our site with the link provided below. Hope this helps! www.epoolsupply.com/products/caretaker-5-port-valve-base-o-ring-kit-2-large?variant=31560415248469
You must measure the inside diameter of the PVC plumbed into the bottom of the valve. 1 1/2 will measure to 2 inches. 2-inch plumbing will measure to about 2 3/8's or something similar to that. Hope this helps!
I think I messed up and added to much DE to my filter. I saw DE coming out of my popups and now a few of them don't come up at all. Is my caretaker full of DE and getting jammed up?
Hi - just finished doing the parts replacement according to the guidance provided in this video, but am seeing two distinct leaks that appear to be tied to specific piston "zones." Any ideas what might be wrong?
Hello, there could be a few different things wrong, and without physically being there it would be hard to tell or diagnose over the phone. Great tip! : )
My problem is the bottom part of the shell is cracked and leaking. Can you suggest how to seal the crack til the part comes in. I’m kind of desperate.

Hi- where does the second large O ring go? Just an extra?

What about the two washers, I did not see you put new ones in or did you use the old ones
The washers are pre installed above the gears. Held together by the rubber band. I didn’t need to mess with them 🤙

how to tell if I have a 5 Port or 8 Port valve or weather it's 2" or 1-1/2"

Without physically being there we couldn't say for sure. Only way to find out is to open it up and take a look.

One of the old little o-rings fell down into the pipe-- how do I get that out? I don’t see it. Will it cause issues?
Hello, you can either go fishing which will be sort of difficult but it will not cause issues or harm if you cannot get it out. Hope this helps!
