Love how Covid still hasn't completely left us, five years later. It's making it's rounds again in my college, but at least there are fewer deaths now.
It never will. It's gone from pandemic to endemic. The 1918 flu never left, either, it just became less deadly over time through immune response and mutation of the virus.
@iancowan3527 it was the variant that emerged in 2019, not the 19th variant. There are thousands, if not millions, of types of coronaviruses, seven of which are known to infect humans.
The Phillies regained the rights to original Phanatic beginning in the 2022 season after a settlement with Harrison/Erickson, the mascot's copyright owners and the creators.
2:21 Fun fact: Kissinger outlived the pandemic which, at the time this episode originally aired, was only weeks away from trapping John in a white box. Hindsight really puts things into perspective.
I don't think there has been a greater time and a greater need for John Oliver than the upcoming date/dates beyond Jan 20, 2025. Please keep us laughing until the end... 🥲
It was this episode that got me into your show, because of the “Ghen Cô Vy” trend you mentioned. Of course no one remembers it as V-pop has seen worse since then, but thanks for reminding me of why I came here back in 2020.
yeah that whole 2% is noting is a crazy thing to say. the US has (about) 330.000.000 people 2% of that is 6.600.000 so saying, don't worry only 6.6 million (US)-Americans are going to die from it, is insane.
@ChristiaanHW Worse... It disconnected the human element! If how and where the web of life crosses! Which was what I was hinting at with "it seemed to hit harder than that!" ~ we felt ~ feel the loss! You can't and don't feel a number!
Awww simpler times and does john not like philly mascots....gritty (though he is super creepy) and the phanatic (crazy but he can deal the best with philly fans)
Oh, no. This is brand new information to me! I'm so scared, I don't want Coronavirus! This video has only been released a few hours ago, so hopefully I still have time...
there is still no reliable consistent evidence that proves this theory. There is simply no one confirmed theory and infact some evidence hints at multiple origins, similar to what you would see in covergent evolution. Fauci was not unreliable, and at the time it was misinformation because the evidence to indicate it was still there. Even if it turns out to be true if the original basis is not founded on actual information and data, it's still misinformation.
.....low estimates of 7 million dead globaly to date, and 1.2 million in the United States alone, around 10% of people who get it end up with long term complications and ya'll still spout this, and for what?
Notice how when the episode starts he still has hope in his eyes. I remember those days
oh this is the adam driver season, its going to be a wild ride
"you fuckable red wood," 😂
I just want to pay respect. I got up this morning and said “Well, John wasn’t on last night…” and hell yeah! It is indeed a wild ride!!
Just like Adam Driver.
...best comment all day
I can't believe this is gonna be almost 5 years ago, time flies haha
5 years today
The bottle clattering across the studio after 19:30 really sends the point home.
Its a good thing we all took these warning about the coronavirus seriously and we all lived happily ever after
it kills me when we were warned so much ahead of time and still did NOTHING to really be ready for it
If only someone hadn't dismantled the pandemic response infrastructure that was put in place...
2:21 Good news from the future: You only have to wait about three and a half years. 😊
Took much longer than expected though. I mean, the guy was literally hundred years old.
*KISSINGER OUTLIVED THE COVID PANDEMIC*

It's been around for many years! There simply wasn't a strong human effect until variant #19...
@@victoriaeads6126very true, and a solid point!
@iancowan3527 it was the variant that emerged in 2019, not the 19th variant. There are thousands, if not millions, of types of coronaviruses, seven of which are known to infect humans.
@victoriaeads6126 Thank you for the correction! I only knew that 19 was where it made the jump to humans! But COVID was a known virus for many years!
We are almost in the Void era everyone!!
The Phillies regained the rights to original Phanatic beginning in the 2022 season after a settlement with Harrison/Erickson, the mascot's copyright owners and the creators.
Did they get to conical honker again?
12:19 aged like wine
Perfectly pressurized in a submarine, ironically.
So did the words that directly preceeded it😢
🤣🤣
The calm before the storm

19:50 idk how but that throw gives off strong ‘eat shit bob’ energy
People: Glad that’s over.
Next pandemic: See you soon.
@VaxMeNot Can’t argue with that. The world could use a little less people.
@VaxMeNot What. Why?
I just wonder when. With a measure of existential dread.
5 years in March, time flies

Let's re-learn how we were stupid.
"this feels more deadly than it is"
1,200,000 dead later, here we are...
1.2 million dead in the US *alone*. The death toll worldwide is even higher.
I'm always amused at the weird relationship John has with the Philly mascots. Yeah, they ARE weird. Welcome to Philly 😂
I absolutely love that they got Bob Costas to voice over the plea to the Phanatic. 😂😂
For me, the biggest John Oliver talent, and the motive HBO pays him the big money, is being able to read those jokes and stay focused.
This is surreal. It's like having a PTSD flashback, but the original trauma is still here. Thanks John, thanks WBD?
8:40 "Let's touch our faces to a song about not doing that!"
Yay more John Oliver episodes available to drown out the brain goblins!!
Oh No Nevermind it's the ~Covid~ season!!
"air tight" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I kinda wish he'd dropped this season _before_ the election. It probably wouldn't have changed anything, but... 😐
12:13 this aged like wine🤣
2 out of 100,
20 out of 1000,
200 out of 10000,
and it seemed to hit harder than that!
yeah that whole 2% is noting is a crazy thing to say.

Enjoyed the Bob Costas narration at the end.
Who else got COVID ptsd from watching this?
oh wow what an informative episode!!!! hopefully this coronavirus thing won't last for long haha
We all had so much hope back then
"Thanks for being us" - Chris Matthews, 2020
The calm before the storm.
I would die for Claire from the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen
Past John, I have some bad news about COVID but I have excellent news about Henry Kissinger.
One hell of a time capsule!
The "Air Tight" joke... made me think of Titan and I laughed... sorry not sorry XD
Well at least THIS episode won't confuse people into wondering if it's the current season or not.
Poor innocent bats getting the blame
Just imagine all the lives that could've been saved if Fox showed this episode...
The submarine bit was foreshadowing
such a trip watching this while looking down the barrel of a second trump administration.
and by "trip" I mean PTSD flashback.
It's weird to see how much we were spot on with about covid more so than how much we were wrong about in those early days.
10:16 - What the hell? Who puts toilets on the wall?? Or were they shitting in the urinals??
Some toilets are like floating toilets. Attached to the wall but not resting on the floor. Have a Google.
America - get ready to shut down. Glad we made it through 🎸
This episode aired the day before Chris Matthews announced his "retirement"
2:54 there was laughter, and yet…
Awww simpler times and does john not like philly mascots....gritty (though he is super creepy) and the phanatic (crazy but he can deal the best with philly fans)
Oh boy, here we go!
He predicted oceangate😭😭😭😭
14:20 he was hungry for some fast food, that is more important than thousands dieing.
This is so weird to watch. What we knew and thought and all of the confusion and craziness at the beginning before the reality come to play.
Where it all started
That people can look at him, and go “yes that competence I want back in office “ shows how moronic a good portion of Murica is
Ever seen the camera angle where you can see a train wreck coming?
Juvenile and the bilionarie caught me off gaurd, no lie
watching in 2024
Oh, no. This is brand new information to me! I'm so scared, I don't want Coronavirus! This video has only been released a few hours ago, so hopefully I still have time...
Well it definitely explains the increase in toilet paper price this week
@beverlyharrold718 Then it has begun! Oh no, what if this leads to a global pandemic that lasts for years? Nah, that could pro'bly never happen...
ah the before times
2:55 This is way harsher in hindsight, considering how long it lasted as a Trump branded "cure".
Covid...simpler times.
Uh, is this a reupload ?
S7 E3
Wait, how the fuck does this say 20 hours ago??? Am I going crazy??
Saying the virus originating in a Chinese lab was misinformation has aged about as well as saying we have to trust public officials like Fauci😂😂😂😂😂
There's still little reliable evidence for the lab theory, what your source?
there is still no reliable consistent evidence that proves this theory. There is simply no one confirmed theory and infact some evidence hints at multiple origins, similar to what you would see in covergent evolution. The start of mass hysteria and overreactions
Sounds a little judgy.
🙄
You misspelled “7 million deaths.” Must be fucking nice to be privileged enough to never have someone you love be one of those dead.
.....low estimates of 7 million dead globaly to date, and 1.2 million in the United States alone, around 10% of people who get it end up with long term complications and ya'll still spout this, and for what?
God Bless Alex Jones
Oh, remember the good Trump years so much that you voted to put him in place again.
Some people never learn 🤦🏻♀️ 😂
